Jammu: Omar reviews delivery of essential services
Chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting at the civil secretariat here to review the delivery of essential services and supplies and the steps taken by the administration during the current summer season in Jammu division. During the meeting, Jammu divisional commissioner Ramesh Kumar briefed the CM and gave presentation on the functioning of different departments and their action plan for summer preparedness. It was informed that JPDCL has maintained sufficient buffer stock of transformers and also devised time-slots for power curtailment to prevent overload on grid stations. The functioning of Jal Shakti and Jammu municipal corporation was also discussed with regard to adequate supply of water tankers, water sprinklers, anti smog guns and proper maintenance of water coolers to provide relief to the citizens. Taking cognisance of the water scarcity issues in some newly populated areas, the CM directed Jammu MC commissioner and Jal Shakti department to provide relief to the residents immediately. He further directed for expediting the pace of work on water supply schemes nearing completion to alleviate such issues. The CM further reviewed the forest fire response mechanism and readiness of fire & emergency services to tackle any such situation. The CM was also apprised of preparedness of irrigation and flood control with regard to de-silting of irrigation canals and flood mitigation plan. Omar also took stock of the broad arrangements put in place for forthcoming Muharram and Amarnath Yatra. The divisional commissioner apprised the CM about the routes decided for Muharram along with other elaborate arrangements pertaining to power, water supply, health and other essential services for the people participating in Muharram processions across the division. He also apprised the CM on the ongoing preparations for Amarnath Yatra with detailed arrangements right from Lakhanpur- the gateway to Jammu Kashmir- to Lambar in Banihal, Ramban.

Telangana govt urges Centre to stall Banakacharla project proposed by AP govt
Hyderabad/ New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister Capt. N Uttam Kumar Reddy today urged the Union government to stall the Godavari-Banakacharla Project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government, which they said is against natural justice and the interests of Telangana. The CM reiterated to Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil that they will not compromise on the interests of Telangana under any circumstances and will try to resolve the issue amicably through all platforms. The CM made it clear to the Union Minister that if the Centre's response was not favorable, the state government will approach the Supreme Court. Revanth and Uttam, who who met Jal Shakti Minister Patil in New Delhi, appealed to him to reject the pre-feasibility report (PFR) of the project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government and to "ensure that justice and truth prevail". Besides the Union Minister, they also met Secretary of the Union ministry Debashree Mukherjee and other senior officials at Shramshakti Bhavan in the national capital today. Briefing the Jal Shakti Minister, the Chief Minister and his colleague Minister said that the Banakacharla project was against the interests of Telangana state. They explained how the Andhra Pradesh government was taking up the project in contravention of the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal-1980 (GWDT) and the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. The Chief Minister brought to the attention of the Union Minister the various concerns raised by the people and farmers of Telangana over the way the Union Finance Ministry and the Environment Ministry are handling the Banakacharla project approvals. The CM informed CR Patil that AP claimed that it proposed the Banakacharla project based on flood waters of Godavari, but the truth is that there is no mention of flood waters or surplus waters in the GWDT-1980. According to the 2014 AP Reorganization Act, if a new project is to be built in any state, it must first be discussed and approved by the Godavari River Management Board, Central Water Commission (CWC) and the Apex Council headed by the Jal Shakti Minister and the Chief Ministers of the two states, CM Revanth Reddy pointed out. "Andhra Pradesh violated all these important issues and was proceeding with efforts to construct the project," he complained. The AP government's claim that it undertook the project based on flood waters was strongly objectionable because there was no rule-basis for such an argument, the CM added. Taking serious note of all these issues, Chief Minister Revanth and Minister Uttam appealed to the Union minister to immediately intervene in this matter and stop all works being undertaken as part of the Banakacharla project. Further, the CM and irrigation minister informed CR Patil that AP has undertaken Purushothapatnam, Venkatanagaram, Pattiseema and Chintalapudi lift irrigation projects under Polavaram by using flood waters without obtaining permission from the Technical Advisory Board in the CWC. CM Revanth Reddy explained to Union minister Patil about the change of the Polavaram designs as per the GDWT -1980 regulations and works being carried out in violation of the environmental clearances despite objections being raised. The CM requested the Union Minister that the Central government should pay attention to ensuring that no violation of regulations takes place while constructing the Polavaram national project. The CM also told CR Patil that the Telangana government was ready for talks to discuss lifting of water to Penna basin by linking Icchampally–Nagarjuna Sagar, which will be funded by the Centre, instead of Polavaram–Banakacharla, if Andhra Pradesh really believes there is any flood water in river Godavari. The CM also pleaded with the Union Minister to ensure that the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-2 verdict is issued soon. UNI KNR RN

