Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom In The Fantastic Four: First Steps? What We Know

Last Updated: Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will officially kick off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps is coming soon, and excitement has grown after a recent public test screening in Los Angeles. Some believe the screening was held because the studio is unsure if the movie will connect with audiences. But soon after the screening, details about the movie's post-credits scene started appearing online. According to Super Hero Hype, quoting popular scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the scene shows Sue Storm (played by Vanessa Kirby) reading to her son Franklin, who is also the child of Reed Richards, played by Pedro Pascal. When she briefly leaves the room, she returns to find Doctor Doom sitting beside Franklin, holding his mask. The leak also says that Doom's outfit is 'very comic accurate." While it has already been confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will take on the role of Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), this post-credits scene does not show his face, as per the scooper. Chris Evans, who played the Human Torch in the 2000s Fantastic Four movies, may or may not appear in First Steps. The scooper said, 'I know for a fact he filmed something, so it was either cut or will be in the final version of the film." Chris Evans is better known as Captain America in the MCU, but he also played the Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). The post-credits scene of the last MCU movie, Thunderbolts* (also called The New Avengers), showed the team receiving a distress signal from the Fantastic Four's spacecraft. Because of this, many fans thought The Fantastic Four: First Steps would end with the destruction of the Fantastic Four's reality, which forced them to escape to the main MCU timeline. But based on the leaked details from First Steps' post-credits scene, it looks like the Fantastic Four will succeed in saving their world from Galactus. Doom's arrival and the possible kidnapping of Franklin might be what pushes the team to travel to Earth-616 to warn others. The film is set in a 1960s-style, retro-futuristic world. Alongside Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby, the film will see Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the role of Ben Grimm/The Thing. Together, they must stop Galactus (Ralph Ineson), a cosmic being who plans to devour the planet along with the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theatres on July 25 and will officially kick off Phase 6 of the MCU. About the Author First Published: May 30, 2025, 16:55 IST
