Boston Celtics jersey history No. 20 - JD Davison (2022-25)

Boston Celtics jersey history No. 20 - JD Davison (2022-25) The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the 31st of 31 people to wear the No. 20 jersey, Boston guard alum JD Davison. After ending his college career at Alabama, Davison was picked up with the 53rd overall selection of the 2022 NBA draft by the Celtics. The Montgomery, Alabama native would play the first three seasons of his pro career with Boston, and remains with the team at the time of writing. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Davison wore only jersey No. 20 and put up 1.9 points per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.

JD Davison reacts to making the Boston Celtics full roster

One could do worse than winning the G League 2025 Most Valuable Player award to make your case for a full roster spot with the Boston Celtics. And that is exactly what Celtics two way point guard managed to do for his case to be elevated to the full roster after several seasons shuttling back and forth between Boston and Portland to play for the Maine Celtics at the G League level. While the University of Alabama alum has not had all that much of an impact at the NBA level, it is hard to do more the next level down. And it is safe to say that Boston ought to at least give Davison a shot to show what he has at the NBA level next season. Boston Celtics reportedly converting two way point guard JD Davison to a full roster spot

The Boston Celtics are reportedly converting two way point guard JD Davison to a full roster spot to fill their final open roster spot, according to new reporting from ESPN's Shams Charania. The Alabama native will answer the question of what the Celtics planned to do with their 15th regular roster spot, which has been open for the entire 2024-25 NBA regular season. The deal will be a standard, two-year contract, per the senior ESPN reporter, presumably covering the remainder of this season and next. Davison has not popped at the NBA level in the limited run that he has had this season, appearing in just 15 games and putting up 1.6 points points per game. But despite having played for Boston for three seasons now in a two way role, the University of Alabama alum is still very young at just 22 years old, and has been tearing it up at the G League level. Advertisement There, he logged an impressive 25.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on his way to winning this season's G League Most Valuable Player award with the Maine Celtics. Mandatory Credit: David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports Davison may still be unpolished and unused to the NBA game, but with plenty of room to grow, the vision Boston has for him is evident. He likely won't see the floor in the postseason this year save for blowouts, but Boston will need to continue to develop low-salary options for depth for the foreseeable future, and it's hard to make a better case to invest in a player than the season Davison has had in the G League.
