One UI 8 could give screenshots an HDR glow-up that was missing from betas
Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung is testing HDR screenshot support for One UI 8 with its latest closed beta (ZYF7) release. The feature likely relies on Android 16's embedded gain maps to show true HDR imagery when viewed correctly. HDR screenshots aren't yet available in the One UI 8 Beta 2 release, but may arrive with future open betas or the stable release. Samsung will be bringing Android 16 to its devices with the release of One UI 8. The beta program is live for the Galaxy S25 series, and we're already at the second beta release. Samsung also has an internal test track that runs ahead of the open beta, and thanks to these test builds, we have now learned that the company could be bringing support for HDR screenshots. With Android 16, Google has implemented support for true HDR screenshots. Screenshots of HDR content will be saved in HDR format, namely as PNG files with HDR gain maps embedded in them. Viewing these screenshots will brighten the screen to allow the HDR highlights to pop. These gain maps enable the screenshots to appear as HDR when viewed on Android 16 devices but as SDR on other devices. Leaker Ice Universe mentions that the latest One UI 8 ZYF7 build (available in the closed beta but not yet in the open beta) includes support for HDR screenshots. The leaker installed the update on their Galaxy S25 Ultra and took a screenshot of an HDR photo they saw on social media. To Google and Samsung's credit, the screenshot retains the HDR effect of the original image. I saw it on social media, and took a screenshot and put it in my gallery. It still retains the HDR effect of the original photo. However, it is… By the way, Samsung S25 Ultra One UI 8 ZYF7 (Android16 feature) supports screenshot HDR. This is an HDR photo of OPPO Find X8 UltraI saw it on social media, and took a screenshot and put it in my still retains the HDR effect of the original it is… — ICE CAT (@UniverseIce) June 20, 2025 The leaker notes that HDR screenshots is a new feature of the ZYF7 closed beta firmware and is not available in the One UI 8 Beta 2 (ZYF3) release. While there's a good chance this feature will be included in the next open beta release and the stable One UI 8 release, there's still a small probability that it will not. We're crossing our fingers to see HDR screenshots in the stable One UI 8 update when it launches alongside Samsung's next-generation foldables in the coming weeks. Got a tip? Talk to us! Massive Samsung leak tips Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 features — here's what we could see at Unpacked
Samsung's next foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, are likely to launch in the next month. With that leaks and rumors are still popping up sharing new claims about what we can expect from the Korean tech giant. While it's not specifically a list of specs, regular tipster PandaFlashPro posted on X a number of features that Samsung might showcase during the expect July Galaxy Unpacked event. Read on for five things Samsung could highlight next month from an improved camera to better AI. Apparently, Samsung is going to spend a good chunk of the next Unpacked discussing Google's Gemini AI model and how it integrates with the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. One of the highlights could be "Gemini Live," which lets you speak with the chatbot. You can also use your camera to "see" things or images and files as prompts for Gemini. Gemini and Gemini Live already exist for Pixel phones and in some manner on the Galaxy S25 series. It's possibly we could see new Gemini tools built-in to Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7. If nothing new is announced than we expect Samsung will likely pitch how well Gemini Live should work on its foldable phones. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Additionally, the leaker claims Samsung will highlight Galaxy AI generative edits and Now Brief, introduced in One UI 7 that sends you personalized notifications throughout the day. According to PandaFlash, Samsung won't be sharing too much about the camera set up on the new phones. However, they do note that there will be a 200MP main camera that Samsung should highlight. This does align with previous rumors that the Z Fold 7 will get the same 200MP lens as the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. That's a major upgrade over the 50MP camera in the Z Fold 6. Alongside a new camera, Samsung will apparently discuss a next generation Pro-Visual engine and "log video." It's not clear if this is an update to the suite of AI tools that enables things like zooms at night and making sharper images. Samsung has highlighted how much thinner and lighter its phones are this year and the foldables will not be an exception. The company should also discuss the "all-new" ultra-thin glass used in the display. Earlier this month, Samsung promised, "the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet." Like the Z Fold 6 compared to its predecessor, the Z Fold 7 should come with a larger 8-inch foldable display, plus a 6.5-inch cover screen. That would be the second year in a row that the company has increased the size of the foldable. Late last week, regular Samsung leaker Ice Universe posted on Weibo that the Z Fold 7 will weigh 215 grams (or about 7.5 oz) which is about 3 grams less than Galaxy S25 Ultra (or one ounce less). That weight should be more noticeable compared to the Z Fold 6, which weighs 8.4 oz (239 grams). There are different rumors about the actual thinness of the Z Fold 7 with some claiming it will be 4.5mm when unfolded. However, different reports suggest the phone will be even slimmer at 3.9mm. According to PandaFlash, don't expect much from Samsung regarding the clamshell foldable Z Flip 7. They said that the Samsung will only mention improved photo quality, a larger cover display and new cases. We've seen rumors that the Flip 7 could have the same cameras as those in the Z Flip 6. So any improvements will likely come from the upgraded ProVisual engine and other software updates. We have seen rumors that the main screen will increase slightly in size with the cover display leaping from 3.4 inches to 4 inches. Which would fit with new cases being announced to properly cover the larger phone. Last week, a rumor popped up that Samsung would show Project Moohan at the next Galaxy Unpacked, but not launch the XR headset. Since revealing the Android XR based headset in January, Samsung has repeatedly shown off Moohan at various other tech conferences this year. So, it's no real surprise that Samsung would have Moohan at its own event. The difference, we're hoping, is that the company finally shares more concrete details about the device. While we've gone heads-on, Samsung has been pretty mum on new details. We don't have a date yet, but all signs point to Samsung keeping its usual July launch window for its foldable phones.

