Genelia D'Souza REACTS To Rumours Of 'Accidentally' Getting Married To John Abraham On Force Sets
Last Updated: Genelia D'Souza reacts to 2012 rumours of marrying John Abraham on Force set. Genelia D'Souza has finally addressed one of the strangest rumours from her career — claims that she and co-star John Abraham were 'accidentally" married during the shoot of their 2011 action film Force. In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the actress cleared the air, debunking the bizarre story that had sparked wild speculation back in 2012. According to the rumour, a real priest had been brought on set to perform a wedding scene between the two actors — complete with rituals like mantras, garlands, the mangalsutra, and even the seven pheras — supposedly resulting in a legal marriage. Reacting to it all, Genelia said, 'There was no truth to it. We didn't get married. These stories were spread by PR, and I think you should ask them why they did it." The Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na star made it clear that the buzz had no basis in reality and was entirely manufactured by PR machinery. Despite how viral the story became at the time, Genelia maintained that neither she nor John Abraham had anything to do with fuelling the narrative. Today, Genelia is happily married to actor Riteish Deshmukh. The two tied the knot in 2012 and are now parents to two children. John is married to Priya Runchal. Ahead of its release, the actress sat for an interview and talked about her decision to take a 10-year break from acting and the limelight after her marriage to Riteish Deshmukh. During a conversation with Zoom, Genelia said, 'Most people ask me if it's easy to step away from the limelight for 10 years and I said, 'It's what I wanted to do, so I did it.' I saw a place after 10 years and I am happy in that place. I may not do 10 films, I may do three films, but my happiness is with that and that's what matters the most." Genelia took a break from acting in 2012 after tying the knot with Riteish. She made her acting comeback with the Marathi film Ved. Released in 2022, the film was directed by Riteish himself and turned out to be a hit. However, the actress made cameo appearances in films like Jai Ho and Force 2. First Published:

Genelia Says She Works 10-Hour Shifts Amid Deepika's Spirit Exit Row: ‘Tough But Not Impossible'
Last Updated: Genelia Deshmukh says balancing work and motherhood is 'tough but not impossible' amid Deepika Padukone's exit from Spirit after fallout with Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Genelia Deshmukh has opened up about juggling professional commitments and motherhood, even as Deepika Padukone's controversial exit from Spirit has reignited the conversation around work-life balance in the industry. In a recent chat with Zoom, Genelia revealed that while working long hours as a mother is difficult, it's not unmanageable. 'It is tough but it is not impossible," she shared. 'I do work for 10 hours a day and there are days when the director asks to extend it to 11 or 12 hours. I think it's fair but we just need time to make those adjustments. When you have a day or two where you have to overdo, it's also an understanding and a process that needs to be done." The Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na actress is currently gearing up for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par opposite Aamir Khan. A spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, the film is a remake of the Spanish sports dramedy Champions and tells the story of a disgraced basketball coach who rediscovers himself by training a team of children with disabilities. Directed by RS Prasanna, it's slated to hit theatres on June 20. Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone recently exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit, leading to intense media scrutiny and speculation. Reports suggest she had requested an 8-hour workday, a significant pay-check and profit-sharing, terms that reportedly didn't align with the filmmaker's expectations. While Deepika didn't directly address the exit, she recently posted about staying true to herself, hinting at her priorities as a new mother. Vanga, on the other hand, took to X with a cryptic post, accusing an unnamed actor of breaching trust and playing '#dirtyPRgames." Without naming Deepika, he suggested someone had put down a younger actor while allegedly leaking story details. His statement read: 'You didn't get it. You won't get it. You will never get it." Triptii Dimri, who rose to fame with Animal, is replacing Deepika in Spirit. The ongoing debate around work-life balance, particularly for women in the industry, continues to stir conversation.

Genelia Deshmukh questions industry for not offering her roles like Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par: 'They think I am married so...'
Genelia D'Souza is making a comeback in 'Sitaare Zameen Par' alongside Aamir Khan. She calls this role meaningful. The film releases on June 20. Genelia discusses challenges post-marriage and industry biases. Aamir Khan recognized her potential and she auditioned for the role. Director RS Prasanna praises her popularity and talent across various regional industries. Genelia D'Souza is all set to return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, where she stars opposite Aamir Khan in a role she calls one of the most meaningful of her career. As the film gears up for its June 20 release, Genelia opened up about the challenges of finding substantial roles post-marriage, her thoughts on industry bias, and why she still had no hesitation auditioning—three times—for a character she truly believed in. Speaking to Filmymantra Media, the actress recalled how people reacted with excitement when they learned she was part of Sitaare Zameen Par, calling her lucky to be working with Aamir Khan. She credited Aamir for recognising her potential and shared that, while he did ask her to audition, she had no hesitation. Genelia added that other filmmakers could also take that approach and consider her for substantial roles. She went on to say that industry norms often influence casting decisions, suggesting that her marital status may lead some to assume she doesn't need such roles. Genelia emphasized that while filmmaking has evolved, the mindset around casting still needs to catch up. She believes it's crucial to cast actors who genuinely fit the character's age and life stage, as younger performers may miss the subtle nuances. She expressed hope that opportunities become more inclusive and reflective of real-life diversity. Interestingly, Genelia's association with Aamir Khan Productions goes back to 2008, when she starred opposite Imran Khan in his debut film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, a cult romantic comedy directed by Abbas Tyrewala. Reflecting on the casting in a recent interview with SCREEN, Aamir Khan joked, 'That was a long time ago. And ab Imran bhi kaafi meri age ka ho gaya hai (Now even Imran is almost my age),' adding a touch of humour to the reunion. Aamir acknowledged that the age difference between him and Genelia did cross his mind, but explained that in Sitaare Zameen Par, both characters are portrayed as being in their early 40s. He pointed out that despite being 60, advancements in VFX help bridge that gap on screen. Aamir also revealed that casting Genelia was the idea of director RS Prasanna . In an exclusive interview with SCREEN, director RS Prasanna shared that casting Genelia D'Souza was an easy choice, especially given her immense popularity in the South, where he hails from. He praised her vibrant energy and acting talent, adding that she's beloved across regional industries. 'She's done it all—Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and now even Marathi,' Prasanna noted, calling it a joy to work with her. Meanwhile, Genelia D'Souza began her acting career with the Bollywood film Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. That same year, she made her Tamil debut with Boys, followed by her first Telugu film Satyam in 2004. She ventured into Kannada cinema with Satya My Love in 2008 and made her Malayalam debut with Urumi in 2011. In 2022, she made her full-fledged entry into Marathi cinema with Ved, directed by her husband Riteish Deshmukh .
