Government launches skill training programs in green energy and electric vehicles

New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): The government's Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Shell India have launched a Green Skills and Electric Vehicles (EV) training program aimed at equipping students and faculty with future-ready capabilities in green energy and e-mobility. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said in a release that the initiative will be implemented by Edunet Foundation, Shell's training partner, across select Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka on June 12, 2025. The release added under the DGT-Shell India collaboration, green skill training will be delivered through a structured multi-tier model across select NSTIs and ITIs. In the first phase, the program includes a 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at 4 NSTIs, a 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 ITIs equipped with Shell-supported labs, and a 50-hour foundational green skills module at additional ITIs without physical labs. Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT jointly developed the curriculum, which covers EV systems, diagnostics, battery technology, digital tools, and safety protocols. The initiative also includes Training of Trainers (ToT) for over 250 instructors, certification co-branded by Shell and DGT, and structured placement support to enhance industry readiness. A key highlight of the initiative is the establishment of specialised EV skill labs within select ITIs and NSTIs. These labs are designed to offer hands-on training and expert-led sessions aligned with industry standards. Beyond lab-based learning, the program also provides placement support and co-branded certifications to successful participants, enhancing their employability in the green energy and EV sectors. The Government of India has been actively advancing Green Energy and Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption in line with its net-zero ambitions. Flagship initiatives like the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme have played a pivotal role in accelerating EV uptake, enhancing infrastructure, and offering targeted incentives. Complementing these national efforts, states like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu have introduced their own EV policies to fast-track the transition to electric mobility, foster local ecosystems, and generate green jobs. These developments underscore the growing demand for a skilled workforce in the green energy and EV sectors. As the apex national body for vocational training, DGT will play a crucial role in this initiative by mobilising students and trainers and supporting the institutional ecosystem to ensure alignment with national education and skill development standards.(ANI)

Maharashtra To Train 1 Lakh Youths Yearly Through Home-District Apprenticeship

Last Updated: Officials say the decision will not only reduce the burden of relocation but also strengthen the connection between local talent and industries In a major boost for skill development and employment, Maharashtra's Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has directed that students from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) be provided apprenticeship opportunities within their home districts. This move is expected to help thousands of students gain hands-on experience while staying close to their families. Officials say the decision will not only reduce the burden of relocation but also strengthen the connection between local talent and industries. Students will now be able to work and earn a stipend through apprenticeship programmes in industries operating in their own regions. Under the Maharashtra Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, the state aims to train around one lakh candidates every year. Industries with 30 or more employees (including contractual staff) are now required to offer apprenticeship positions equal to 2.5% to 25% of their total workforce. Currently, the scheme covers 258 designated trades in 27 sectors and 414 optional trades in 35 sectors. In addition, 123 professions under the Maharashtra State Skill Development Examination Board and 20 others in six sectors have also been included. Depending on the trade, apprenticeship duration can range from 6 to 36 months. Both freshers and previously trained candidates will benefit from this initiative. To ensure quality training, government, semi-government, and private institutions are being encouraged to increase apprenticeship intakes. The curriculum of ITIs is also being reviewed regularly so more trades can be brought under this scheme. As per government norms, institutions offering basic training will receive the necessary reimbursements. Students have already welcomed the move. Many ITI students across the state have expressed satisfaction at getting a chance to learn and work without leaving their hometowns. Lodha is also actively working to restore apprentice recruitment in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Earlier, about 200 ITI students were appointed annually in BMC departments, but this practice had stopped in recent years. The minister has written to the BMC Commissioner to restart this initiative, and similar efforts are underway in other municipal corporations across the state. First Published:

Educational guidance cell set up at Tiruchi Collectorate for students

District authorities in Tiruchi have established a guidance cell-cum-control room on the Collectorate premises to help students decide on their options for higher education and increase enrolment. According to an official release on Monday, the education guidance cell will function under the auspices of the Naan Mudalvan Scheme. The cell would offer counselling on course choices to aspiring students and their families, besides candidates with disabilities, those living in refugee camps, and those from economically weaker sections of society. Applicants who want requisite certificates can approach the cell for assistance. Students who have not passed their higher secondary examinations will be helped to gain admission into job-oriented vocational training courses at polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), said the release. Students would be expected to join only those educational institutions that have been approved by the government. The cell will hold monthly grievance meetings for students in the first and fourth weeks until October 2025. For more information, interested persons may call 9788859038.

Shivaji Maharaj coronation day to be marked with lecture series at ITIs across Maharashtra

The lecture series will be inaugurated with a video message from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The aim is to instil patriotic values and national consciousness among students, he said. Mumbai, Jun 4 (PTI) Maharashtra minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha on Wednesday announced that a lecture series will be held across all Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state to mark the coronation day of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to be celebrated on June 6. Addressing a press conference at the Mantralaya, the Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minister said, 'This initiative is based on the theme of 'rashtrahit' (national interest) and will be conducted under the department's Panch Parivartan (five-fold transformation) mission. Topics such as family awareness, social harmony, environmental conservation, civic duties and indigenous thinking will be covered in the lectures.' Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Maratha empire, was crowned as king on the Raigad fort on June 6, 1674. Lodha also announced that six new advanced courses will be introduced in ITIs from the upcoming academic year. 'These are artificial intelligence (AI), industrial robotics, drone technology, 3D printing, electric vehicle technology and solar energy systems. These courses aim to provide students with global-standard training in emerging technologies,' he said. The department's new Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model has received a positive response from industry players. With over 1.2 lakh students enrolled in ITIs across the state, the new initiatives are expected to improve job prospects and bridge the gap between skills and industry requirements, Lodha said. HC upholds new recruitment rules for ITI jr instructor

Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court has dismissed a series of petitions filed by guest faculty instructors who challenged amended recruitment rules for 1,821 posts of junior instructor in govt-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The decision has cleared the way for the recruitment process to continue. The court upheld Rajasthan govt's decision to mandate National Craft Instructor Certificate (NCIC) under Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) as a necessary qualification. The court called it fair, legal, and consistent with Union govt's policy. The case stemmed from a notification issued Sept 1, 2023, followed by a recruitment advertisement on March 11, 2024, by Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB). The petitioners, currently working as guest faculty in ITIs, argued that the new requirement for NCIC was introduced without enough time for them to complete the year-long certification. They claimed the change was abrupt, lacked legislative backing, and conflicted with a Union govt office memorandum dated June 30, 2023. They also said the move violated their fundamental rights. Addl advocate general Vigyan Shah, who represented the Rajasthan govt, backed by the Union govt and the RSSB, argued that the new rules were lawful and aligned with national vocational training standards. The govt cited guidelines from the National Council for Vocational Training, which recommended the NCIC since 2014. The division bench of Justice Inderjeet Singh and Justice Anand Sharma concluded that Rajasthan govt had the authority to amend the recruitment rules. The court said the rules were not arbitrary, nor did they conflict with the Union govt's guidelines. It also noted that the rules provided flexibility in allowing candidates to obtain certification after selection.
