PM Modi slams RJD-Congress for 'insulting' Ambedkar; warns against 'jungle raj'
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi , speaking at a rally in Bihar's Siwan on Friday criticised the Rashtriya Janata Dal ( RJD ) and Congress over the recent controversy involving an alleged insult to B.R. Ambedkar 's picture by Lalu Prasad. Modi asserted that both parties have consistently disrespected Ambedkar, citing his opposition to dynastic politics and his advocacy for the downtrodden. He further underlined that the two allies are trying to bring back the ' jungle raj ' that preceded Nitish Kumar 's chief ministership. The PM inaugurated and laid foundation stones for various projects worth ₹5,200 crore in Siwan. Ahead of the Assembly polls due in October-November in Bihar, Modi stated that the double-engine government under JDU Chief Nitish Kumar has brought all-round development to the state. He emphasised that during his just-concluded visit to Canada for the G7 summit, leaders of developed nations expressed admiration for India's progress towards becoming the third-largest economy. Slamming RJD and Congress on the Ambedkar controversy, Modi said, "The spirit of our Constitution is that everybody in the country should get the opportunity to progress and there is no discrimination against anybody. We also say with the same feeling -'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (Collective efforts, inclusive growth). But the 'Laltain' (lantern) and 'Panja' (hand) walas say - 'Parivar ka Saath, Parivar ka Vikas' (Family's efforts, family's growth). This is the gist of their politics -for ensuring gains to their families, they do not hesitate to harm the interests of crores of families in Bihar and the country." (Laltain is the party symbol of RJD while Panja is the election symbol of the Congress.) He stated that Ambedkar himself was strongly opposed to this kind of politics, and hence RJD and Congress have insulted him at every step. "The whole country has seen how RJD leaders have treated a photo of Baba Saheb. I saw posters have come up in Bihar demanding that they apologise for this insult to Baba Saheb, but I know they will never apologise, as in their hearts they have no respect for Dalits, Mahadalits, backward, and most backward communities," he said. Live Events Prasad, who is ailing and mostly rests his legs on a couch while sitting, was embroiled in a controversy when a party supporter placed a photo of Baba Saheb close to his feet. BJP and JDU have been demanding an apology from RJD for this perceived insult to the Dalit leader. Accompanied by Nitish Kumar and other BJP-JDU leaders on the dais, the Prime Minister launched a scathing attack on the RJD, recalling the 15-year rule under Lalu Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi. He cautioned that RJD and Congress are seeking another opportunity to bring "jungle raj" to the state and appealed to the people of Bihar to protect their future by keeping "miles away from such forces which seek to put brakes on development." He termed the policies of RJD and Congress as "anti-Bihar and anti-investment." Later, at another rally in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to mark one year of the BJP government in the state, the PM underlined that the dispensation is working tirelessly day and night for the welfare of all sections, especially tribals and backward communities.

Nitish Kumar thanks PM Modi, highlights NDA's achievements in Bihar
Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of key infrastructure and development projects in the state on Friday. Addressing the massive crowd gathered at the venue, Nitish Kumar said, 'It is a matter of great happiness that the Prime Minister has come to Siwan. I warmly welcome and congratulate him.' He listed the projects being launched, which include 22 urban development projects, six road projects, a rail project, and the launch of two new trains, including the Vande Bharat Express, and the first export of a locomotive from Bihar's Madhura rail factory. Nitish emphasised that Bihar stands to gain significantly from these initiatives. In a veiled attack on the RJD, Nitish Kumar remarked: 'People are talking 'nonsense' these days. It is meaningless. They should be asked what the condition of Bihar was before our government. No one could even step outside their homes. Look at today, so many people, including women and youth, have gathered here to listen to the Prime Minister.' He highlighted the longstanding partnership between JDU and BJP, recalling that since November 24, 2005, the NDA alliance has continuously worked for Bihar's development. Nitish underscored the state government's work in the sectors of education, health, and especially women's empowerment. 'We gave 50 per cent reservation to women. We constructed bridges, ensured tap water and electricity under Saat Nischay (Seven Resolves), and built toilets in every home. Even new houses and settlements are being provided with facilities,' Kumar said. He also mentioned employment efforts: 'Government jobs were provided to thousands of youth, both men and women. I have personally inspected development work across the state and cleared 430 new schemes. Work has already started in Siwan, Gopalganj, and Saran.' The rally marked PM Modi's fifth visit to Bihar in 2025, as the state heads toward assembly elections later this year.

