Watch This Early Release ‘Meow-velous' Dance Act on ‘America's Got Talent' Which is ‘Puurfect'
Watch This Early Release 'Meow-velous' Dance Act on 'America's Got Talent' Which is 'Puurfect' originally appeared on Parade. Last week it was the Osaka Philharmonic, this week it's Loco Pop Familia as the wacky acts from Japan continue to bless the America's Got Talent stage for its landmark 20th season. It was hello, kitty with lots of tail wags and paw poses when the 13-member crew from Tokyo took to the stage with a synchronized dance routine to Christell's 'Dubidubidu.' Dressed in black-and-white cat costumes with their faces made up with kitty whiskers and noses to continue the feline theme, the performance was the cat's meow. 🎬 🎬 Related: The video doesn't give any backstory on the group, nor does it contain the judges' comments, but we did see Howie Mandel smiling, Sofia Vergara getting her boogie on and Simon Cowell saying, 'This is good,' so it looks like they may have gotten at least three yeses to make it through to the Live Shows. Tune in on Tuesday night to get the verdict. America's Got Talent airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Young Singer Wins Over ‘AGT' Judges With Ed Sheeran Cover
Chase Varnes had a rough start on Tuesday night's episode of America's Got Talent, but the 13-year-old singer from Vancouver Island ended up delivering one of the most memorable performances of the season so far — thanks to a little help from Ed Sheeran. Varnes began his audition with an original song on acoustic guitar, but was quickly interrupted by judge Simon Cowell. 'I hate to do this,' Cowell said. 'I didn't love the song; however, I like you. Have you got another song?' More from Billboard Ozzy Osbourne's DNA Will Be Sold in Limited Edition Liquid Death Cans Kneecap Launch London Billboard Takeover Ahead of 'Witch-Hunt' Court Appearance Hatebreed Guitarist Exits Tour Following Diagnosis of Brain Tumor Without missing a beat, Varnes launched into a cover of Ed Sheeran's 'Life Goes On,' originally featuring Luke Combs, and instantly won over the crowd and most of the judges. 'You know, you remind me of a young Justin Bieber,' said Howie Mandel, referencing Varnes' Canadian roots and early busking background. The compliment made the teen visibly light up on stage. Sofía Vergara also applauded the performance, saying, 'I know it's nerve-racking to be on this stage, but I thought it was better the second song. Simon always knows how to stop it and make it better. I think the girls are gonna go crazy for you.' Mel B, however, had a more measured response. 'You were great. You were a diamond in the rough with so much potential,' she said. 'But I can see your nervousness. You're not quite there yet for me.' While Mel B gave him a 'no,' both Mandel and Vergara offered their yeses. That left Cowell to cast the deciding vote. 'Sometimes we have on people your age, and I'm like, 'Okay, I'll be sort of nicer because you're young,'' Cowell said. 'You, I actually do believe, that you have something… You've got everything going for you. The audience loved you, which is why you're gonna get three yeses.' Varnes' cover of 'Life Goes On' was a breakout moment on the night's episode, trending online alongside a series of cat-themed novelty acts — including a rapper named Moshow and a group called Loco Pop Familia, who performed dressed entirely as cats. America's Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Watch: Boston Dynamics' four-legged robots steal spotlight on ‘America's Got Talent'
From sword-swallowing magicians to singing dogs, there's been no shortage of bizarre acts that have turned up during auditions for season 20 of the popular reality television show 'America's Got Talent'. However, the bar for strange but spectacular performances was raised yet again last week when a group of four-legged robots appeared onstage to perform a synchronised dance routine to 'Don't Stop Me Now' by British rock band Queen. The robots named Spot were developed by US-based robotmaker Boston Dynamics. Their routine ran into a minor mishap with one of the five robots shutting down during the middle of the performance. However, all four judges of the reality show voted to advance the dance crew to the next round of the talent contest. Boston Dynamics' onstage act could be an attempt to make its bots go viral even as it supposedly struggles to sell the robots which are priced at an eye-watering $74,500. Spot is said to be the most advanced mobile robot in the world. It can be used to perform patrols and inspections. But it is more nimble than humanoid robots and lacks the physical strength required for tasks such as carrying packages or unloading trucks. At the end of their performance, judge Simon Cowell said, 'Can I be honest with you? I don't mean this in a cruel way. It was weirdly better that one of them died… because it showed how difficult this was.' 'So amazing. After 20 years, how can we see something we haven't seen on this stage? This is something we have never seen on this stage,' said Howie Mandel, another judge on the show. A few years ago, Boston Dynamics shared a video about how its robots are programmed to demonstrate its mobility like losing balance, falling, and getting up on its own. 'A natural consequence of pushing robots to their limit is that, sometimes, those limits are met,' Boston Dynamics wrote in a blog post at the time. Amid intensifying competition in the robotics industry, the company laid off five per cent of its workforce last year. 'We'll be singing / when we're winning.' 🔊 — Brian Heater (@bheater) August 17, 2021 It also permanently shut down Atlas, a hydraulic humanoid robot that was only intended as a technology demonstration. Unlike Spot and its warehouse logistics robot Stretch, Atlas was capable of carrying tools at a simulated construction site and doing actual work. 'For almost a decade, Atlas has sparked our imagination, inspired the next generations of roboticists, and leapt over technical barriers in the field. Now it's time for our hydraulic Atlas robot to kick back and relax,' the company said.

