When is Bryce Harper returning to the Philadelphia Phillies lineup after wrist injury? Hopefully sooner than later.
Bryce Harper had a positive outlook on his wrist injury, even if he isn't exactly sure when he'll be back in the Phillies lineup. Harper had a reason to be positive regarding the injury that kept him on the injured list since June 7, the same wrist injury that lingered throughout last season. Harper took 20 dry swings and 20 swings off a tee for the first time since going on the IL. To say the results were encouraging is an understatement. "It felt better than I thought it would," Harper said before the Phillies' showdown against the Mets on Friday. "So I'm happy about that." Harper also fielded groundballs at first base and threw outside 60 to 75 feet, so he and the Phillies appeared to be ramping up a possible return to the lineup. He'll do the same routine Saturday before taking the next steps toward coming back. While neither Harper nor the Phillies has a timetable for a return, he doesn't want to be playing through the pain he felt before going on the injured list. This wrist pain Harper couldn't tolerate, as he was only aggravating it more. "I understand what I can tolerate and what I can't," Harper said. "I've played through pain in my career. I think everybody has at some point. When I can play through the pain, I do. And it got to the point where I just couldn't do it." Colton Hall/MLB Photos via Getty Images "I hope the pain gets out of there. I don't want to play in pain at all," Harper said. "I think that's something we'll see as that comes around. Hopefully, it can get out of there, or stay out of just got to the point where I couldn't do it, and I didn't want to put myself in the position that I wasn't going to play well for my team." Harper hasn't received too many answers on this wrist inflammation, just that he needs to calm it down "as best as he can." Harper also won't need surgery as there are no structural issues with the wrist. Rest is the solution. The "rest" is what Harper can play through and what he can't. "I'm not happy that it came back," Harper said. "I was pain-free for probably 4 ½ months, and then it came back just randomly. So that's always tough. But I think those are things we're going to have to answer once I get going again." "How many swings am I going to take? How many times am I going to throw a ball? And things like that. It's tough not to take those swings or do any of those things. But we're just going to try to figure it out once we get there." Harper does appear to be returning to the Phillies lineup sooner rather than later. That timetable of returning may be significantly shorter in the coming days.

The 40 stitches that failed to stop Dolphins hooker Jeremy Marshall-King
The Dolphins are creating waves after three weeks of all-time premiership form and hooker Jeremy Marshall-King is just happy to be part of it after surgery. The 29-year-old missed five games with leg lacerations that required surgery after getting infected. His last two matches have been 58-4 and 56-6 wins over North Queensland and St George Illawarra respectively after he missed the previous 44-8 win over Canterbury. Those victories made the Dolphins only one of six teams in premiership history to have won three straight games by 36 points. Marshall-King suffered bad cuts against Penrith in round six and came back too soon in round nine against Sydney Roosters before missing the following four games. ABC Sport is live blogging every round of the AFL and NRL seasons in 2025. On Tuesday he spoke about his ordeal for the first time. "Everyone thought it was just a little scratch but it was two cuts on my leg that were pretty deep," he said. "It got infected at one point and probably didn't heal enough when I came back. I reopened it and had to go back in and get surgery. "They had to clean it out because it got infected and I had over 40 stitches in my quad — inside and outside. "It wasn't nice but I had to get it done. It is a little setback in my footy this year but it is good to be back playing and getting the wins." It is the way the sixth-placed Dolphins are winning that is such a joy. Their attack is on fire and defensively they have been elite, despite missing Daniel Saifiti, Max Plath and Tom Gilbert to season-ending injuries. "It's been really fun and enjoyable the last three weeks and breaking those records as well," he said. "It is all about our connection as a group but it comes back to our defence. The last three weeks we have kept teams to 18 and not many teams do that. "Adversity has been part of this club since we started. We've had a lot of setbacks but us boys bond and connect a lot better when things happen like [injuries]. We've got to keep going and be consistent in what we do." The Dolphins will miss captain Felise Kaufusi to suspension for the next fortnight with hooker Harrison Graham set to come onto the bench against Newcastle in Perth on Saturday afternoon. That will allow stand-out utility Kurt Donoghoe to play longer minutes at lock and not have to slot in at hooker when Marshall-King has a rest. "Kurt's a great player. His ball playing around the middle opens up our edges as well and that is something we had probably been missing," Marshall-King said. "It takes pressure off our halves. He's done a wonderful job." Yankees' Marcus Stroman walks back starter-only stance: ‘Open to anything'
