Richardson Hitchins schools George Kambosos Jr and scores body-shot KO

Richardson Hitchins produced a clinic against George Kambosos Jr on Saturday to retain the IBF super-lightweight title, stopping the former world champion in round eight. American Hitchins comfortably outlanded Kambosos Jr in every single round, before dropping the Australian with a left hook to the body in the eighth frame. Kambosos Jr, who turned 32 on the day of the fight, made it to his feet but winced at the referee on the eight count and did not look prepared to continue boxing. As such, the official waved off the fight. With that, Hitchins kept his belt and his unbeaten record, moving to 20-0 (8 knockouts). Meanwhile, Kambosos Jr fell to 22-4 (10 KOs) and failed to add to his two world-title reigns at lightweight. Hitchins said in his post-fight interview in Madison Square Garden Theater: 'I've been telling the boxing world, I'm the truth. If you don't know, now you know. I've been telling the boxing world that I was coming, and they should've listened. So, now I'm here. 'I'd seen the fight with him and Devin Haney [who outpointed Kambosos Jr twice in 2022]. I knew that Devin Haney didn't really take it inside, and he was headhunting a lot when he did have him hurt. So, I said I'm gonna touch him with some short shots. 'When I did touch him with a short shot, I seen how he squinted, and I smelled blood, but I just wanted to keep punishing him. And I told his dad: 'If you love your son, you'll stop the fight.' So, he was tough. He was a true competitor, but I was just the better man tonight.' Hitchins, 27, was alluding to moments late in the fight, when he shouted at Kambosos Jr's corner. That followed an exchange between Kambosos Jr's father and Hitchins's trainer at a chaotic fight-week press conference. There, Jim Kambosos appeared to strike Lenny Wilson with a microphone, before Hitchins stopped his coach from throwing a chair. 'He's a hell of a fighter,' Kambosos Jr said after the bout. 'They're all great fighters, I chase greatness. I really believed in myself, but I just didn't have that timing. He was a little bit too good for me tonight.'

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 14: Richardson Hitchins, silver shorts, fights George Kambosos Jr. of ... More Australia, blue shorts, during a IBF world junior welterweight title fight at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on June 14, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by) Richardson Hitchins beat the brakes off George Kambosos Jr. on Saturday night at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden. In the process, the 27-year-old Hitchins successfully defended his IBF junior welterweight title handing Kambosos another crushing loss against the top fighters in the weight region. This fight was never really close as Hitchins prevailed via eighth-round TKO punctuated a spectacular display of boxing. 'This was an almost perfect performance by Richardson Hitchins in this title defense against George Kambosos Jr,' said Dennis Allen of CompuBox. 'Hitchins landed 205 of 398, 52% in total punches, 118 of 233, 51% in jabs and 87 of 165, 53% in power punches. He put Kambosos down with a body shot in the final round and the referee waved it off at the 2:33 mark.' The win pushed Hitchins' record to a perfect with 20-0 and 8 KOs. Hitchins was superior in his mastery of distance, he had faster hands and with the TKO, Hitchins showed the ability to stop an opponent which has been one of the biggest questions around his career. Kambosos has now been stopped in two of his last three fights and no longer appears to be the kind of fighter capable of competing with the upper-echelon fighters at 135 or 140 pounds. It's tough to imagine him getting a big fight the next time out. He's only 32 years old, but he's clearly seen better days in his career. As for Hitchins, he has long wanted to face and defeat Kambosos before setting up a unification fight with WBO champion Teofimo Lopez. Hitchins doubled down on that concept with Lopez joining him in the ring following the stoppage win. 'A few years ago, I was watching Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos Jr. go to war, and I was sitting on those stairs and I said when I get my opportunity, I'm going to make the best of it," Hitchins said after the fight. "With the help of Eddie Hearn and Keith Connelly, they changed my life in two years. In terms of the fight itself, I've been telling the boxing world that I'm the truth. If you don't know Richardson Hitchins, now you know. I've been telling the boxing world I've been coming. They should have listened and now I'm here.' 'George is a warrior but that's what you need if your Richardson, come out, step on the gas and dominate," said Matchroom's Eddie Hearn. Sometimes he would let that just coast for 12 rounds but he came out and dominated with a great performance. That is the statement he needed to mix with these guys. Great atmosphere, great performance from a great young American champion. Time for him to get the big fights.' A fight with Lopez could theoretically happen as soon as October. Lopez is coming off a unanimous decision win over Arnold Barboza last month, so the two men are on the same schedule. It's unclear who would promote the fight as Lopez's current alliances are unclear on that front. In any case, unification fights are good for the sport, so I hope to see it come to fruition.

