Let's Talk About the Ending of '28 Years Later'
The sequel is coming in January, so there's a lot to break down in Danny Boyle's latest zombie film. One of the few flaws in Danny Boyle's new film, 28 Years Later, is that it ends a chapter, not a full story. That's because this new zombie tale is the first film of a proposed trilogy, one that has its second film coming in January of 2026. With at least one sequel guaranteed, Boyle and his writer, Alex Garland, can safely leave several threads lingering, offering hints of what's to come. Let's break it down with full spoilers. One of the biggest shocks in 28 Years Later is its manic ending. After we watch Spike take the surprise baby back to his home, he goes back to the mainland to live his own life. This, of course, is largely due to a distrust of his father, Jamie, who hit him in the past. All of this feels on brand for the movie, but then Jack O'Connell shows up. O'Connell, best known from films like Sinners and Unbroken, leads some kind of weird, almost Clockwork Orange group of people dressed in colorful jumpsuits, who proceed to gleefully dispatch a group of zombies who are chasing Spike. Spike welcomes the help but we have to question what the deal is. Especially when it's revealed that the character's name is Jimmy. Yes, the same Jimmy from the beginning of the film, whose father was a priest, gave him a special cross, and watched his mother and several childhood friends being eaten alive. What does that do to a person? And what happened to make that scared, lonely child into this flashy, charismatic presence? We don't know for certain but there are clues throughout the movie. For example, in the first third of the movie, Spike and Jamie enter a house and see a man hanging by his feet, waiting to be infected. In that man's chest, though not acknowledged, we can see the letters 'I-M-M-Y.' We can't see the 'J,' but we assume it's there. Jimmy carved his name into this man, for whatever reason. Later, when Spike is traveling with his mom Isla, the name Jimmy is also painted on the side of a shed, like some sort of post-apocalyptic graffiti. From these clues, we can begin to discern that Jimmy and his group are not nice people. They're evil, they're savage, and they are brash. They are certainly not people Spike can trust, though he has to in that moment. At the end of the film we're also left wondering what Jamie, feeling so rejected by his son, will do to get him back. Will Jamie go after Spike? Does he even have that ability? And how will the city deal with the fact that an infected man and woman made a child that isn't infected? That's the kind of revelation that can't be ignored. Plus, who does that child grow up to be? Is her DNA from the parents before or after the infection? There's also the very important piece of information that the sequel is called 'The Bone Temple.' That certainly seems like a reference to Ralph Fiennes' character, Dr. Kelson, and the structures he's erected. Is the movie just about him? Is there another temple of bones? How will that tie into the Spike and Jimmy story? We also know that Cillian Murphy's character Jim, last seen in the original 2002 film, plays a role. How the heck does that work? Certainly, there's lots to ponder and, thankfully, we won't have to wait long to get answers. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, is scheduled for release on January 16, 2026.

