Piers Morgan reveals he turned down big money reality TV show just last week – saying ‘my parents would disown me'

PIERS Morgan has revealed that he turned down a big money reality TV show just last week. Journalist and presenter Piers, 60, admitted that if he went on the show his "parents would disown" him. 5 5 Piers is no stranger when it comes to reality TV, appearing on Celebrity Apprentice in 2008 and as a judge on both America and Britain's Got Talent. But there is one show in particular which is off the cards for the broadcaster. Speaking on the Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth podcast Piers revealed that he turned down a huge reality TV show just last week. Speaking on the latest episode of the pod he says of his parents: 'One thing they always said to me was 'Don't ever do the jungle, I'm A Celebrity', I always remember this and last week I got a call from ITV 'Could we tempt you to do the jungle?' 'And I went 'There's actually not enough money at ITV to get me to go in that jungle because my parents would disown me'. That for them was the red line. ' 'So you won't ever see me munching kangaroo testicles, I'm afraid.' I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here sees a star-studded line-up swap their luxurious lifestyle for Bushtucker trials in the Australian jungle. The famous faces are put through trials and torment as they battle it out to become Queen or King of the jungle. Back in 2022 Piers asked for £5million to do the famous TV show fronted by comedy duo Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly. He was previously asked if he was planning to follow in Matt Hancock 's footsteps who shocked the nation when appeared on the show in 2022. Piers told The Sun at its Who Cares Wins awards: "I would rather shoot myself slowly with a slow moving bullet that corroded through every bone in my body before it finished me off than go into the jungle with people like Matt Hancock. "My parents have actually said to me they would put up with anything - and I've put them through a lot - but not the jungle. "It's a step too far. That's their red line. I'd get disowned." Piers fuelled rumours he'd finally been persuaded to sign up to the gruelling reality show on X (formerly known as Twitter). He tweeted: "Like I said, £5million and I'll come and munch kangaroo testicles. Not a penny less." 5 5 5

EXCLUSIVE Major shake-up for new season of I'm A Celebrity Australia as insider reveals why Channel Ten will 'NEVER cancel the series'

In a first for the Aussie edition of I'm A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!, Channel 10 is pulling the plug on its beloved live format. The entire 2026 season is set to be pre-recorded in South Africa this November and aired in January to kick off the network's summer programming slate. And according to well-placed insiders, the shake-up has sent shockwaves through the local entertainment industry. 'This is a game-changer,' a network source told Daily Mail Australia. 'For years, the live element has scared off bigger names. Now that it's all pre-recorded, suddenly everyone wants in - we're talking names we never thought we could get.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The move has lifted the pressure on nervous celebs fearful of 'cancellation in real time', giving producers more control over the chaos that unfolds in the jungle. 'Live TV can be brutal. Now there's room to finesse things in the edit - ramp up the drama, clean up the awkward silences, and make sure no one's career gets torched before the final credits,' the insider added. The format switch isn't being driven by budget cuts either - despite whispers around the industry pointing fingers at Ten's looming Big Brother reboot and cost-shifting. 'If anything, this frees up cash to actually chase some proper A-listers,' the insider said. 'Not just someone who walked down the aisle on Married At First Sight five years ago and everyone completely forgot about.' And Ten has form when it comes to pulling surprise names out of the hat. Over the years, The Masked Singer has featured a string of international stars, from La Toya Jackson and Brian Austin Green to Charlotte Crosby, Destiny's Childs' Michelle Williams, and even Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton. 'There's definitely a hope that if we start landing bigger names, other platforms might take notice - streaming, international syndication, you name it,' one well-placed TV exec told us. But the reality behind keeping the show on air may come down to something far more practical - quotas. Under Australian media laws, all commercial networks are legally required to ensure at least 55 per cent of the content broadcast on their primary channels is locally made - a rule reaffirmed by the federal government in 2020. 'Honestly, I'm A Celeb is just cheap and cheerful content that ticks the box,' the source explained. 'It helps Ten meet their local content quota during a period when ratings don't matter. Unless they find another show that's just as budget and easy to churn out, I don't see it going anywhere.' The upcoming series is expected to begin filming in South Africa in November, with a slightly shorter post-production window allowing Ten to air the full season from January – right in time to kick off their 2025 line-up. Channel 10 has been approached for comment.

Patti Newton set to make shock TV comeback on huge Aussie show - but her return to screens all depends on her troubled son Matthew