First Indian rock band on America's Got Talent is from Northeast
Growing up in Sikkim's Gangtok on a steady diet of gritty tunes and razor-sharp riffs by pioneering hard rock icons like The Eagles and Guns N' Roses and local rock talent like CRAB and Still Waters, members of the four-piece Girish and The Chronicles never concerned themselves with conforming to India's mainstream music scene — one that is often dominated by film music and represented abroad through Indian classical music. The band, instead, for the last 16 years, doubled down on a sound that was unmistakably rooted in classic Western hard rock and metal. But even for a band which built its identity on a genre far away from typical national temper and trends, they never factored in America's Got Talent: one of the most popular TV shows in the world. Their breakout moment on the show's Season 20 last week: a roaring performance of Adele's 'Set fire to the rain' in the audition round knocked the socks off of the frenzied audience and judges — Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, Howie Mandel and Mel B — not expecting an Indian rock band to perform actual hard rock. Just as the band flung itself into the pop song with distorted guitars and Girish's unhinged voice, all four were stunned, followed by an enthusiastic standing ovation and a resounding entry into the next round. 'The whole experience was surreal… it was electrifying… something we'll never forget. Years of touring, dreaming, and staying true to our sound led up to that moment. We're just incredibly grateful to be part of something this big, and to share a piece of our journey with the world,' said frontman Girish Pradhan in an email conversation with The Indian Express. 'You come from the other side of the globe and do something so traditionally American.. It was so beautiful,' said Howie Mandel on the show. On Friday last week, hot on the heels of their now viral performance with 1.7 million views, the Bengaluru-based band — comprising vocalist Girish, guitarist Suraz Sun, bassist Yogesh Pradhan (also Girish's younger brother), and drummer Nagen Nags – with their long tresses cascading behind and goatees that harked back to the 90s, sang a set at the Capital's newly opened The Piano Man. As if plucked straight from the golden age of rock 'n' roll and planted in the cosy live music venue, the band had those present flipping out as frontman Girish's soaring vocals pierced through with the song 'Rock n roll is here to stay'. With limbs pounding, someone from the crowd screamed, 'AGT winners'. Girish obliged by crooning the performance from the show. 'The outpouring of love and support we have received from across the globe has been overwhelming in the best way possible. It's a reaffirmation of everything we've worked so hard for, and a reminder of how far we've come,' said Girish. It all started when a producer from America's Got Talent reached out to Girish via Instagram, after seeing a soundcheck video he had posted from a show at Independence Rock Festival in Mumbai. 'That conversation opened the door for us to pursue AGT, and the rest followed naturally,' says Girish, who identifies the global perception of Indian music, which is traditionally centred around classical genres and Bollywood. 'But as a band, we never set out to fit into that mould. Coming from Sikkim, we were already on the periphery of the mainstream spotlight – and in many ways, that gave us the freedom to chart our own course…We're not trying to redefine what it means to be Indian. We are simply sharing our story,' says Girish. Girish and his younger brother Yogesh are the sons of Bimla Pradhan, a well-known Nepali folk and classical singer, and football commentator Shyam Pradhan, who was deeply passionate about music, and also the band's first manager, mentor and financier. While the brothers grew up with the traditional sound of folk music at home, they were soon drawn to Northeast's deep connection with rock and metal.