Samsung's next big leap in camera tech may take longer than you think
Referential image of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. | Image credit — PhoneArena Samsung might not bring any major camera hardware upgrades to its flagship phones until the Galaxy S28. That's according to a (now deleted) claim from reliable tipster Ice Universe, who says the Galaxy S26 and even the Galaxy S27 Ultra could stick with the same camera setups as the Galaxy S25 true, this would mean Samsung is skipping over meaningful hardware changes for at least the next two generations. One of the main reasons is said to be the company's focus on making its phones thinner and lighter. That design choice reportedly limits how large the camera sensors can be, making big hardware improvements difficult to implement. It's a move that matches Samsung's recent direction. The Galaxy S25 Edge , for example, focused heavily on its slim and light design. But this somewhat came at the cost of innovation in the camera department, especially as other brands continue to upgrade their sensors and optics. The report also mentions that Samsung's decision might be tied to internal financial strategy. With the company's chip division struggling to turn a profit despite major investments, the mobile division is reportedly under pressure to cut costs. Holding back on expensive hardware upgrades could help boost profit margins, with Samsung expected to rely more on software and AI to promote camera features. This stands in contrast to earlier speculation that Samsung might be developing a modular camera system. A recently discovered patent suggested the company was exploring attachable lenses, possibly with a built-in rotating ring for manual zoom control. That rumor sparked excitement among fans hoping for something more ambitious, but the latest report suggests that idea may not happen anytime soon. Samsung's patented idea for a modular camera lens design. | Image credit — Samsung Even the Galaxy S27 Ultra is said to be skipping big hardware changes. If this report holds true, the Galaxy S28 might be the first model in years to receive a significant camera now, these are still unconfirmed details, and plans can always change. It's possible that shifting market trends or increased competition could push Samsung to rethink its strategy sooner than expected. While some users may appreciate thinner phones, many others continue to value improvements in camera quality and battery life. It remains to be seen whether Samsung's software-based approach can keep up with Apple and other Android brands that are putting more focus on hardware upgrades.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 leaks just tipped launch date, specs and colors
All eyes may be on the just announced Galaxy Z Fold Ultra, but don't forget about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. We just got a bunch of leaks related to these two foldables centering around their possible release dates, specs and color options. Just days ago, rumors pointed at Samsung keeping the prices for its foldable phones unchanged — while today's leak indicates that the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 could launch on July 10. This date is what reliable leaker Ice Universe has shared, but there's debate around it because of time zone differences between South Korea and the east of the U.S. Regardless, this date lines up to the timeframe that a report mentioned back in late April. Additionally, other leaks give us more detail around the Galaxy Z Fold 7's storage and color options. The leaks from WinFuture and tipster Arsène Lupin indicate that the base model would be accompanied by 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with two additional options: 12GB RAM + 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM + 1TB about Galaxy Z Fold 7 colors? The new foldable is tipped to come in black, blue, coral red and silver. Galaxy Z Flip78+128GB12+256GB12+512GBBlue ShadowWhite BlackJune 3, 2025 For Sammy's flip-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the leaks report that it'll come with 8GB or 12GB of RAM — with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options. Color options could include black, blue and coral red. Interestingly, there's also mention about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, which rumors have been painting as a low cost alternative. In fact, it's tipped to be equipped with only 8GB of RAM and in either 128GB or 256GB storage capacities. While it's shocking to fathom a foldable phone packing 8GB of RAM, this could be one of the trade offs to get its price down to meet Samsung's target. Samsung's coming off the launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge and following up after Motorola's release of its Razr 2025 models, so a launch in July for its foldable phones would be enough time to get people excited about these new devices. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Stay tuned to Tom's Guide for all the latest rumors around the Galaxy Fold 7, Flip 7 and Fold Ultra.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 tipped for early July launch, but leakers can't agree on the date
Ryan Whitwam / Android Authority TL;DR A leak suggests the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 release timeline is the same as last year, indicating that it could launch on July 10, 2025. However, another leaker has disputed this date without providing any reason. As has happened with previous Galaxy Unpacked event date leaks, time zone differences could be a factor in the conflicting reports regarding the launch. We're gearing up for the launch of Samsung's next flagships, which will most likely come to us in the form of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. The company hasn't yet announced its plans for launching the devices, but we now have the first leaks pointing to an exact date. Mark your calendars, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could come on July 10, 2025, if you believe in this leak. According to noted leaker Ice Universe on Weibo, the Galaxy Fold 7's 'release time' is the 'same as last year.' Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 6 at a Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10, 2024. So if the information from this leaker is correct, we could see the company launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 on July 10, 2025. The leak doesn't directly address the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but we expect to see it at the same launch event. However, it seems the leak might not be correct. Another noted leaker, Max Jambor, disagreed with Ice Universe's leak on X, but did not offer more information. Ice Universe consequently deleted their X post, but their Weibo post still remains live. One possible explanation for this disagreement could be timezone differences. For the Galaxy S25 series, early leaks from South Korea mentioned a January 23 launch date, whereas Samsung launched the device on January 22, 2025, in San Francisco. Both dates are correct because of time zone differences between South Korea and San Francisco. Something similar could be happening here, too, which would explain why the post on Weibo (primarily intended for the Chinese audience) is still up, while the post on X (primarily intended for the Western audience) has been deleted, unless we are reading too much into the situation and it's something else entirely. Either way, we hope to learn more about the Galaxy Z Fold 7's launch date soon. We're keeping our fingers crossed for July 10, 2025. Got a tip? Talk to us!
