Mizoram road density at 46.37km, below national avg: Lalduhoma
1 2 Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma on Friday said the state's road density stands at just 46.37km per 100sqkm, significantly below the national average of 116km per 100sqkm, highlighting a serious infrastructure gap. While inaugurating the 233rd mid-term council meeting of the Indian Road Congress (IRC) at the auditorium of the Mizoram University in Aizawl, Lalduhoma also emphasised the crucial role of road infrastructure in Mizoram, which currently has only one airport and a single railway line. He said the demand for road connectivity is rapidly increasing across towns and villages, as communities now consider roads a developmental priority. Given the state's challenging hilly terrain and high rainfall, he proposed that national highways in Mizoram be constructed using rigid pavement technology, which despite higher initial costs, offers lower maintenance requirements and greater long-term durability. Highlighting Mizoram's international border, he also proposed that national highways in the state be treated as strategic roads, strengthening both connectivity and national security. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like USDJPY đang đi lên không? He also urged engineers to avoid unnecessary road curves, premature reconstructions, and poor drainage practices. Instead, he stressed the importance of straight alignment, durable construction, and proper culvert installations to ensure safety, cost-efficiency and sustainability. Union minister of state for road transport & highways and corporate affairs Harsh Malhotra lauded the CM's vision and reaffirmed the central govt's commitment to supporting infrastructure development in the region. The event was also addressed by state PWD minister Vanlalhlana, IRC president Prof Manoranjan Parida and IRC general secretary Rahul Gupta, among others.

Yachting: Casiraghi triumphs in the Solent, Yacht Club de Monaco now eyes the Admiral's Cup
MONACO, June 18, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pierre Casiraghi has claimed victory at the helm of 'Jolt 6' in the British IRC National Championship, overcoming fierce competition in the challenging waters of the Solent. The regatta, held in Cowes as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations of the Royal Thames Yacht Club, marks a key milestone in the Yacht Club de Monaco's preparation for the 24th Admiral's Cup (17 July – 1 August 2025). Competing in the IRC 1 category, 'Jolt 6' outpaced a strong line-up. 'Winning this event in Cowes in typical Solent conditions, with an unstable 10-18 knot westerly, was a real challenge. The shifting wind and tidal current transitions made for a very tactical race, but our boat, quick in light airs, made the difference on key tacks,' said Casiraghi, YCM's Vice-President, who stood out against a field of professional helmsmen. The result confirms the strong momentum of the 'Jolt' project, spearheaded by YCM member Peter Harrison, and fuels the ambitions of the team ahead of the prestigious international competition organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC). The 2025 edition is set to feature 14 teams from 13 nations, including the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, and the New York Yacht Club, a three-time winner of the Admiral's Cup. Flying the flag of Monaco, Team Jolt will field two complementary boats: the TP52 'Jolt 3', helmed by Peter Harrison, and the Carkeek 42 'Jolt 6', skippered by Casiraghi. Both crews have been engaged for months in a structured programme of training and international racing. Casiraghi credited the crew's performance as decisive: 'I'd like to highlight the exceptional work put in by our cosmopolitan crew of ten sailors, including Ben Saxton on tactics, Will Harris on navigation and Joey Newton and Cole Brauer on trimming. Their precision was the deciding factor. Being the only non-pro helmsman against sailors like Dean Barker, America's Cup winner, is a huge motivation for me. Competing against them pushes me to give my very best.' 'Jolt 3' also delivered a strong performance: with Peter Harrison at the helm and Ed Baird on tactics, the TP52 finished third in the IRC 0 category, following its victory at the RORC Easter Challenge in April. 'This latest victory is an important step, but the level will be even higher for the Admiral's Cup, as there will be teams there very hard to beat. We must continue to train with rigour and determination to meet this new challenge,' Casiraghi concluded. His focus is now on building a tightly coordinated, responsive team capable of handling any scenario with clarity in communication and top-level technical execution. The preparation is aimed at mastering one of the sport's most demanding formats, which alternates between inshore and offshore races, culminating in the iconic Rolex Fastnet Race. The objective is clear: to reach the start line ready to compete at the highest level. Swanky Shilpa Layout flyover ready; cars set to zoom on new path soon
