Charles Barkley cameos on Stanley Cup pregame show — and makes bold prediction
Charles Barkley may not have much experience in skates, but that didn't stop the NBA legend from offering some pregame analysis on TNT's broadcast of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. 'There's no place I'd rather be in the world,' Barkley told the TNT studio crew that included Wayne Gretzky, Henrik Lundqvist and Paul Bissonnette, before offering his two cents on the matchup between the Oilers and Panthers. When prompted by Gretzky, Barkley said his money is on Edmonton for Tuesday night's game at Amerant Bank Arena in Florida — he bet big on the Oilers before the series, and is still counting on Connor McDavid and Co. forcing a Game 7 in Edmonton and capturing the Cup. Advertisement The Hall of Famer was asked about the NBA Finals Game 6 his Suns played against the Bulls in 1993, trailing the series 3-2, and what it was like to face Michael Jordan with so much on the line. McDavid, TNT host Liam McHugh pointed out, is the closest thing hockey has to Michael Jordan right now. 'When you're a great player, you have to say to yourself, 'You know what, I've got to beat their best player. Because you know he's going to play great.' The reason the Panthers stole Game 5 in Edmonton, according to Barkley, was because Florida's Brad Marchand stepped up and was 'the best player on the ice.' He added that the Panthers' Aleksander Barkov, one of the best defensive forwards in the game, reminds him of Dennis Rodman. 3 The Panthers celebrate a goal in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. That, Barkley told the TNT crew, he has never seen in the NBA. The Panthers held a 3-0 edge after the first two periods of Game 6.

Shaq on 'Inside The NBA' leaving TNT: 'Nothing lasts forever'
Shaq on 'Inside The NBA' leaving TNT: 'Nothing lasts forever' The 15-time NBA All-Star and current commentator speaks with Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill about the show's end with the network as it leaves for ESPN beginning next season. Hear the full conversation on 'Good Word with Goodwill' and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript This iteration of Inside the NBA. Advertisement I know you guys had the documentary after the game of Game 4. Just what are your emotions? Are you emotional about what this iteration could potentially going somewhere else? How do you feel about it? There's a lot of people in Atlanta, a lot of people in that Turner family. What emotions come up for you? I realize nothing lasts forever. And at some point change is inevitable. Growing up in the military. Uh, family. I'm used to doing something every 4 years. So I've been in Turner for 12 years. I did 3 terms at Turner. I was telling me to do something else. You know, I don't really get emotional. I'm just thankful and blessed to have the opportunity. Advertisement I'm glad that we're still going to be working together at some capacity, and it's a challenge for us to build something new. We're not going to be doing that show anymore, but us 4 still going to be together. And the good thing we're still going to be shooting in our studio in Atlanta. Somebody's gonna lease our show. So, yeah, it's just not gonna be called inside the NBA on TNT anymore. So we don't know if they're gonna call it inside the NBA on ESPN, but I know for a fact Charles ain't changing. I'm not changing and Ernie's not changing. So ESPN better get ready for all the jokes, all the, all the borderline jokes, all the comforts. Advertisement And hopefully we don't have to make too many apologies. So I think the, the, the title of the show is gonna change, but I think it would be a different question if you're saying, Ernie was going here, I'm going there, rucks and like you don't see us 4 together, but I think all the guys have signed and you will see us together. And it's my understanding, we will be shooting from the same like so our routines are the same. Nothing changes for us. I just think the title of the show, but nobody knows what it's gonna be. But I know when you got us 4 together, we create magic. Big man, appreciate you as always, man. I hope to see you in the finals, brother. All right, thank you, brother.

ESPN NBA booth facing another potential shakeup with Doris Burke's spot in limbo
The 2025 NBA Finals could be the first and last for ESPN's current top broadcasting trio. The future of the booth featuring longtime play-by-play voice Mike Breen and analysts Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson is up in the air, as Burke's spot 'is not guaranteed for next season' and Jefferson is on an expiring contract, The Athletic's Andrew Marchand reported Wednesday. Advertisement Jefferson has drawn interest from Amazon, the report said, ahead of its first season airing NBA games starting in the fall, though ESPN 'intends' on bringing the former Nets star back. NBAE via Getty Images One factor ESPN will weigh is whether Burke would be better suited as part of a two-person or three-person broadcast crew, according to The Athletic. Burke rose to ESPN's No. 1 NBA team after the network dumped Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy following the 2023 NBA Finals. TNT just completed its final season broadcasting NBA games in the U.S., though the acclaimed 'Inside the NBA' will air on ESPN beginning next season through a licensing deal. Amazon has reached deals with Ian Eagle and Kevin Harlan to be its top play-by-players next season, while game analysts will include Stan Van Gundy, Dwyane Wade and Steve Nash. NBC will have Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle calling games, with Reggie Miller and Jamal Crawford joining them as game analysts. Michael Jordan has also joined NBC as a special contributor.
