Vehicle plunges off third-floor parking deck in Old Klang Road; car wash worker seriously hurt

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — A car wash worker was seriously injured after the vehicle he was driving crashed through a wall and plunged from the third floor of a service apartment parking area at Jalan Klang Lama yesterday evening. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident, which occurred at 5.38pm, involved a Toyota Camry driven by a 23-year-old Afghan man. Initial investigations revealed the worker lost control of the vehicle while attempting to park it after washing. He is believed to have accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the car to smash through the wall and fall to the ground, he said when contacted by Bernama. The car landed on two other vehicles — a Proton Iriz and a Perodua Myvi, parked at the ground level of the building. Fortunately, no one was inside those vehicles at the time. The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to the red zone of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for emergency treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama

Body of newborn baby found floating in river behind restaurant on Jalan Klang Lama

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 — The body of a baby was found floating in a river behind a restaurant on Jalan Klang Lama here yesterday. The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre received a report regarding the incident at around 3pm via a MERS999 emergency call. 'Following that, eight personnel from the Seputeh fire and rescue station, along with a fire engine, were rushed to the scene. 'The firemen retrieved the baby's body and handed it over to police for further action,' according to a statement from the Kuala Lumpur JPBM. Meanwhile, Brickfields district police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said preliminary investigations revealed that a witness at the scene found what appeared to be a body stuck on rocks in the river before alerting the police at 2.05pm. 'Investigations found that the body was that of a baby boy, still with the umbilical cord attached. A post-mortem will be conducted at 1pm tomorrow at the Forensic Department of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre,' he said in a statement. He said the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth by secretly disposing of the body. — Bernama
