Lewiston Town Board approves new concept plan for President's Park development

The controversial President's Park apartments project in Lewiston has moved another step forward. The Lewiston Town Board voted 3-1 last week to accept the concept plans for the complex on Washington Drive, moving it further in the approval process. Joe Jacoby, the lone councilman present voting against it, said he felt this was an oversized development that did not fit in with the neighborhood. 'In my opinion, it's an improper project for our community,' Jacoby said. Councilwoman Sarah Waechter, who was absent, sent a message to the board saying she does not support the project either. 'I am comfortable with what's going to occur from here on out,' said Town Supervisor Steve Broderick, noting the development will be further scrutinized as it goes further along. 'This is just to push the project forward, to get the information that we need to have to make the decision.' Project developers 5/4 Development would now have to provide a more detailed site plan to the town, which in turn needs approval from the town board and town planning board. There also needs to be traffic and sewer studies done on the development's potential impact. Town Engineer Robert Lannon said the sewer study would include a downstream capacity analysis, measuring the capacity of the conveyance system taking wastewater from the apartments to the town's water pollution control center. The existing concept relies on downstream capacity and gravity, though if that does not work a pumping station may be considered. That study can take up to six months to complete, given it needs to be tested during both good and bad weather events. Water Pollution Control Center Administrator Jeffrey Ritter said the plant could handle the estimated 60,000 additional daily gallons of wastewater the complex would produce. There has not been an official traffic study done for the area, as the Department of Transportation had said during coordinated environmental reviews that the additional traffic would not be a concern. The town board also approved a negative SEQR declaration stating this project would have no significant environmental impact. 5/4 Development first got town approval to build apartments on Washington Drive in 2022, when the project size was 168 units. Developers Joe and Dave Giusiana later asked the town for and received approval for, an increase of site density to 210 units, which they argued was needed for the $24 million project to make financial sense. The revised concept plan accounting for the unit increase had to go through the town approval process because it was considered a different project than what was initially proposed. The developers said they could realistically start construction. President's Park has faced plenty of opposition from the 3F Club, whose Swann Road they hunt on neighbors the site where these apartments would be. State laws prevent firearm discharges within 500 feet of a residential building, meaning that with the buildings located 250 feet from the property line, the hunters would not be able to use all their land. Other residents have complained about the development bringing increased traffic to Route 18, concerns that the wastewater treatment facility could not handle the additional loads coming from it and that despite the developers saying these would be market-rate units, they would end up becoming subsidized housing.

Dustin Jacoby wants big name after UFC on ESPN 68 KO: 'I'm no stepping stone'

Dustin Jacoby wants big name after UFC on ESPN 68 KO: 'I'm no stepping stone' UFC veteran Dustin Jacoby thinks it's time to get a step up in competition. Show Caption Hide Caption Dustin Jacoby hoping for bigger names after first-round knockout win UFC on ESPN 68 winner Dustin Jacoby talks to MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight after his first-round knockout of Bruno Lopes in Las Vegas. LAS VEGAS — A big name: That's what Dustin Jacoby wants for his next trip to the octagon. The 37-year-old UFC light heavyweight veteran thinks he's deserving of such opportunity following his latest win. Jacoby (21-9-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC) defeated Bruno Lopes (14-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) on the main card of UFC on ESPN 68 this past Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It was his second finish of a Brazilian prospect since his last defeat – a KO loss to former UFC title challenger Dominick Reyes in June 2024. "I'm no stepping stone," Jacoby told reporters at the UFC on ESPN 68 post-fight press conference. "I got into the top 15, and I earned my way to the top 15, and I held it for a little bit. But I had a lot of wind taken out of my sails when I had that decision loss to Khalil Rountree. "I'll say it again, and I've said it before: It's no knock on Khalil Roundtree. The guy is a great warrior and a great fighter, but that says a lot about me. If you go back and look at that fight, after the fight was fought, I was like -650 on DraftKings to win that fight and I was declared the loser. That one stung. It took a lot of momentum (away from me)." Prior to Saturday's win, Jacoby had put away Vitor Petrino in brutal fashion this past December in front of 18,000 fans at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. He didn't expect to be fighting at the UFC Apex following that win, but saw it as an opportunity to make a statement and have a standout performance. "I felt like I got demoted after a big knockout in a packed house, but at the same time, perspective is everything, man," Jacoby said. "I've had a lot of success here at the UFC Apex. On this card, I thought it was a great opportunity to go out there and steal the show, and that's exactly what I told myself in the back: 'This is your show. This is your time. Go steal it.' I felt like the Apex needed a fighter like me and a fight like that – excitement. I was prepared to bring it." Despite the finish, Jacoby missed out on one of the four post-fight bonus awards.