Australian showbusiness royalty Patti Newtown is said to be being courted by Channel 10 for the upcoming 12th season of I'm a Celebrity!... Get Me Out of Here! The 80-year-old, who is recovering from a recent full hip replacement, is reportedly seriously considering a short stint in the South African jungle for a plum offer of between $180,000 and $200,000. Producers of the Logie-nominated TV series, co-hosted by Julia Morris and Robert Irwin, are said to have set their sights on the beloved widow of Bert Newton after veteran stars Kerri-Ann Kennerly and Denise Drysdale proved a ratings hit. 'Patti Newton was actually invited to take part in the first season in 2015,' an anonymous insider told Woman's Day. 'But at the time, with husband Bert still alive and her family commitments taking priority, she gracefully declined.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'She's in good health, up for an adventure and, if the deal's right, she could be ready to pack her bags!' the insider added. However, the mum-of-two and grandmother-of-six will not budge on one particular stipulation - her US-based son Mathew, 48, is off-limits. I'm a Celebrity! has proved its staying power as a popular reality format—thanks to its unique blend of celebrity drama, challenging trials and relatable human interactions. Viewers are drawn to the spectacle of pampered celebrities facing unusual hardships, but more so the nuanced, and often surprisingly profound, conversations the stars have amongst themselves. 'The deal is close but with some important boundaries in place. Patti's made it clear that if she heads into the jungle, she won't be talking about Matthew,' the source told the magazine. Matthew hasn't been home to Australia in years, and did not return for the funeral of his late TV legend father in 2021. The Looking for Alibrandi star has been enjoying a quiet and anonymous life in Austin, Texas, with his wife Catherine Schneiderman. He relocated to the US after a series of highly-publicised scandals, including domestic violence allegations from two former girlfriends, Australian actresses Brooke Satchwell and Rachael Taylor. Stipulation or no, signing Patti would be a massive win for Ten. Producers are quietly confident they will be able to land Patti and are beginning medical assessments to work out which challenges will be safe for the 80-year-old to undertake. Speaking to Daily Mail Australia in 2021, Patti said the Australian press were 'just desperate to find a little glitch into (Mathew and Bert's relationship'. She also hit out at cruel reports Bert was estranged from their son when he died. 'I've had so many conversations with him,' she said at the time. 'We had a conversation last night and all the family were here. (The media) want to make it a rift, but there was no rift. There was never a rift with Bert. 'All that baloney about Matthew's devastating childhood - I mean, I have two children, Lauren and Matthew both had the same childhood. They both had a wonderful childhood.' Lauren and her two children were seen arriving at the family home to comfort Patti after the news broke. 'Lauren was more placid and easier to get along with, but there was never any major dramas or anything,' she said. Patti said she and Bert had stood firmly behind Matthew during his darkest days in 2006 when he was charged over an assault on his then-girlfriend. 'The major dramas were when Matthew was in Sydney and he had his major dramas, but it was really nothing to do with us and as most parents say: "you can only be there for your children". And we've always been around,' she said. 'And Bert more than me really. He was always saying "have we spoken to Matthew, have we done enough and have we said enough".' Patti said she flew to Sydney to support Matthew during his various court appearances. The matriarch renewed her showbiz career as a way to cope with the loss of her beloved husband, who died at the age of 83.

Scarlett Moffatt 'set to sign up for I'm A Celeb All Stars' as TV star prepares to head to South Africa 10 years after winning the show

Scarlett Moffatt is reportedly planning her return to TV and is in talks to join the All Stars version of I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here! The Gogglebox star, 34, was crowned Queen of the Jungle back in 2016, so her appearance on All Stars would mark her tenth anniversary of winning the show. Filming is set to start in South Africa later this year with a source telling The Sun: 'Scarlett won I'm A Celeb in 2016 and was hugely popular with viewers, so everyone's really excited she might be returning for the new All Stars series. 'She is so game for a laugh and knows what to expect in terms of the Bushtucker Trials, so she'll throw herself into every task. 'Scarlett is a mum now and she wants to do it to show her little boy how brave she can be.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. MailOnline have contacted Scarlett's representatives and ITV for comment. It was revealed in February that Ant and Dec would be returning to host another All Stars series. A source close to the production revealed: 'It did well last time and while they can't do it annually, they wanted to do another.' The first series featured a star-studded lineup of former contestants, including boxing champion Amir Khan, Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan, TV presenter Carol Vorderman and Olympic athlete Fatima Whitbread. Series six runner-up Myleene Klass was crowned the winner after defeating series 16 campmate Jordan Banjo in the final survival trial. A spin-off of the original I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, the special is filmed in Kruger National Park, South Africa, where celebrities take on various challenges in a basic, luxury-free camp. Unlike the original format, however, the all-star series does not allow viewers to vote for contestants to face Bushtucker Trials. Instead, the campmates battle it out for the title of 'Legend,' departing from the traditional crowning of a Jungle King or Queen. The I'm A Celebrity… South Africa special garnered strong viewership, with an average of 5.5 million viewers tuning in per episode. The news comes after Scarlett shared a powerful message on body confidence as she showcased her incredible dance skills during a ballroom competition at the weekend. The TV personality previously took to Instagram to share a video of herself dancing with a pal during the contest, in which she expressed how much fun she was having on the dancefloor. However, Scarlett then re-shared her video on Sunday where she encouraged others to not let their appearance or age stop them from doing what they love. Alongside the clip, which sees her beaming with joy while dazzling in a neon green gown, Scarlett penned: 'I've said it once I'll say it a million times. DO NOT let your shape, size or age stop you from doing something that brings you joy. 'Don't let that silly inner sabotage voice tell you ya won't be able to do it. Don't tell yourself I'll do it when I'm thinner, when I'm fitter or when a,b or c happens. Do it now!' The former Gogglebox favourite continued: 'I can't tell you how much joy dancing in two finals with my childhood friend has made me this weekend. I was thinking of nothing but the sheer joy that dance brings me, I hope I can encourage one more person to do the same.'
