More info Edinburgh is known for its watering holes - from fancy upscale bars to dodgy boozers. Nearly every street in the city boasts somewhere to drink, leaving locals and tourists alike spoilt for choice. The 1990s in particular saw new pubs and bars opening up across the city. However, nothing lasts forever and the places we once thought of as Edinburgh institutions have closed down, changed hands or been demolished, leaving only fond - or, in some cases, blurry - memories. The Volunteer Arms (Image: Edinburgh Pub History) Memorialised in a scene from Trainspotting, the 'Volly' as it was known to locals was a Leith Walk staple but was gutted by fire in 2012. It's since reopened as The Mouse Trap, but although the cocktails and pinball machines are a nice touch, we can't help but feel a pang of nostalgia for the Volly. 2. Jekyll and Hyde This themed bar was a Victorian goth-fest inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel. Part mad scientist's lab, part cocktail bar, you even had to push past a fake bookcase to get to the gents. These days it's the Hanover Tap. 3. Bianco's Such an Edinburgh fixture that it even ended up in an iconic Tennant's advert in the 1990s where a beleaguered London commuter dreams of being back in Scotland. More of a classic 90s wine bar than a good old-fashioned boozer, it's now Angel's Share. 4. Iguana Now the Paradise Palms, before that it was Assembly and then Bristo Bar and Grill. But before that we had Iguana. They did an excellent beer and some of the best potato wedges known to mankind (especially the hungover version). 5. Dell Inn This Slateford pub was demolished earlier this year, although by then it went by the Blue Goose. Locals remember it as somewhere with a child-friendly beer garden and really good crisps. 6. Scruffy Murphy's An Irish pub with cheap drinks and good food, this Melville Place watering hole was a good place to watch football before it shut down. It won the Edinburgh Evening News pub of the year in 1999. 7. Diane's Pool Hall After 31 years, this Morrison Street institution closed its doors in 2017 seemingly overnight. Regulars who showed up for their usual 20p pool game were disappointed to find that Diane McNair had sold the *ahem* lively spot which often hit the headlines for the fights that broke out rather than the pool games or the beer. Still a classic, though. 8. Sportsters These days it's swanky bar Brewhemia, but real Edinburghers will always know it as Sportsters. With an impressive range of drinks and 30 TV screens, there was something for everyone. Assuming you liked sports, otherwise you were out of luck. 9. Rutherfords Once the drinking den of Sir Walter Scott, Rutherfords got a makeover in the 00s and became bar and restaurant Hispaniola. We reckon Walter would have liked the new look, though. 10. Auld Toll A classic Edinburgh boozer, full of old pictures and faded, comfortable pub furniture, the Auld Toll is now hipster watering hole The Blackbird. We'll always have a soft spot for the original. 11. Caledonian Ale House This was the first port of call for knackered travellers who just wanted a quick pint before heading home. The pub was sadly demolished as part of the Edinburgh Trams construction in the 2000s. 12. The Spiders Web Now quirky gin bar The Jolly Botanist, this pub has gone through multiple rebrands over the years, but to many locals this Morrison Street drinking spot will always be The Spiders Web. 13. Amicus Apple This bar is now the Boozy Cow, serving all your alcoholic milkshake needs, but back in the day it was a low key but cool bar perfect for pre-drinks before a big night out. 14. The Elm Bar Now Jeremiah's Taproom, this lively pub was a Leith Walk staple until 2013. 15. The Holyrood Tavern Now Holyrood 9A, in our hearts this will always be one of Edinburgh's best pubs for metal-heads, goths and fans of real ale alike.