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — New York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman has changed his mind about reconsidering his role with the club. The right-hander said he would be open to pitching out of the bullpen when he returns from the injured list after declaring that he wouldn't do it just a few months ago. Advertisement 'I'm open to anything,' he said after making his first rehab start at Double-A Somerset on Wednesday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark. With the Yankees in Kansas City, Stroman threw 3 1/3 innings, striking out four, walking two and giving up one hit and one earned run. He threw 46 pitches and touched 89 mph several times with his sinker, though he appeared to throw all of his pitches. Stroman has been on the IL with left knee inflammation since April 12. He said the problem is the ACL that he tore in college. 'There's a bunch of a little mess going on there,' he said. 'I don't really even like to talk about it at this point. It just is what it is. It's 10 years removed on an ACL.' Stroman added that he had a cortisone shot and a nerve blocker. 'It was something that I was feeling walking around,' he said. Nice ovation for Marcus Stroman, who went 3 1/3 innings, striking out four with two walks, a hit and one earned run. Threw 46 pitches. Touched 89 mph a bunch with the sinker. — Brendan Kuty 🧟♂️ (@BrendanKutyNJ) June 11, 2025 Stroman said he had been dealing with a 'crazy deep throb' and 'ache' in his knee, which has improved of late. He said he expected to feel soreness Thursday morning, but that he's learning to deal with it, and that he expects to make another rehab start next week. 'Way more confident position with my knee now than I was,' he said. It's unclear what kind of role the Yankees may have for Stroman when he returns. They have a full five-man rotation with Ryan Yarbrough lately emerging as a viable fifth starter after they moved on from veteran Carlos Carrasco. Righty Luis Gil, who played catch at Somerset on Wednesday, is also working his way back from the injured list and could return sometime around the All-Star break. Gil won the American League Rookie of the Year last year. Advertisement In spring training, there also didn't appear to be a spot in the rotation for Stroman, but then ace Gerrit Cole had Tommy John surgery, Gil strained his lat and Clarke Schmidt had right rotator cuff tendonitis. Stroman wound up making three starts before going on the IL, posting an 0-1 record with an 11.57 ERA. Stroman said he hasn't spoken with the Yankees about his expected role yet. 'Just very open to whatever it may be,' he said. Stroman had financial motivation to remain a starting pitcher going into the season. His $17-million option for 2026 would have kicked in if he pitched 140 innings this year. It's now virtually impossible for him to reach that mark this season. In February, he shot down talk of him potentially going into a relief role. 'I'm a starter,' he said at the time. 'I won't pitch in the bullpen.' Now, things have changed. 'I think everybody who has been a starter would want to be a starter,' he said. 'I think that's just natural at this point. I don't think anybody who has had a career like I've had starting would just voluntarily say … you know. But obviously we have an incredible team, you don't know how the season's going to play out. There's always a bunch of things that happen. So, yeah, I'm looking to get back to 100 percent, which I feel pretty close (to). Build my pitch count and take it from there.'

Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera hopeful he can return from fractured left ankle
NEW YORK (AP) — Less than a month after undergoing surgery on a fractured left ankle, Oswaldo Cabrera is still hoping to return this season to help the New York Yankees. 'They told me that it's a small possibility,' Cabrera said before the Yankees concluded a three-game series against Cleveland on Thursday. 'That is a small possibility, but a small possibility that I trust that one. So I'm a very optimistic guy that feels like good things can be on my way. So we're going to work to get back soon.' Cabrera has his left leg elevated on a scooter and is in a walking boot. He said he will use the scooter for at least another month before starting to walk with the boot on. Cabrera underwent surgery May 15 and manager Aaron Boone said at the time it was unlikely the utilityman would return this season. 'I don't think we're necessarily expecting it but you never know how he heals and the next couple of months,' Boone said. 'I know one thing with Oswaldo: I know there's not a better person out there who loves all this as much as him and I know he's going to pour everything into the rehab process and healing, and we'll see where we are as it unfolds.' Cabrera was carted off the field after getting hurt on an awkward slide in the ninth inning of New York's 11-5 victory over Seattle on May 12. He scored on Aaron Judge's sacrifice fly and was injured when he reached back for the plate. Cabrera had a brace put on his left ankle before entering the ambulance on a stretcher. Cabrera was taken to a hospital with team athletic trainer Tim Lentych and was visited by several teammates, including Judge and Anthony Volpe. Cabrera is in his fourth season and has become a regular in the Yankees' lineup. He is hitting .243 this season with one home run and 12 RBIs. Stanton could begin rehab assignment shortly Giancarlo Stanton, sidelined all season because of pain in the tendons in both elbows, could start a rehab assignment next week. Stanton is participating in live batting practice and other baseball activities at the team's complex in Tampa, Florida. He will remain there for the rest of the week before the Yankees decide on the next step. Stanton began taking swings on the field April 22 in Cleveland and also faced rehabbing reliever Jake Cousins in a live session last month. Stroman throws again Marcus Stroman, out since April 12 because of left knee inflammation, threw about 40 pitches in live batting practice after also doing so over the weekend at Dodger Stadium. 'He looked sharp,' Boone said. 'Talking to him as he walked off the mound, said he felt good physically. We'll see how we get through this in the next couple of days and see what's next for him.' The Yankees said on May 11 that Stroman experienced discomfort in his knee after throwing a live batting practice session in Tampa. Stroman hasn't pitched since allowing five runs in two-thirds of an inning against the San Francisco Giants on April 11. He was 0-1 with an 11.57 ERA in three starts before going on the injured list. Boone also reiterated that the Yankees are building him back up to be a starting pitcher. 'That's the plan but we want to start stacking these days,' Boone said. 'I feel like the last 10 days or so we've started to get through some of the knee stuff. So it's about building him up to start.' ___ AP baseball:
