Ganja worth Rs 85 lakh seized, 2 held
Prayagraj: Sleuths of the Special Task Force (Prayagraj unit) on Sunday arrested two members of an interstate drug peddling gang and seized 231 kg of ganja worth Rs 85 lakh.
The arrest was made near Kesar Vatia on the Kanpur-Jhansi highway while the duo was planning to deliver a drug consignment to Bijnore.
Police have also seized a DCM vehicle, one mobile and Rs 330 cash from their possession.
Those arrested were Jai Prakash Paswan and Rahul Kumar of Darbhanga (Bihar) and Bijnore (UP) respectively. They were booked under sections 8/20/29 of the NDPS Act.
A team of STF, acting upon specific inputs that members of the gang were smuggling illegal ganja from Raipur (Chhattisgarh) to Bijnore (UP), intercepted a DCM vehicle and found the drugs hidden inside sacks of fish grains.
The gang used to smuggle drugs from Chhattisgarh to UP towns for hefty profits, police said adding that search is on for Pawan Pandey of Pratapgarh and Yusuf Ansari of Bareilly, who were the masterminds of the gang.
