Melissa Rauch Opens Up About Night Court Cancellation as Revival Fails to Find New Home: I Was in ‘Straight-Up Denial'

Some six weeks after NBC handed down its verdict to not renew its Night Court revival for a fourth season, series co-lead and executive producer Melissa Rauch has shared her thoughts on hanging up Judge Abby Stone's robe. As TVLine's Inside Line column reported earlier this month, early efforts to shop the sitcom revival had come up empty. As such, the eventual outlook was not looking great. And now it is official. 'Perhaps it was being raised on The Goonies' 'Never Say Die' motto or straight up denial that I didn't want this incredibly special experience to come to an end. 'That said, after turning over all the stones there were to be turned over, we've learned that it is officially the hour to say 'farewell,'' she continued. 'Or at least 'Until next time.'' A continuation of the 1984-92 courtroom comedy led by the late Harry Anderson and five-time Emmy winner John Larroquette, NBC's revival starred Big Bang Theory alum Rauch as Abby Stone, who presided over the same New York City night court as her late father Harry. Larroquette reprised his role as attorney Dan Fielding, who served as the night court's public defender. The supporting cast included Lacretta as bailiff Gurgs, Nyambi Nyambi as court clerk Wyatt and sitcom vet Wendie Malick, who joined the cast full-time in Season 3 as new prosecutor Julianne. Warfield, who played Roz on the original Night Court, occasionally reprised her role as well. Viewership for the revival slipped 36% in Season 3, to an average of 1.95 million per episode. Among all NBC scripted shows, it only outdrew freshmen Suits LA (cancelled) and Grosse Pointe Garden Society (ostensibly still in limbo). 'As a kid whose best friend was TV, getting to play make believe with comedy legends on the recreation of a set I watched as a little girl felt like stepping through the looking glass in the best possible way,' Rauch said. 'Walking through those iconic halls. Sitting at the cafeteria tables with the chairs from the original. Feeling the electricity from the live studio audience on a tape night while doing a courtroom scene surrounded by a brilliant, powerhouse group of actors, phenomenally gifted writers and the best crew in the biz. It all felt exceptionally dream-like.' In conclusion, Rauch wrote, 'I was told that the original creator of Night Court, the great Reinhold Weege, said that the courtroom doors were key to the show's engine as they ushered in endless stories. And I like to think that's how Night Court carries on. Just as it did in the 30 years between the first incarnation ending and us beginning. The evergreen revolving door of oddballs and cynics populating that Manhattan arraignment court in the wee hours of the night and at the center of it all a workplace family that will forever be… until next time.' Star power missing as Anzac side miss out on world's highest-paid player

The Australia and New Zealand Invitational side to face the British and Irish Lions seven days ahead of the first Test will lack serious star power with New Zealand five-eighth Richie Mo'unga to miss the game in Adelaide due to a broken hand. Mounga's agent Cameron McIntyre confirmed that the world's highest-paid player has not recovered from the injury sustained playing for Japanese club Toshiba Brave Lupus. Mo'unga, who is reportedly on a $2m deal, had previously spoken of his wish to play in the fixture after speaking to former New Zealand coach Ian Foster, who will be an assistant for the AUNZ side. 'I miss the big Test match setting, the big arenas, this (AUNZ game) will be the closest I'll get to it while I'm in Japan,' Mo'unga previously told The news of Mo'unga's unavailability comes on the back of former Wallabies skipper Michael Hooper revealing that he turned down an invitation to represent the combined Australia and New Zealand side in Adelaide on 12 July. Speaking on Stan Sport's Inside Line Hooper stated that he would have liked to have seen a Barbarians style team with the best players possible from New Zealand and Australia, while also underlining the logistical difficulties in putting the team together. 'I would have loved to have seen it be an Australian New Zealand Barbarians trouble is trying to make it all work,' Hooper said. 'I mentioned around the length and the layover between games for some people, some guys are coming to the back end of the season. 'Maybe they don't want to keep training for another eight weeks because it's going to be a daunting task (to face the Lions).'

Reacher: Has the ‘Intensely Physical' Season 4 Storyline Been Revealed? Check Out a Big Clue

Eight months after Prime Video gave Reacher a very early Season 4 renewal, we have a major clue about which of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels it will adapt. The hit series' Instagram account on Wednesday shared a photo of a 'Season 4' script draped across the seat of a New York City subway train, strongly suggesting that Gone Tomorrow, the 13th of Child's Jack Reacher novels, is next in queue. More from TVLine The Summer I Turned Pretty: Love Blooms (and Taylor Swift Plays) in New Season 3 Trailer Yes, Prime Video Has Added More Ads Lately - Like, a Lot More Casting News: black-ish Star Joins Boston Blue, Carrie TV Series Adds 14 and More Without spoiling much of anything, Gone Tomorrow is set in motion when Reacher witnesses a female Pentagon staffer named Susan shoot herself dead on a NYC subway at 2 am. Some of the characters we can expect to be cast are NYPD homicide detective Theresa Lee; Susan's New Jersey policeman brother, Mark; and North Carolina congressman John Sansom. TVLine has reached out to Prime Video for official storyline confirmation. Alan Ritchson, who headline's TV's Reacher, was spotted in May in the stands at a Cubs game, filming a scene with Maria Sten for the Chicago-based Neagley spinoff. Sten co-starred as Neagley in the first three seasons of Reacher, after which she was tapped to headline her own series. As TVLine's Inside Line column told you, once Neagley's freshman season has wrapped filming, the cameras will get rolling on Reacher Season 4 (since the shows share much of the same crew). Reacher Season 4 was greenlit way back in October, well ahead of the well-reviewed third season's February premiere. Ritchson in a late May shared a photo of him with the Reacher stunt team, saying, 'Season 4 is going to be the most intensely physical season yet. My body is ready.' Filming for Season 4 'is right around the corner,' Ritchson suggested, 'and dare I say… May be the best season yet?' The 20+ Best TV Shows Based on Books View List Based on Child's Jack Reacher novels, Season 1 of the Prime Video series adapted Killing Floor, Child's 1997 debut novel/first Jack Reacher tale, in which the titular man mountain found a Georgia community grappling with its first homicide in 20 years — which got pinned on the new drifter in town (aka Reacher). Season 2 was based on Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th of Child's Jack Reacher novels, and followed the veteran military police investigator as he reunited with members of his old U.S. Army unit in the wake of the brutal murder of one of their own. Season 3 was based on the seventh book in Child's best-selling series, Persuader, in which Reacher went undercover to rescue an informant held by a foe from his past.
