Indonesia Open: Pearly-Thinaah miss out on title after going down to world number one pair
A major title continued to elude the country's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, as their maiden Super 1000 title hopes were dashed after falling to world number one pair, Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning from China, during the Indonesia Open 2025 final at Istora Senayan here, today. In a fierce 87-minute match, the world number four seeded pair lost 25-23, 12-21, 19-21 in the tournament after putting up a strong fight, including winning the first set. The unseeded pair managed to bounce back from an 8-14 deficit in the opening set to secure a 25-23 victory, but the opponents' dominance in the subsequent two sets saw Pearly-Thinaah fail to maintain their momentum. Currently ranked fourth in the world by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Pearly-Thinaah tried to recover from deficits multiple times, but the Chinese pair managed to maintain their advantage until the end. After the match, Pearly explained that there was still much to learn and improve to enhance their performance, especially their 'mindset,' despite playing with high spirits. 'We were actually in a good position, we should have been able to finish the match with an advantage. But towards the end, maybe we lost a little focus. 'Actually, from the beginning of the game we already felt tired, but we reminded each other to keep fighting, because this was the last match. We just wanted to give everything we had on the court,' Pearly added. Meanwhile, Thinaah said they would use the time this month to fully rest and recover their energy as there are no major tournaments coming up soon. This defeat sees Pearly-Thinaah once again become runners-up in Jakarta, after also reaching the final of the Indonesia Masters earlier this year. However, their consistent performance strengthens their reputation as one of the main contenders in the women's doubles event at the world level.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun no longer inconsistent
KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun seem to have weeded out the inconsistency in their game with a string of world class performances this year. Inconsistency used to be the root of their problem until new national men's doubles chief coach Herry IP came in with his changes. Wei Chong-Kai Wun have now become more lethal, thanks to better workrate and mental toughness The world No. 7 won the Indonesia Masters in January, but lost in the first or second rounds in the next four tournaments. However, Herry's tactical changes started bearing fruit at the Malaysia Masters where they stunned their illustrious compatriots Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the final three weeks ago. Last week, Wei Chong-Kai Wun were unlucky to lose to eventual champions Aaron-Wooi Yik in the Singapore Open quarter-finals. Pearly-Thinaah Reach Indonesia Open Final After Big Win
JAKARTA: National women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah advanced to the final of the Indonesia Open after defeating fifth seeds from China, Li Yi Jing-Luo Xu Min, in their semi-final match on Saturday. The pair, currently ranked 4th in the world, displayed composure in the deciding set, overcoming the 6th-ranked Chinese duo with excellent play and solid communication, before finishing with a 21-12, 17-21, 21-11 victory. They also received strong cheers throughout the 64-minute match from the hostile crowd in the arena at Istora Senayan, Central Jakarta. 'We are very happy because we managed to change the rhythm of the game to our advantage. We supported each other and communicated well, which greatly helped our win today,' said Pearly. The pair also expressed satisfaction but believe there is still much room for improvement heading into their second final appearance in Indonesia. No Senayan heroics for Wei Chong-Kai Wun this time
KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun's heroics at the Istora Senayan were not enough this time. They fell 21-18, 12-21, 21-18 in the Indonesia Open semi-finals to homesters Sabar Karyaman-Moh Reza Isfahani, the world No. 8, on Saturday. The world No. 7 Malaysian pair lost narrowly in an hour.