(for Empire State Realty Trust) Uncrowned has Richardson Hitchins vs. George Kambosos Jr. live results, round-by-round updates, highlights, ring walks and start time for the Hitchins vs. Kambosos fight card on Saturday night at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. Hitchins makes the first defense of his IBF super lightweight title against the former unified lightweight champion Kambosos. Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) claimed the IBF title with a split decision win over Australia's Liam Paro this past December in Puerto Rico. Saturday marks the fourth consecutive headliner for Hitchins, but the first one in his home state of New York and his first as a world champion when he faces Kambosos. Advertisement Kambosos (22-3, 10 KOs) returns to The Theater at Madison Square Garden, the site of his massive upset win over Teofimo Lopez in 2021 to capture the WBA, IBF and WBO unified lightweight titles. The Australian lost his titles in back-to-back fights with Devin Haney in 2022 before rebounding with a controversial majority decision victory over Maxi Hughes. The win over Hughes earned Kambosos a shot at the IBF lightweight crown, but he was ultimately stopped by Vasiliy Lomachenko in May 2024. Kambosos made a successful debut at super lightweight with a unanimous decision over the late-replacement Jake Wyllie this past March and now looks to become a two-division champion. Advertisement In the night's co-feature, Andy Cruz (5-0, 2 KOs) — who won gold in the lightweight division at the 2020 Olympic Games and is regarded as one of the best amateurs in recent times — faces Hironori Mishiro (17-1-1, 6 KOs) in a final eliminator for the newly-crowned IBF lightweight champion, Raymond Muratalla. Elsewhere on the card, a trio of top prospects return to action, including the 2024 Olympic duo of Teremoana Teremoana (7-0, 7 KOs) and Nishant Dev (1-0, 1 KO), as well as Zaquin Moses (3-0, 2 KOs) — the cousin of Shakur Stevenson. Boxing financier Turki Alalshikh named India's Dev as a fighter he'd like to feature on the Netflix-streamed Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford undercard in September. Richardson Hitchins Vs. George Kambosos Jr: When Does It Start?

In a matter of hours, IBF super lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins will defend his title against former undisputed lightweight champion, George Kambosos Jr. The fight takes place inside the Madison Square Garden Hulu Theater in New York. Here are the particulars for this anticipated matchup. Here's what boxing fans and those watching the lightweight division need to know about the card and how to watch: Full Fight Card Hitchins is coming off a masterful performance in a unanimous decision win over Liam Paro in Puerto Rico in December 2024 to win the title. Saturday's fight will be his first title defense as he eyes an even bigger fight down the road—perhaps with WBO champion, Teofimo Lopez. I spoke to Hitchins after his win over Paro in an exclusive interview and he discussed prospects of fighting Kambosos and Lopez. Well, it looks like he got his wish—at least the first part. Things are up in the air as it pertains to Lopez whose relationship with Turki Alalshikh may not be in the best place. As for Kambosos, after shocking the world when he defeated Lopez via split decision in 2021, Kambosos has gone 2-3 with his wins coming over less-than-thrilling opposition (Jake Wylie in March and he won another world title with a win over the punch-less Maxi Hughes in July 2023). Kambosos was dominated twice by Devin Haney and he lost the IBF title to Vasyl Lomachenko via 11th-round TKO in what proved to be the legend's last fight in May 2024. If Hitchins cannot beat Kambosos, it will be a bad look for the 27-year-old looking to join the ranks of true needle-movers in the sport. If Kambosos loses, there will be little doubt that the 32-year-old is done competing at the highest level of the sport.