Hyderabad: The state-of-the-art Outer Ring Road to Kondapur flyover – Shilpa Layout Phase 2, which promises to ease the traffic woes of commuters in the IT Corridor, has been completed and is planned to be inaugurated soon. The flyover was constructed worth Rs 178 crore. On Tuesday, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan reviewed key safety features on the flyover, such as road markings and rumble strips as per IRC standards. The Commissioner ordered the engineering officers to install the rumble strips as per the IRC norms. He also visited the proposed inauguration site and instructed officials to expedite the final works, including road painting and Urban Biodiversity (UBD) plantation along the central median. The commissioner said, 'All civil work has been completed at the flyover, and only beautification and greenery work remain. The flyover, constructed from ORR to Gachibowli for Rs 178 crore, will soon be open for traffic.' The Commissioner was accompanied by Project CE Bhaskar Reddy, Deputy EE Harish, Zonal SE Shankar Nayak and others. Built under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), the six-lane flyover spans 1.2 kilometers and is 24 meters wide. It is the third-level flyover at the location, built above the existing Gachibowli Junction and Shilpa Layout Phase 1 flyovers. According to GHMC, its unique feature lies in being a third-level structure constructed atop two pre-existing flyovers. Below, the Gachibowli Junction Flyover, with the Shilpa Layout Phase 1 Flyover situated above it, and now the newly constructed Phase 2 Flyover has been added on top. The flyover will reduce the severe traffic snarls at Gachibowli Junction to a large extent. The new structure is designed to streamline traffic from the ORR towards Kondapur and Hafeezpet, reducing travel time and bypassing frequent bottlenecks at Gachibowli. It will also facilitate smoother travel between Kondapur and Shamshabad Airport, offering a more direct and less congested route to the Financial District and HITEC City. Later, the commissioner inspected various areas in Hafizpet. During the inspection, he instructed the officers to remove the waste under the Hafizpet flyover and make it suitable for sports. Furthermore, he instructed the officers to inspect the Eerla Cheruvu drainage diversion works and complete all pending works. The Commissioner was accompanied by Corporator Jagadish Goud, Zonal SE Shankar Nayak, Lakes EE Narayana, Deputy Commissioner and others.

NDMC plans to replace 6.5k road signage by March 2026
New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council will soon start replacing around 6,500 signage installed on its roads. The council has set March 2026 as the deadline to complete the Rs 19-crore project. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now An NDMC official said a tender was invited and some clarifications were sought from an agency. "As soon as clarification is obtained, the task will be awarded, and the process will start on the ground," said the official. Currently, many signage in the NDMC area are painted green, which is meant for highways as per the Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines. This leads to confusion and a lack of uniformity. According to the project plan, all signage will be designed through software to ensure uniformity and consistency. A presentation in this regard was made to the lieutenant governor earlier. "The changes are also suggested as many of these signage outlived their life and their reflector system needs renewal," the official said. The executive engineers of the road divisions earlier surveyed the existing signage. It was found that 6,439 signage were installed on roads, service lanes, etc. Further, an additional 80 new signage will be required for schools and 20 more for other places. The matter was discussed with senior NDMC officers, and to minimise the estimated cost, it was decided, among other steps, to utilise the stainless steel frames of existing signage. Currently, due to the involvement of multiple agencies in the management of the national capital, the signboards are also not uniform in shapes and colours. In New Delhi Municipal Council area, which is a smart city, the road signboards are in green in rectangular-triangle shapes and the signage outside buildings are blue in the same shapes. But according to experts, as per the codes of IRC, the signage inside an urban city should be on a blue-coloured background with the writing in white. Most of the agencies in Delhi are still following the rules set during the 2010 Commonwealth Games when most of the city signage were changed.