Highlighting the meeting, Jha said that the delegation members have submitted a feedback report to the Prime Minister. Speaking to ANI, Jha said, 'Yesterday, the Prime Minister called all the MPs and took feedback from everyone. He listened to everyone and their feedback. It was a de-briefing regarding Operation Sindoor and India's stand, especially of the Prime Minister's zero tolerance on terrorism, the new normal that India has, and that if any terrorist activity takes place on the border, we will consider it an act of war... He listened to everyone and also gave input. He also thanked us for the work we did there. The biggest thing was that it was an all-party delegation and people from various parties were there, the Prime Minister also appreciated us for putting forth the views of the entire country in one voice...' Praising Prime Minister Modi, the JDU MP stated that during the meeting, the Prime Minister asked everyone to give their suggestions, and the 'biggest thing' was that he was listening to everyone for the maximum time. Jha asserted, 'We have also reported our feedback to the Prime Minister, and all our colleagues shared their experiences of whatever we said, the response there or the way people view things in the world, that India has become the fourth largest economy of the world. The Prime Minister also asked everyone to give their suggestions, and the biggest thing was that he was listening to everyone for the maximum time... When we went to the world and told that nuclear blackmail would not work, he listened and appreciated everyone's work...' Caste Survey? Check. Phase 1 Of BJP-Led Alliance's Bihar Poll Prep Done
New Delhi: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has completed groundwork for distribution of tickets for the Bihar Assembly election expected to be held later this year, sources told NDTV Tuesday. As part of that ground work a survey of caste and power equations has been conducted in each constituency, to pinpoint the caste or community from which to draw candidates who will be fielded by the ruling alliance, which is fronted by the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar 's JDU. Care will be taken to balance caste equations in each seat, sources said, and no ally will be allowed to field candidates without considering these dynamics. Caste and caste equations are a critical factor in the Bihar electoral landscape, a factor underlined by the results of the statewide survey in November 2023 that said over 60 per cent of the state's population of nearly 14 crore are from Extremely Backward and Backward Classes. The survey also said the Yadav community - the group to which RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav belongs - is the largest sub-group, accounting for 14.27 per cent of all OBC categories. There is also an agreement to allow sitting MLAs the chance to defend their seat, which appears to contradict the BJP's practice of wholesale pre-election changes to counter anti-incumbency. However, some MLAs be changed based on their performance these past five years. A few more rounds of talks - on seat-sharing - will take place in Bihar before it shifts to Delhi, where the BJP's senior leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will name candidates. The Seat-Sharing Formula Last week sources told NDTV the formula for seat allocation will be similar (but not identical) to the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Then the state's 40 seats were divided as follows - 17 for the BJP, 16 for the JDU, five for Chirag Paswan's LJP, and one each for Jitan Manjhi's HAM and the RLM. This time, however, the allocation may tilt in favour of the JDU. Sources said Nitish Kumar's party might contest 102-103 seats and the BJP 101-102. The remaining - 38-40 seats - will be divided between the three smaller parties. Of this the LJP will likely get the lion's share - between 25 and 28 - because it has five MPs. The Chirag Paswan Angle Chirag Paswan - who many feel was used by the BJP in the 2020 election to cut votes from Nitish Kumar's JDU - has been talking up his party's chances in this election. On Sunday he addressed a rally in Patna and said his party would contest all 243 seats. He also referred to his father - the late former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who died in October 2020 - and said that having lost him, the people of Bihar are his only family. However, Mr Paswan was also quick to underline his support for the BJP-led alliance, stressing that his plans to contest all seats was intended to "make the NDA stronger". READ | "Yes, Will Contest From Bihar," Says Chirag Paswan. Then Adds Twist Mr Paswan contested against Nitish Kumar in the 2020 election. This cut down the JDU boss' dominant position in the alliance and allowed the BJP to play big brother, a fact that played its part in an angry Nitish Kumar dumping the saffron party and re-aligning with the RJD in 2022. However, in January 2024 Nitish Kumar - who formed the INDIA opposition bloc to unite parties opposed to the BJP in the two years away, only to find himself being sidelined in his quest (denied publicly) to become a prime ministerial candidate - re-re-aligned himself with the BJP. The BJP's intention to give Nitish Kumar a marginal edge in terms of seats allocated might be a tactic to pacify the JDU leader ahead of this election given Chirag Paswan's presence. Assurances that Nitish will be the chief ministerial candidate of the NDA have also been given. Congress-RJD Rift? Meanwhile, across the divide it appears all is not well in the opposition Mahagathbandan camp, which includes the Tejashwi Yadav-led RJD, the Congress, and Left parties. The Congress has, so far, not endorsed Mr Yadav as the alliance leader and chief ministerial candidate, sparking rumours the national party, which has struggled for traction in recent Bihar polls, having won 27 in 2015 and only 19 in the last election, will try to go solo once again. The RJD, though, has made its position clear - Tejashwi Yadav is the face of the opposition.