A Huge Update On ‘The Pitt' Season 2's Unusual Release Date On HBO Max
The Pitt The Pitt is on course to land a bunch of Emmys, most likely, after its stellar run on Max (soon to be HBO Max). Now, WB wants to take advantage of this lightning in a bottle, and use it to create an entire thunderstorm on its service with rapid-fire, lengthy seasons like broadcast TV of old (I am told broadcast TV still exists). We have a big update about The Pitt season 2 from Max itself. They released a 'filming has begun' video on social media that confirms season 2 is not just written, it's already in motion. And yes, it's confirmed that The Pitt season 2's release date will be in January of 2026, one year after the January 9, 2025 release of the stunning 15-episode season 1. Stunning because the show was good, but also stunning because of the fact it was 15 episodes. And it's likely that season 2 will match that as it continues its 'single shift' concept, channeling 24 and Jack Bauer from years past. We know more than just the date, and here's a roundup of the information that we have about season 2: The Pitt More information will emerge in time, but it's crazy to think that with this announcement, we are already seven months away from a new season of the show. I cannot think of a single streaming show that produces 15, 45+ minute episodes once a year. Even ones that manage yearly releases are things like six-episode seasons of Slow Horses or shorter, fewer episodes like The Bear or Only Murders in the Building. The Pitt is something special, and hopefully, season 2 will retain season 1's quality. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Soda and energy drinks to be BANNED for certain Americans in first-of-its-kind move
Soda and energy drinks will soon be off-limits to certain Americans, as officials are clamping down on what people can buy with food stamps. US Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced low-income Nebraska residents buying food under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP will not be allowed to purchase soft drinks like soda and fruit juices or energy drinks in a new pilot program. The ban, which is the first of its kind in the US, will become effective starting January 1, 2026 and last for at least two years. Additional details about the ban have yet to be revealed by state officials, but Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen said in a statement: 'There's absolutely zero reason for taxpayers to be subsidizing purchases of soda and energy drinks. 'SNAP is about helping families in need get healthy food into their diets, but there's nothing nutritious about the junk we're removing with today's waiver.' Serving nearly 42 million Americans, SNAP helps low-income families purchase fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, breads and cereals, snacks and plants. It is run by the USDA and administered through individual states. In general, benefits are available to people with an income at or below about $33,500 a year for three people in a household. Over the past two decades, lawmakers in several states have proposed halting SNAP payments for soda, chips, ice cream and 'luxury meats' like steak, as well as bottled water and decorated birthday cakes. However, despite multiple waivers being submitted, no other presidential administration, including President Donald Trump's first, has approved them in the past. In a letter addressed to Secretary Rollins, Pillen wrote: 'According to United States Department of Agriculture, the most common purchase with SNAP is soft drinks or soda. According to the USDA website, food stamps users spend over $600million on sweetened beverages including soft drinks and energy drinks. 'Also of concern are energy drinks, which contain caffeine or other similar compounds, sweeteners... Studies indicate the negative effects of caffeine are elevated in children and youth, including increases in stress, anxiety, agitation, sleep disturbance, and high blood pressure, often leading to difficulties in learning and academic performance.' A 2024 scientific review published in the journal Public Health by British researchers found that energy drinks can raise the risk of physical and mental health problems among children. Kids who consume the beverages, which can contain more caffeine than a cup of coffee, are more likely to be overweight and develop heart problems. They also face a higher chance of getting mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression and suicide attempts. Pillen's letter continued: 'Nebraska believes promoting nutritious foods will improve health and reduce the prevalence of chronic disease. 'Ensuring Nebraska children have the advantage of a healthy diet supports brain development and prepares them for success throughout their lives. 'To improve the health of families in Nebraska, on behalf of the State, I wish to notify you of Nebraska's intent to pursue a SNAP Waiver from the US Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service that removes soda and energy drinks from SNAP allowable purchases.' Since Nebraska's decision, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Indiana, Iowa and West Virginia have also submitted requests for waivers banning certain foods and drinks or, in some cases, expanding access to hot foods for participants, according to the USDA. The ban comes as Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr continues to push for restricting junk food from the $100billion-a-year federal SNAP program since his nomination. The leader of the Make America Healthy Again movement has repeatedly called soda 'poison' and claimed it can cause damage to human health - a notion also voiced by Pillen. Kennedy has also previously suggested Americans who eat doughnuts, guzzle sodas or smoke should not be provided with free healthcare. 'If you're smoking three packs of cigarettes a day, should you expect society to pay when you get sick?,' he told CBS. The nation's top health official noted it is the American people's choice to 'eat doughnuts all day' and he would not to take it away. However, he went on to say doughnut and soda lovers cannot expect 'society to care for them' since there is possibility for them to get 'very sick'. His claims have long put him at odds with President Trump as the latter is known to enjoy multiple sodas per day, albeit the sugar-free versions. Shortly after being sworn-in for the second time, President Trump also re-installed a bright red button on his desk in the Oval Office to notify an aide that the commander-in-chief wants a fresh Diet Coke. The 78-year-old reportedly drinks multiple cans of Diet Coke a day and is known to indulge in an occasional burger and fries for his meals. The health official is yet to make a comment on Nebraska's newly announced ban.
