Scone preview: It Stays In Vegas can kickstart another big day for Scott Singleton
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Local trainer Scott Singleton will again be a force at Scone's first meeting since their annual Cup day/stand-alone carnival where he posted his 400th career win and won the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic. Singleton is represented by three of his string on Tuesday starting with the lightly-raced three-year-old It Stays In Vegas who tackles the Arrowfield Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1000m). The son of one-time Arrowfield resident stallion Shalaa resumed in the coveted Red Crown at Muswellbrook on June 1 but proved no match for the long odds-on winner, Raging Force. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'I was happy enough for him to run second to that horse there but I was disappointed that he couldn't,'' Singleton said. 'I thought he was just a little bit plain but admittedly, he was first-up and he had to sit outside the leader. 'And it was a funny track that day, it was really gluey and a lot of horses didn't like it so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that those couple of things might have played against him. 'I think he is a better horse than he went the other day so I am wanting to see him bounce back and do something there on Tuesday.' It Stays In Vegas is a third generation Australian thoroughbred but does indeed have some American blood and via the likes of two epic stallions, one of them an immortal. His third dam was a daughter of Seeking The Gold while her fourth was by Seattle Slew, who this week 48 years ago, completed the US Triple Crown by winning the Belmont Stakes. Singleton, meanwhile, has the honour and distinction of saddling up one of the shortest-priced favourites racing at Scone on Tuesday in Ritzsun ($1.85) in the third race on the eight-event program. Ritzsun has been a model of consistency throughout his nine starts, winning twice (both of them at Scone) together with four placings, three of them seconds. The son of Rosebud winner Sebring Sun's most recent performance was a brave and determined on-pace second in the 1200m TAB Highway conducted at Gosford on the Gold Cup and The Coast day. His Tuesday assignment is the Scone CWA Centenary Benchmark 82 Handicap (1000m). 'Up in grade but down in weight,'' Singleton said. 'He's in an 82 there but he is only carrying 55(kg) so from a good draw and the way he has been working, I would be expecting him to win to be honest.' Ritzsun has already contested three Highways inside his nine starts and win, lose or draw on Tuesday, there will be a fourth somewhere down the road. 'That would be the plan,'' Singleton said. 'He has only won the two (races) so he can win again and still go to a Highway. 'He is definitely good enough to win a Highway if all the stars align.' Singleton is naturally eager for the well-bred mare Insightful Award to post her fourth win in the Darley Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Handicap (1300m) having placed at two of her last three 'away' runs. 'I am hoping that given when she won at Scone earlier in the prep, she bolted in, and that was down to the home-track and she can repeat that because it sort of came from nowhere,'' Singleton said. 'But she has remained in good order. 'She a little bit keen the other day at Warren but she certainly seems in good shape and she'll run well.' Tips and race-by-race guide for Scone on Tuesday
Selections based on a soft track. Race 1 5. Marin County is a UK import that had two starts at Kempton Park late last year and didn't do much in either. She had her first start in Australia when produced at Inverell and ran a solid-enough race to finish midfield. She is better for that run and can go on with the job here. 7. Priscila Statement ran third at Muswellbrook on debut and shouldn't be taken lightly based on that effort. 8. It Stays In Vegas won a trial before resuming with a fifth at Muswellbrook. He could make an impact in this. 1. Hot Chestnut resumes from a spell here and has shown some ability despite not figuring in the placings to date. How to play it: Marin County each way. Race 2 2. Lady Memphis has only had two starts for a debut second behind Private Harry at Newcastle and a strong win at Goulburn as favourite. She resumes from a spell here after two trials and only needs to return in the same form she left in to be winning again. 3. Signatories won at Muswellbrook on a heavy track two starts ago then was down the track in a tougher race here last time. He is set to improve in this. 1. Capital Dancer wasn't beaten far at Newcastle when last produced and has claims, while 8. Ranhita has been midfield of late and is far from the worst. How to play it: Lady Memphis to win. Race 3 9. Ritzsun is a talented performer with two wins and four placings from nine starts. He has finished second at Mudgee and Gosford at his latest two starts and is knocking on the door for another victory after a recent trial in which he ran well. 6. Florida Sky resumes here after two trials and has shown the ability in her career to maintain her good fresh record here. 7. Bodgie has finished third in each of his latest two starts and can get into the money again. 8. In Spades was placed last time out and has claims again. How to play it: Ritzsun to win. Race 4 1. Louisburgh resumed with a solid second at Wyong then started at a short odds-on quote only to finish second again at Gosford when narrowly beaten. He should be at his peak now. 3. Purple Haze debuted with a third in a small field at Wyong and followed that up with a last-start fourth at Gosford. 9. Backward Glance followed a couple of placings with a last-start fourth at Newcastle and that form looks solid, while 5. Omaha Sand resumes here and hasn't been beaten far in each of his three starts. How to play it: Louisburgh to win.

Race-by-race preview and tips for Sunday's meeting at Muswellbrook
Selections based on a soft track Race 1 2. Raging Force has had only one start, and that was in the Breeders Plate at Randwick in the spring. He finished sixth in that event after winning a trial, and was then spelled. He's had another trial leading into this resuming run and finished third. He has the advantage of barrier one and looks to have the class to make a winning return. 7. Issy's Star is a filly on debut, and she's had two trials either side of a break in preparation. She's drawn well and is set to run a bold race. 5. It Stays In Vegas debuted with a fifth at Scone in January and returns from a break here on the back of a Gunnedah trial victory. 4. Velka is making his debut after two trials in January and a recent one on April 30, in which he scored a win, at Tamworth. How to play it: Raging Force WIN. Race 2 7. Dendina debuted at Narromine in August, 2023, and ran third as a well-backed favourite. She hasn't raced since but has had three barrier trials spread over a lengthy period, the latest a fourth at Wellington last month. She has the talent to give a good sight fresh. 8. Last Lalique is a filly on debut that had three trials last year and has had another one at Gunnedah last month in which she ran second in preparation for this. 10. Priscila Statement ran third in a Beaumont track trial at Newcastle and debuts here from the inside barrier. 1. Brummagen resumes from a long spell after a solid third in a Wellington trial. How to play it: Dendina EACH WAY. Race 3 5. Image Of The Sun has been mixing her form since resuming from a spell. She failed to beat a runner home when resuming then finished second at Quirindi before a down-the-track effort in Highway grade at Scone. This looks a better assignment and the step up in distance should suit. 2. Cascade Mountain has had three straight wins and can take a power of beating again. 1. Ring Ahoy has talent on his day and can show up without surprising. 8. Deemee has been placed in three runs since scoring at Dubbo, and is a chance again. How to play it: Image Of The Sun WIN. Race 4 11. Pensativa had been racing well before a spell with a win at Gunnedah and a second on the Beaumont track at Newcastle. She resumed with a good fourth at Scone and has drawn well in gate one. 8. McKeon hit the line well to win at Gosford in Highway grade last time out and can be a major force again. 9. Zenti was placed at Tamworth in his latest start and warrants place thought again. 3. Inferencia won a couple on end at Newcastle and Rosehill before a last-start sixth at Warwick Farm. How to play it: Pensativa WIN.
