Man arrested for posting morphed video of CM

Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police has arrested a person from Rayagada district for posting an AI-generated and doctored obscene video of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on social media, informed the Odisha Police in an official statement on Wednesday. The police further noted that an alert citizen, after coming across the morphed and objectionable video of CM Majhi on social media, complained to the police seeking action against the culprits behind the mischief. 'A complaint was lodged by a citizen after allegedly coming across a morphed and objectionable video circulating on Facebook, targeting the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Odisha. The video shared from a Facebook page allegedly depicted the Chief Minister in an obscene manner. The complainant claimed the video was doctored and made viral with the deliberate intention to defame the Hon'ble Chief Minister, tarnish his image among the general public. It also hampered the dignity of a woman,' said Odisha Police. The Cyber Crime Unit of the Crime Branch immediately swung into action and started a preliminary inquiry into the matter. The police later registered an FIR based on the inquiry report and initiated an investigation into the case. The Crime Branch also wrote to Meta (formerly Facebook) requesting it to remove the objectionable content against CM Majhi from its platform (Facebook). 'M/s Meta Platform (Facebook) was requested for the removal of the objectionable content, which they duly complied with. Further investigation led to the identification of the Facebook account user as a native of Rayagada district,' noted the Crime Branch. The accused, identified as Kishore Kausalya, was subsequently arrested by the Crime Branch team on Wednesday. Kausalya hails from Keutaguda Station Sahi under Chandili police limits of Rayagada district. He works in a construction company in Tikri area of the district. 'He is liable for committing multiple criminal offences for publishing and transmitting an AI-generated, morphed obscene video,' informed the Crime Branch. The accused was arrested under sections 78, 79, 294, 296, 336(2), 336(4), 340(2), 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the sections 66-C, 67, 67-A of IT Act 2000 and the section 3 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986. He was produced before the SDJM court in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The Crime Branch has warned of stern legal action against anyone found indulging in such illegal acts. It also urged the netizens to remain careful about the content they post or share on social media.

ACB intensifies Formula E probe, seeks access to KTR's devices

Hyderabad: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), currently investigating alleged irregularities in the Formula E Race, has intensified its inquiry. Officials have instructed BRS working president K T Rama Rao to hand over his mobile phones and laptops to the agency by Wednesday. The BRS working president had previously undergone questioning by ACB officials just a day before, during which he was grilled for over seven hours. The interrogation primarily focused on payments made to the private company without the government's explicit consent. Now, on Tuesday, officials have formally requested the BRS leader's mobile phones and laptops. K T Rama Rao, who had publicly stated his willingness to attend the inquiry even if summoned a hundred times, informed officials that he would make a decision regarding the handover of his devices only after consulting legal experts. Meanwhile, the BRS party's social media convener, Y Satish Reddy, expressed surprise at the ACB's request for KTR's phones as part of the Formula E investigation. He suggested that this action appears to be taken under directives from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Reddy asserted that it is clear ACB officials requested KTR's phone because Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was overseeing the situation from the command control room and issued the order. However, he questioned why KTR should hand over his personal phones, arguing that the Formula E Race case was not a personal matter but a government transaction. He emphasised that the Formula E Race was organised with government permission and as per a cabinet decision. Satish Reddy further stated that the money paid to the Formula E Race Company was transferred from the government treasury through official bank channels. All matters related to the organisation of the race, he added, were conducted legally in accordance with government decisions and agreements. He then questioned why the agencies would need KTR's personal phone. According to Article 21 and the IT Act 2000, he claimed, there was no legal basis to request a personal phone number without a criminal case or a specific court order. By this action, he argued, the Revanth Reddy government was effectively admitting that the Formula E case was merely politically motivated and intended to politically harass KTR. He pointed out that all transaction documents were held by the government, and the Formula E Race had been a success, attracting investments and benefiting the state.

Parliament Panel Seeks Report On Action Against Social Platforms Over 'Anti-National' Content

A parliamentary panel has sought details from two key government ministries on the action they have planned against social media platforms over 'anti-national' content A parliamentary panel has sought details from two key government ministries overseeing information flow on the action they have planned against social media platforms and influencers who "seem to be working against national interest" following the Pahalgam terror attack. Parliament's Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology headed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has noted that some social media influencers and platforms in the country seem to be working against the interest of the country which is likely to incite violence, sources said. The Committee in its communication to the ministries of Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology has sought details of the "contemplated action taken to ban such platforms under IT Act 2000 and Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021". The letter, the sources added, has been sent to the respective secretaries of the two ministries and they have been asked to submit details by May 8. Several social media handles have been banned on different platforms after they allegedly posted content against national security interests. At least 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were gunned down by terrorists in Pahalgam on April 22, with India blaming terror groups linked to Pakistan for the horrific incident. In a post on X, Gokhale said, "To make it clear — the Parliament IT Committee has not said this. As a member, I have neither received any communication nor have I signed anything saying this." "Under Parliamentary Rules, a Chairman cannot issue any letter he wants without seeking approval of the committee. Parliamentary Committees are sacrosanct and should not be hijacked for political agendas," he said. Some influencers working against national interest after Pahalgam attack: Parliament panel

The Parliament's Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology has said that some social media influencers and social media platforms appear to be working against the interest of the country after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The panel, led by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, has sought details from two ministries overseeing information flow on the action they have planned against such influencers and platforms, according to PTI. According to sources cited by PTI, the letter has been sent to the respective secretaries of the two ministries, and they have been asked to submit details by May 8. Tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 persons, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. India has vowed to hunt down the perpetrators of the attack and has announced a raft of punitive measures against Pakistan, including suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down of the land border crossing at Attari and downgrading of diplomatic ties. The Central government has cancelled all types of visas granted to Pakistani nationals and closed Indian airspace for flights operated by Pakistan Airlines. In retaliation, Pakistan announced the suspension of all trade with India, including to and from any third country through Pakistan and barred Indian airlines from using its airspace. Pakistani forces have also been violating the ceasefire along the border continuously for the last 10 days. At a key security meeting after the terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the armed forces have full operational freedom to determine the mode, targets, and timing of India's response to the attack.