Centre to call Telangana, Andhra CMs' meet on Godavari-Banakacherla project: Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil
HYDERABAD: Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil assured a Telangana delegation led by CM A Revanth Reddy that a meeting of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Ministers would soon be held to discuss the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla project. The Union Minister assured that justice would be done to Telangana irrigation projects. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, called on CR Patil in Delhi on Thursday and had a one-hour detailed discussion over the AP's G-B project. Speaking to reporters later, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the State government would also take a legal recourse against the AP's project, if necessary. Uttam Kumar contended that the Centre was according permissions only to AP projects, whereas several projects of Telangana were pending. He sought funds from the Centre for Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation and other projects of Telangana.

Telangana CM and Irrigation Minister seek Centre's intervention in stalling Godavari-Banakacharla project works by Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy sought the intervention of the Central Government and Jal Shakti Ministry in stalling the Godavari-Banakacharla project — proposed by Andhra Pradesh — which is detrimental to the interests of Telangana. They requested the Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to reject the Pre Feasibility Report submitted by the Andhra Pradesh Government on Godavari-Banakacharla project as it is against the interests of Telangana. The latter was committed to raise the issue in all available platforms for an amicable resolution, they told Mr. Patil informing that the State would not desist to approach the Supreme Court if the Centre did not respond positively to its request. The Chief Minister and Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy called on the Jal Shakti Minister on Thursday (June 19, 2025) and explained him about the adverse impact of the proposed project. They informed the Minister that Andhra Pradesh proposed the project in violation of the order of Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal (GWDT) 1980 and A.P. Reorganisation Act 2014. People of Telangana, especially farmers, were concerned about the manner in which the Union Finance and Environment Ministries behaved in respect of the Godavari-Banakacharla project, they said in the more than one hour meeting. Andhra Pradesh claimed that Banakacharla project was taken up on the flood waters of Godavari while the GWDT-1980 had ruled out scope for surplus and flood waters. The Reorganisation Act mandated that either of the two States should inform about proposed irrigation projects to the river management board, central water commission (CWC) and the Apex Council headed by the Jal Shakti Minister with Chief Ministers of the two States as members. The neighbouring State, however, set aside the norms and was going ahead with the project works. The Chief Minister and the Irrigation Minister took strong objection to claims of the neighbouring State, which ignored the prevailing norms and was claiming that the project was based on the flood waters. Andhra Pradesh was going ahead with Purushottapatnam, Venkatanagaram, Pattiseema, Chintalpudi and other lift irrigation projects under Polavaram without obtaining any clearances from the Technical Advisory Committee under the CWC. Though the Telangana government had raised several objections relating to change in the Polavaram design and the works without obtaining environmental clearances, the neighbouring State did not stop the works. Reminding that Polavaram was a national project, they urged Mr. Patil to intervene and ensure that Andhra Pradesh did not violate the set procedures. They told the Minister that if the neighbouring State was firm on flood waters in Godavari river, it could utilise the central funds for Inchampally-Nagarjunasagar link project for diversion of water to Penna basin. 'We are ready for discussion in this regard,' they said. Ensure speedy pronouncement of KWDT-II verdict Mr. Revanth Reddy and Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy requested the Union Minister to ensure that Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal – II delivers its verdict at the earliest and asserted that the government would not compromise on the interests of Telangana under any circumstances.

Telangana to convene all-party meeting on June 18 over controversial Godavari-Banakacherla project
HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has announced a crucial meeting to be held on June 18, 2025 at the Secretariat, inviting all Members of Parliament (both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) to discuss the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla (G-B) project put forward by the Andhra Pradesh government. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will attend the meeting. Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy, who also serves as the BJP state president, and Bandi Sanjay Kumar have also been extended invitations to contribute their views. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said Andhra Pradesh had submitted its proposal for the G-B project to the Ministries of Jal Shakti and Finance. 'According to a preliminary study, the project appears to violate both the Godavari Water Dispute Tribunal (GWDT) award of 1980 and the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act (APRA), 2014. The project, if implemented, would adversely impact the water rights of Telangana,' he reiterated. The Minister further recalled that he had written to the Union Ministers of Finance and Jal Shakti on January 22, 2025, outlining Telangana's objections. Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, in his response dated May 28, 2025, assured that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the G-B link scheme had not yet been submitted to the Central government. He added that once received, the project would be reviewed in accordance with existing tribunal awards, inter-state agreements, and APRA provisions.