Dustin Jacoby vs. Bruno Lopes prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 68

Dustin Jacoby vs. Bruno Lopes prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 68 Dustin Jacoby has significanly more experience under the UFC lights than Bruno Lopes. Will that come into play in their UFC on ESPN 68 main card bout? Dustin Jacoby and Bruno Lopes meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ESPN 68 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 3-1 UFC main cards, 2025: 46-39-1 Dustin Jacoby vs. Bruno Lopes UFC on ESPN 68 preview Jacoby (20-9-1 MMA, 8-6-1 UFC) will look to keep the momentum rolling after a Performance of the Night knockout of Vitor Petrino in December. The result snapped a two-fight skid. Although he's gone 3-4 over his last seven, each victory was a bonus-earning finish. ... Lopes (14-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) enters his second UFC bout against an octagon veteran. In his debut in January, Lopes won a unanimous decision over Magomed Gadzhiyasulov. The Dana White's Contender Series veteran is currently on a three-fight winning streak. Dustin Jacoby vs. Bruno Lopes UFC on ESPN 68 expert pick, prediction Filling out the main card is a light heavyweight bout between Jacoby and Lopes. Although Lopes has a solid record on paper, the opponent and the setting are an undeniable (and undeserved) step down for Jacoby. However, if Jacoby can avoid the trap-fight sensibilities at hand, I think he should roll in this spot. The smaller octagon of the Apex will likely assist Lopes' cage-clinching efforts, but I'm not sure he has the speed, skill, or power to stop a guy like Jacoby. Aside from shoring up his takedown defense and getup abilities, Jacoby has the gas tank and composure to rally on tiring, lesser-experienced foes. I'll take Jacoby to pick up the proverbial pack once Lopes drops it, forcing a stoppage via strikes in Round 2. Dustin Jacoby vs. Bruno Lopes UFC on ESPN 68 odds The oddsmakers and the public favor the American fighter, listing Jacoby -210 and Lopes +168 via FanDuel. Dustin Jacoby vs. Bruno Lopes UFC on ESPN 68 start time, how to watch Jacoby and Lopes are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 10:40 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts on ESPN+.

Lydia Jacoby on break from swimming competition with eyes still on 2028 Olympics

Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Lydia Jacoby will not swim at next week's Toyota U.S. Championships as she extends a break since last June's Olympic Trials. 'I've been taking a break from competition to focus on myself and life outside the pool — a reset that's felt much needed,' was posted on Jacoby's social media. 'That said, this is not me stepping away from the sport for good — and definitely not from my Olympic dreams. 2028 is still very much on my mind.' In 2021, Jacoby became the first Olympic swimmer from Alaska, then won the 100m breaststroke at the Tokyo Games at age 17. She placed third in the 100m breast at last June's Olympic Trials, missing the team for Paris by 27 hundredths of a second. Jacoby then announced last winter that she was accepted to study abroad in Madrid for the spring 2025 semester. She swam for the University of Texas in 2022-23 and 2023-24. The U.S. Championships are June 3-7, live nightly on Peacock at 7 ET. Nick Zaccardi,

10 years later: Deadly shooting of Windsor cyclist John Jacoby still not solved

DENVER (KDVR) — After 10 years with still no answers. the FBI is searching for any information that could lead to solving the 2015 deadly shooting of a Windsor cyclist. On May 18, 2015, John Jacoby, a 47-year-old park caretaker for the city of Windsor and employee at King Soopers, was riding his bicycle on Weld County Road 15 about two miles north of Windsor's Main Street when he was shot twice by an unknown person at around 10:15 a.m., according to the FBI. Jacoby died at the scene. 3 pedestrians killed in separate Denver crashes Sunday morning: police 'He was a good kid. He didn't deserve this,' a close family friend said after his death. 'It's just something that shouldn't have happened because he never hurt a soul.' Jacoby's death rocked the town of Windsor, as FOX31's reporting from the time showed it was the first homicide in the city in eight years. 'In a town that is very calm, something like this is unusual and certainly we're going to take every step we can to get to the bottom of it and find out exactly what happened,' a Windsor police lieutenant said back in 2015. But 10 years later, no one has been arrested or charged. Investigators do believe the shooting of Jacoby was connected to another shooting that happened less than a month prior on April 22, 2015, in Fort Collins. In that shooting, two rounds were fired at a woman driving around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Harmony Road and the southbound Interstate 25 on-ramp. 2 dead after small plane crash near Broomfield: North Metro Fire Rescue The woman survived after being shot in the neck, according to the FBI. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of the person or people responsible for Jacoby's death.