Heat over main roster comments Shortly after the event, Mr. Iguana appeared on Línea Directa TV and made headlines with bold claims about his future. He stated that WWE officials told him he would skip NXT and head straight to the main roster due to his surging popularity and top-selling merchandise. He even mentioned a meeting at the Performance Center with Shawn Michaels. Despite the backstage backlash, WWE reportedly still sees major upside in Mr. Iguana. WrestleVotes Radio noted that company officials consider him a strong marketing asset, especially with younger fans. With WWE's King and Queen of the Ring tournament approaching, speculation has begun about Mr. Iguana's next move. A tweet from Sheamus reading 'take all my money' further fueled rumors of the luchador's potential involvement in the tournament or a bigger storyline debut. Despite the backstage heat, WWE officials reportedly remain high on Mr. Iguana's potential. His charisma, kid-friendly appeal, and strong merchandise sales make him a valuable asset. While his remarks about skipping NXT raised eyebrows, insiders believe the buzz around him is too big to ignore. There's speculation that he could make a surprise appearance in the upcoming King of the Ring tournament or be introduced gradually through backstage segments. However, Mr. Iguana may need to tread carefully and regain trust behind the scenes to ensure a smooth rise on the main roster. WWE Teases Giving Fans More Of Mr. Iguana
Mr. Iguana didn't headline WWE Worlds Collide, but he most certainly made a huge impact at the co-produced event. AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion Mr. Iguana introduced himself to the WWE Universe at Worlds Collide when he partook in six-man tag team action. Iguana's unique gimmick and undeniable charisma was evident the moment he arrived on the scene. Advertisement It seems WWE wants to give fans more of the lucha libre sensation after they gave Mr. Igauna his own video package during Monday night's RAW broadcast. The promo featured Iguana in spectacular action from the six-man tag team match at Worlds Collide. WWE may have big plans for Mr. Iguana following his Worlds Collide performance Mr. Iguana was undoubtedly the biggest star of the six-man opener at WWE Worlds Collide. He got a huge ovation during a cameo at Money in the Bank this past Saturday. But will we see more of the AAA star in a WWE ring? WWE announced the bracket for the Men's King of the Ring Tournament last night on RAW. Sami Zayn punched his ticket to the semi-final by winning the first round fatal four-way match that also featured Bron Breakker, Dominik Mysterio and Penta. Advertisement The next round match-up for RAW will take place next week. Sheamus, Rusev and Bronson Reed have already been announced as the three participants, with the final opponent yet to be announced. Fans have speculated that it could be Karrion Kross, or some said this could be a good spot for Mr Iguana. Report: Backstage Reaction To Mr. Iguana's Appearance At WWE Worlds Collide
AAA star Mr. Iguana took the world by storm on Saturday at WWE Worlds Collide. In the opening contest of WWE Worlds Collide, Mr. Iguana teamed up with Octagón Jr. and Aero Star to defeat Lince Dorado, Dragon Lee, and Cruz Del Toro. However, the match itself wasn't the story. His reaction from the WWE Universe was, and it caught the attention of those backstage. Advertisement According to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), Iguana's reaction didn't go unnoticed by those backstage. The decision was quickly made to bring him to the Intuit Dome later that night for Money in the Bank. Mr. Iguana got another huge response from the WWE Universe as he sat in the crowd for the Money in the Bank premium live event. A source within NXT informed Sapp that they would be pushing for him to appear on Tuesday nights in the future. Iguana also impressed higher-ups at WWE, informing Sapp that he was a pleasure to deal with. It's worth noting that in addition to his reaction, his t-shirt on WWEShop reportedly sold very well too. Mr. Iguana Says He's Going Straight To The WWE Main Roster
Following the WWE and AAA's Worlds Collide Special Event, the professional wrestler to have garnered a lot of popularity is one-half of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions, Mr. Iguana. His team emerged victorious by defeating the Lucha World Order. During a recent interview with Línea Directa TV, Mr. Iguana revealed that he will not be competing in NXT. Rather, he will be heading straight to the main roster. Advertisement 'Tell them nothing because I'm already here. I am literally here. Yesterday, I was at the NXT Performance Center in Orlando, and I was told, 'You're not coming through here, you're going to the main roster.' I posted a picture yesterday with Shawn Michaels, and he said we need you here because you're the best-selling t-shirt this week and the fastest rising star on the cards, and all since Saturday. Since Saturday, I feel like the adrenaline hasn't stopped. It's every kid's dream to be in WWE. I am busy currently, but for my hometown, I will have all the time in the world because thanks to them, to be culichi (from Culiacan), and to be from Sinaloa, I would not be where I am now,' Mr. Iguana said. [H/T It is to be noted that the AAA star has made a couple of appearances on NXT Television. It's also worth noting that WWE has not confirmed his status, despite recent teases of featuring him more.
