‘Caught Him Red-Handed': Woman Alleges Rapido Driver Tried Stealing From Her Bag

Last Updated: Bengaluru woman catches Rapido driver trying to open her handbag's front zipper and take money, all while without knowing she was watching. A video from Bengaluru is going viral after a woman caught a Rapido auto driver allegedly trying to steal from her handbag. The woman, identified as model and designer Janhavi Kshatriyas, shared the incident that took place during her ride from Marathahalli to JP Nagar on the evening of June 11. According to Janhavi, during the ride, she received a call from her mother asking her to pick up some coffee powder. She asked the driver to stop briefly near a shop. When she returned, she claimed she saw the driver attempting to open her handbag and take money, unaware that she was watching the entire act. Taking to Instagram, the woman wrote, 'What started as a normal ride quickly turned into a disturbing experience and nightmare. The driver was staring at me repeatedly through the rearview mirror in an uncomfortable, almost creepy way. I immediately informed my friend via Snapchat and mentioned that my phone battery was low. I even requested the driver to let me pay before my phone died, which he allowed. Later, he offered to charge my phone and took it in his hand, which I now regret." 'Just 1 km before my home, my mom called and asked me to get coffee powder. I asked the driver to stop, crossed the road and went to the shop. They didn't have it, so I came out quickly, only to witness the most shocking part: I caught the driver red-handed trying to open the front zip of my handbag. My money was stuck in the zip, and he was struggling to take it out. He didn't realise I was standing right behind him, watching everything," Janhavi Kshatriyas explained. She added, 'When I confronted him, he nervously claimed he was 'trying to move the bag behind to keep it safe' and even tried to blame a random girl nearby for trying to steal it, despite the fact that I saw him with my own eyes. I even asked the girl to confirm and explained everything to her in public." The woman noted down the auto's registration number and promptly filed a complaint with Rapido. In her statement, she emphasised that the issue wasn't just about attempted theft, it was about safety, trust and basic respect. She expressed how unsettling it was to think about what could have happened had she not returned at that exact moment. Urging Rapido to take strict action against the driver, she also called for tighter background checks and monitoring of drivers. Her message to others was clear: stay alert, especially when travelling alone or late at night. Many in the comments section praised the model for speaking up and sharing her experience. They felt she did the right thing by raising awareness and helping others stay alert during such situations. Reacting to the post, a user wrote, 'I appreciate her guts to talk so boldly in front of everyone. 'If she had spoken Hindi, this would have turned out Kannadiga vs North Indian issue," a comment read. One more added, 'I think this is one of the best videos which addressed a serious issue in a proper manner." After her post gained traction online, Rapido issued an apology and acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. The company stated that this kind of behaviour does not reflect their standards or values. Reiterating their commitment to passenger safety, Rapido emphasised that they have a strict zero-tolerance policy for misconduct. They assured the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and requested time to complete the process, promising appropriate action once the inquiry is concluded. Ambat Shoukin Movie Review: Full marks for effort, but only half for the execution

Three aimless and jobless friends, Lalit, Varun and Reddy, finally decide to bring their life on track after a moral lecture by Varun. They start a cafe and run it honestly. Then, one evening, Janhavi walks into their cafe, and eventually into their lives as all three fall for the same girl. Of course the story has a twist in which things aren't as they appear to be. A few photos, Janhavi's purpose and another young boy's story shake the trio. But are these things enough to give them a new purpose in life? The name Ambat Shoukin may raise a few eyebrows but that's the purpose of the title. The film through the journey of three friends who unknowingly fall into a trap online and decide to quash a cyber crime syndicate. Helmed by Nikhil Wairagar , with dialogues and screenplay by Akshay Tanksale and Amit Bendre, the film has its heart in the right place. It aims to address the issue of sextortion with a novel approach. But the way Ambat Shoukin unravels is amateur. The leads being at the right place at the right time, new characters, otherwise nowhere in the plot, conveniently entering it to untie a knot; these are just a couple of issues with the film. The makers dedicate a lot more time to comedy than to the actual issue, ultimately resulting in a slow first half and a hurried second half. While Akshay Tanksale and Kiran Gaikwad stand out, the other actors are either loud, casual or unpolished. Ambat Shoukin comes across as a film made by friends, with friends and for their friends. It deserves full marks for the effort and passion, but half of that for its execution. Only if you fancy a very casual watch with friends, go for this one.
