Remove Ads Although Assam has an estimated potential of 13,428 MW of rooftop solar (RTS) power generation, it is currently producing a mere 60 MW, officials and experts, however, said efforts were underway to reverse the trend with the state's Integrated Clean Energy Policy (ICEP) targeting the generation of 1,900 MW of rooftop solar power by 2030, a sharp increase from the 300 MW goal outlined in the Assam Renewable Energy Policy (AREP), 2022."Assam is at a pivotal moment in its climate change and energy journey. Naidu eyes AP as green energy hub with ₹14 trn investment pipeline

Andhra Pradesh attracted investments to the tune of ₹14 trillion in the last one year since Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu took charge, aligning with his vision to make the state an industrial hub, with special focus on green energy. Out of the ₹14 trillion investments, projects around ₹9.2 trillion have been cleared. They have either got land allotted by the government, which completes one year on Thursday, or received government incentives. The major investors include NTPC Green Energy (₹1.85 trillion), ArcelorMittal Nippon India (₹1.35 trillion), Indosol Solar (₹1.29 trillion), NHPC (₹1 trillion), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (₹96,862 crore), and Reliance Industries (₹65,000 crore), among others. Driven by an attractive Integrated Clean Energy Policy launched in October 2024, which fast-tracked clearances and lined up fresh sops, the state also grabbed a considerable share of the country's renewable energy investments in the last one year. In renewables too, major committed investments are coming from Tata Power (₹49,000 crore), multiple projects by NTPC Green (₹2.08 trillion), Vedanta's Serentica (₹50,000 crore), SAEL Industries (₹6,000 crore), and Brookfield (₹50,000 crore), among others. Green energy major ReNew Power is also set to come up with a ₹22,000-crore renewable project at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, which is going to be the largest renewable energy (RE) complex in India. The complex will manufacture around 2.5 gigawatts (Gw) of RE power and a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 1 gigawatt hour (Gwh), in two phases. According to a Central Electricity Authority (CEA) roadmap, of the target of 500 Gw generation capacity from non-fossil fuel resources by 2030, 86 Gw of RE potential is in South India. Out of this 86 Gw, around 51 Gw has been identified in Andhra Pradesh (Anantapur – 20 Gw, Kurnool – 23 Gw, and Kadapa – 8 Gw). The policy in October mainly targeted large-scale promotion of RE, pumped storage power (PSP), green hydrogen, and its derivatives through the optimum utilisation of available resources.

ReNew to set up INR 22k Cr hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh

Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), May 16 (UNI) ReNew Energy Global Plc ('ReNew'), a leading decarbonisation solutions company, on Friday announced it will invest INR 22,000 crore (US $2.5 billion) to set up one of India's largest hybrid renewable energy projects in the district. With a generation capacity of around 2.8 GW, including 1.8 GWp solar and 1 GW wind, and a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 2 GWh, this will be one of the largest RE complexes at a single location in India, the company claimed in a release here. Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information Technology, Nara Lokesh, laid the foundation stone for the project in the presence of Sumant Sinha, Founder, Chairman, and CEO, ReNew. In the project's first phase, ReNew will set up 587 MWp solar and 250 MW wind energy capacity, along with a 415 MWh BESS, for which PPAs have already been signed. The rest of the capacity will be developed in subsequent phases. With a large BESS to be installed, the project will be able to supply power for up to 4 peak hours every day (non-RE generating hours), which will help the off-takers with peak demand management and enable renewable energy to be more firm and dispatchable. Aligned with the Make in India mission, the project will be made up of 100% Made-in-India solar panels supplied from ReNew's solar manufacturing units in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Dholera, Gujarat. Additionally, it will use state-of-the-art solar tracking systems to maximise the generation, and waterless robotic cleaning for solar panels that will enable considerable savings of water. Commenting on the development, the Minister said, 'This project is directly aligned with Andhra Pradesh's Integrated Clean Energy Policy and contributes to India's 500 GW non-fossil fuel goal by 2030. This project is a testament to Andhra Pradesh's resurgence as a national leader in clean energy. We are building not just capacity, but also credibility and global investor confidence'. 'I commend ReNew for this project and would look forward to more such investments in the future,' the Minister added. Sumant Sinha said, 'The state of Andhra Pradesh presents an attractive mix of investor-friendly policies, excellent transmission connectivity, and abundant availability of solar and wind resources. We are highly optimistic about developing large-scale renewable energy capacity in the state to contribute to the Prime Minister's commitment of achieving the target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel electricity generation capacity by the year 2030.' ReNew has a portfolio of 717 MW of operational wind capacity and 60 MW of solar capacity spread over 10 sites in Andhra Pradesh. The company is dedicated to promoting clean energy-led growth in the state, and with this project, it will generate 1,500 direct and indirect jobs as it works in tandem with the government towards the state's target of generating 78.5 GW of solar, 35 GW of wind power capacity, and 25 GWh of battery energy storage, Sumant added. NEW DELHI : Nasdaq-listed ReNew Energy Global Plc on Friday announced an investment of ₹22,000 crore to set up a hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh. The 2.8 GW project including 1.8 gigawatt of solar, 1 GW wind, and a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 2 gigawatt hour (GWh) will be set up in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district. Nara Lokesh, the minister for information technology, electronics & communications, real-time governance and human resources development of Andhra Pradesh, laid the foundation stone for the project during the day in the presence of Sumant Sinha, founder, chairman, and CEO of ReNew. Andhra Pradesh stepped up its renewable energy drive with the launch of a major infrastructure project and a bold target to become a clean energy leader in Minister for Information Technology and Renewable Energy, Nara Lokesh, on Friday, laid the foundation stone for the ReNew Renewable Energy Complex in Anantapur. The project, valued at Rs 22,000 crore, marks one of the state's largest investments in the sector to green energy firm returned to Andhra Pradesh after six years with the 4.8 GW project, covering solar, wind and battery storage. Speaking at the event, Lokesh described the project as a turning point. 'Today, we are not just laying a foundation stone — we are laying the cornerstone of India's clean energy revolution,' he project is part of a broader plan to scale up renewable capacity across Andhra Pradesh. At the Renewable Energy Invest Summit held in 2024, the state announced its goal of achieving 72 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2029. Lokesh described the mission as 'bold, urgent, and necessary.'The announcement came a day after the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) approved 19 new projects worth Rs 33,720 crore, expected to create 34,621 jobs across sectors like energy, tourism, IT and the new government took office, SIPB has cleared 76 projects worth Rs 4.95 trillion, projected to generate 4.5 lakh jobs.A key focus of this plan is Rayalaseema, a region in southern Andhra Pradesh. Lokesh noted that a majority of the recent clean energy investments are being directed there, positioning the region as a future clean energy the last eight months, Andhra Pradesh has secured several major renewable energy commitments from firms such as Tata Power (Rs 49,000 crore for 7,000 MW), NTPC Green Hydrogen (Rs 1.86 lakh crore project foundation stone of which was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi), Vedanta Sarantika (Rs 50,000 crore for 10,000 MW), Sal Industries (Rs 6,000 crore for 1,200 MW) and Brookfield (Rs 50,000 crore for 8,000 MW)Lokesh attributed the state's progress to the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Referring to the Integrated Clean Energy Policy, launched in October 2024, he said it serves as a 'blueprint for India's green revolution.' He praised Naidu's long-term planning, stating, 'Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu Garu is not merely building roads and infrastructure; he is building highways to the future.''Andhra Pradesh is not just adapting to change — it is driving and creating it,' Lokesh added.
