Former Purdue basketball star Zach Edey charged with reckless driving back in Indiana
LAFAYETTE — Police say they stopped former Purdue basketball star Zach Edey on May 1 driving 101 mph in a 55 mph zone on Indiana 25 in southern Tippecanoe County. Edey's northbound Kia Sorento passed the Indiana State Police trooper's southbound vehicle at 7:03 p.m., according to a probable cause affidavit. When the trooper caught up to the speeding car, Edey turned eastbound on Tippecanoe County Road 700 South and stopped. Edey has an initial hearing at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Tippecanoe Superior 6 on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. Edey, 23, of Memphis, told police he was trying to pass a vehicle as an explanation for speeding. Insider: Zach Edey left Purdue as one kind of big man. Chesterton, Indiana police shooting under investigation by state police
Indiana State Police are investigating a shooting by a police officer in Chesterton Friday morning. State police posted on social media that they are investigating an officer-involved shooting near State Road 49 and the Indiana Toll Road as of shortly after 10 a.m. No further details were immediately offered by state police, though they said they would be releasing more information in a news conference in the near future. How many people were involved in the incident was not immediately known, nor was information about injuries to either civilians or officers. This is a developing story. Theft charges filed on Indiana State Trooper
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — An Indiana State trooper faces charges of theft, obstruction of justice and fraud following a lengthy investigation. Investigators with the Indiana State Police began an investigation in mid-October 2024 into allegations of theft against Andrew G. Kocsis, 39, when contacted by an alleged victim of theft. Kocsis has been an Indiana State trooper since 2008 and most recently has been assigned to the agency's General Headquarters in Indianapolis, a statement from Indiana State Police reads. Special Prosecutor James D. Luttrull, of Marion, was assigned to this case and on June 16, charges were filed in St. Joseph County Superior Court. Probable cause was found for charges of theft, Level 6 felony, obstruction of justice, Level 6 felony, and fraud, Class A misdemeanor. Kocsis has been given an initial court date of July 8. Kocsis will be placed on administrative leave without pay until the conclusion of the criminal proceedings and an internal investigation, ISP stated.

1 person killed in fiery crash after police pursuit in Hammond, Indiana
One person is dead after a fiery crash after a police pursuit on I-80/94 at an exit ramp in Hammond, Indiana. Indiana State Police confirmed Munster police were chasing the car when the driver hit a bridge support column while leaving the Cline exit ramp. The impact of the crash caused the car to burst into flames. One occupant of the vehicle died on the scene. Indiana state police said it is unclear why Munster officers were pursuing the car. Indiana State Police team up with INDYCAR's Felix Rosenqvist for recruiting campaign
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana State Police (ISP) are teaming up with NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver Felix Rosenqvist as part of a new recruiting campaign. According to a press release from Indiana State Police, the campaign is based on the message 'we meet you where you are,' as troopers will be traveling alongside Rosenqvist to future races to connect with potential recruits. The partnership will also showcase the ISP brand to a national audience by placing an ISP logo on Rosenqvist's helmet that can be seen through onboard driver-view cameras. Indy 500-themed welcome center nearing the finish line Rosenqvist also wore a helmet featuring the ISP logo during the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 in May, where he finished 4th overall. Palou, drivers honored during 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 victory banquet 'I'm honored to represent the Indiana State Police,' Rosenqvist said. 'The qualities that define a strong race team—teamwork, discipline, and leadership—are the same values that define the ISP.
