Caught on camera: Man hit by driver at Southside car meet
Video circulating on social media shows the moment a man was hit by a driver at a car meet in a Southside parking lot. Witnesses said that it was supposed to be just a 'park and chill' type of meet. In dash camera video provided to Action News Jax, you can see the car speed across the parking lot before hitting the victim. People then started running over to see if he was okay. Watch the video below at your own discretion: >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] Witnesses said the victim was trying to stop the driver, who they claim was driving recklessly. 'This car came up and he started doing donuts,' said Brandon Ferrill, who is part of the local car community. 'And first of all, that's dangerous in any parking lot, but this was a crowded parking lot.' 'He showed up to what was otherwise a pretty civilized event. It was just people hanging out here, chilling with their cars and they were here to talk. No one was driving around or anything,' said Ferrill. Another video shows a different angle of the collision. It appears the car swerved before hitting the man, and then took off. Action News Jax spoke with the man who was injured in the video, who said he had been released from the hospital. He said he had a head injury, but is now recovering. We asked JSO if they are investigating the incident, and a spokesperson said they were not aware of the incident or the video. We also requested reports Friday afternoon to see if police responded to the area the night this happened. We are waiting to hear back. As a member of the local car community, Ferrill said they don't stand for any kind of reckless behavior at their meets. 'We need to make sure that we set an example of responsible car ownership,' said Ferrill. [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Autopsy report for Duval Co. jail inmate complete amidst ongoing investigation
It's been over 2 months since Duval County jail inmate Charles Faggart died following an incident at the jail. We have learned that the state attorney's office has received a copy of the medical examiner's report; however, right now, they are not releasing it as their office is still investigating. On April 7th, Duval County Jail inmate Charles Faggart was transported to a Jacksonville hospital in critical condition following an incident at the jail. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< The next day, JSO Sheriff TK Waters said as a result of the incident, 8 JSO corrections officers and 1 corrections sergeant were removed from their positions and stripped of their corrections authority. On April 10th, Faggart was pronounced dead at the hospital. Since then, Action News Jax has been following up with JSO, the medical examiner's office, and the state attorney's office to see if the investigation is complete. Earlier this week, I asked JSO if its portion of the investigation is complete. A spokesperson replied: 'The case continues to be active, and we await follow-up from the SAO in their portion of the investigation.' [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] 'Normally, once it is referred over to the state attorney's office, it's probably a pretty safe assumption that the police have concluded their side of the investigation. Usually that's how it goes,' said Chris Carson, a defense attorney. Chris Carson is a defense attorney in Jacksonville. I asked him what he thought would happen with the state attorney's investigation. 'My sense is that we're probably waiting on what I would expect are some of the more experienced prosecutors within the state attorney's office and probably some of the higher ups to actually review what has been provided to them and ultimately make a decision on whether there should be formalized criminal charges going towards anyone who was involved in the incident,' said Carson. [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] Nine corrections officers were removed from the jail a day after Faggart was taken to the hospital. Last month, Sheriff T.K. Waters told us that doesn't mean anyone was guilty of a crime. 'It was to say that we need to investigate this process,' said Sheriff Waters. 'We need to investigate it fully and make sure that we provide the public and that young man's family with the right answers.' There has been no word on when the State Attorney's office investigation will be completed. We reached out to the attorney representing the Faggart family, but she declined to comment., Click here to download the free Action News Jax news and weather apps, click here to download the Action News Jax Now app for your smart TV and click here to stream Action News Jax live.

Exotic car dealership suddenly no longer in service, clients seek answers
If you're driving down Beach Boulevard on Jacksonville's Southside, you'll pass Karma Automotive Dealership. Karma opened in Jacksonville in 2022. According to Sun Biz, it is owned by Vladimir 'Val' Ranguelov, who also owns Bul Auto Sales in Albany, New York. If you visit either of the dealerships' websites, a message pops up that reads: 'We regret to inform you we have ceased operations.' Read: Law Enforcement preparing for 'No Kings' protests across Northeast Florida this weekend Local television station, WNYT in Albany, contacted Action News Jax when it found out police there are investigating the dealership for potential fraud. Customers there claimed bank loans related to cars were never paid off. Shawn Branlund was a technician at Karma Jacksonville. On May 30th, He says he reached out to the owner after hearing of potential problems at the Albany location. 'He said to just come in on Monday, and we would talk about it, kind of explain what's going on,' Branlund said. 'On my end, I did come in on Monday to hopefully talk to the owner, Val, who never showed up, never got a hold of him. We ended up getting all our equipment out, just our personal belongings.' I spoke to a customer of Karma Jacksonville who told me he contacted JSO on June 5th because his car was missing from the dealership. Action News Jax obtained this video from that day that shows JSO and tow trucks taking the cars off the lot. Shawn says he never would have expected this from Val. 'He paid everyone really well, he was always taking us out on his boat, and taking us out to dinner. He's just a super nice guy, like, and definitely never saw this coming,' said Branlund. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< We reached out to JSO late this afternoon to get the report from the day they responded to the dealership, but we have not received the report yet. We reached out to the FBI in Jacksonville to find out if it had any active investigations in Karma Jacksonville. A spokesperson for the FBI Jacksonville says, 'The FBI does not confirm nor deny the existence or status of any investigation.' We tried to contact the owner directly at two different phone numbers, but were unable to get in contact with him [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] Click here to download the free Action News Jax news and weather apps, click here to download the Action News Jax Now app for your smart TV and click here to stream Action News Jax live.
