Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd reveals 'shock' over soap awards snub as he reflects on his reaction during ceremony
Coronation Street star Jack P. Shepherd was left gobsmacked after being snubbed at this year's British Soap Awards – and his stunned reaction said it all. The 37-year-old, who has played David Platt since he was 12, had high hopes of adding a third gong to his shelf during Saturday night's star-studded event. But despite being one of the longest-serving and most recognisable faces on the cobbles, Jack lost out to Patsy Palmer and her Eastender's character Bianca Jackson. While he congratulated the winner, Jack couldn't help but reveal how 'shocked' he was and felt the award should have been his, as he declared the was 'fuming'. Speaking on his podcast On The Sofa with co-stars Ben Price and Colson Smith, the star admitted he couldn't hide his reaction when the camera panned on him. As she took to the stage to accept the gong, Patsy got rather sidetracked, as she deliver an ode to vaginas, that had the audience breaking down into laughter. She made the X-rated remarks in reference to EastEnders' live 40th anniversary special, which saw Bianca having to help sister Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) give birth after they became trapped in the Queen Vic with cousin Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) following the explosion. The scene had viewers cracking up as Bianca and Lauren argued over who had to help, with both reluctant to get up close and personal with the birth. It culminated with Bianca taking a huge glug from a bottle of brandy for some liquid courage, before declaring the now-iconic line: 'It's only a noony Lauren!' Referencing the hilarious moment, Patsy began her speech: 'Listen I haven't prepared a speech, because I really thought Jack was gonna win. 'To be able to funny in all what of we've seen tonight is nothing short of miracle really. I'd like to thank Shona McGarty for leaving, because if she hadn't have left I wouldn't have come back. 'I wasn't expecting that and I'm so glad I did because then I stayed for the 40th and that was really where we celebrated the women's vagina!' However, Patsy didn't stop there, valiantly continuing on to add: 'I think vaginas have always been funny.' She then changed tone to express her thanks to show and even choked back her tears, as she gushed: 'All jokes aside, coming back to EastEnders after quite some time has been the most amazing experience for me and I'm so grateful. Beyond grateful. 'And I'm not going to cry, so I'm going to go, because it is a comedy award. But you really have no idea what a gift it's been for me to come back.' Coronation Street legend Jack P Shepherd has opened up about his feelings after he missed out on a gong at the British Soap Awards as he admitted "it was a shock" Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd has expressed his "shock" at missing out on a British Soap Award last weekend (Saturday, May 31). The actor, who has played David Platt since he was just 12 years old in 2000, is a key part of the Platt family and recently celebrated his 25th anniversary on the show. Jack's character has had several near-death experiences on Corrie, including a terrifying incident in 2003 when Richard Hillman attempted to kill the Platt family by driving them into a canal. Despite these dramatic moments, Jack was nominated for Best Comedy Performance at this year's British Soap Awards, alongside Patsy Palmer (EastEnders), Nicola Wheeler (Emmerdale) and Nicole Barber-Lane (Hollyoaks). Having previously won Villain of the Year in 2008 and Best Actor in 2018, Jack was hoping to add a third award to his collection, reports Leicestershire Live. In response to his On The Sofa co-star, Colson Smith, Jack joked: "I've been trying for years to get a nod for comedy because I've never been nominated for it before." Reflecting on his disappointment at not winning, he admitted: "It was a shock. "If you watched it the other night, you will notice that my reaction is genuine. And I'm completely blown away that I didn't win." In an earlier episode of the show, Jack had admitted he would have been especially "devastated" if he had lost out on the award to Patsy Palmer. Despite the potential disappointment, the 37 year old emphasised that there was never any "hatred or rivalry" when watching stars from rival soaps take to the stage for their prizes. Corrie's Jack P. Shepherd certainly didn't hide his shock during the recent ceremony, as Coronation Street actors left with little to toast, compared to EastEnders which dominated the evening by sweeping up seven awards. Only David Neilson managed to snag a trophy for the Weatherfield regulars at the eventful night.

The couple's wedding is set for next month and Hanni shared a sweet tribute to her husband on Thursday as she counts down the days to the nuptials. There's rumours – and I'm sniffing that I might be in the periphery." He then joked: "With my Yorkshire accent. I think I'm in it, talking Yorkshire and they're like: 'Where are you from? Are you from Bradford?'" Jack's soap tease might be the news some viewers have been wanting for, as one posted on X: "corrie and emmerdale crossover episode. I need david platt & ross barton , charity & tracy , mandy & carla oh the possibilities." The "mash-up" of two of the nation's most beloved soaps is set to air on ITV next year and will be the first of its kind in British soap history.
