Kim Woodburn's top cleaning tips - including '10 minutes a day'
TV star sadly died following a short illness aged 83, with the cleaning legend sharing her top tips on the Channel 4 show 'How Clean is Your House?' TV's tough-talking queen of clean, Kim Woodburn, famed for her role on Channel 4's 'How Clean is Your House?', has died aged 83 after a short illness. Alongside Aggie MacKenzie, she became well-known for scolding the proprietors of grubby residences with sharp wit and tough love. With her trademark plaited bun and no-nonsense attitude, Kim garnered legions of fans and shared invaluable cleaning advice for keeping homes spotless. Kim passed away following a brief illness, an announcement by her representative confirmed, and together with MacKenzie, she brought order to chaotic homes on their hit show, dispensing nuggets of wisdom throughout, reports the Express. Her former co-host reflected: "Kim was a tormented soul, but now she's finally at peace. We clashed often. Behind the fierce persona was deep pain and incredible strength. She survived because she had to. I hope she's resting now. She was an unforgettable woman." 'How Clean is Your House', which aired from 2003 to 2009, opened doors to literary and endorsement deals, and saw Kim appear in various reality TV series. In 2017, Woodburn entered the Celebrity Big Brother house and recently featured in E4's 'Celebrity Cooking School' in 2022. Confirming her passing, her manager said: "It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday following a short illness. Five cleaning tips in memory of the scrubbing sensation: Opt for the natural approach. She championed natural cleaning methods, and instead of using harsh chemicals she uses kitchen staples like baking soda and white vinegar. These items became synonymous with her advice over the years, thanks to their skin-friendly properties and less abrasive nature for domestic cleaning. Just 10 minutes every day. In a 2022 interview, the Queen of Clean emphasised the importance of daily maintenance to prevent your home from ending up like the ones on the telly: "10 minutes every day and you can keep everything manageable". She advocated for a 'little and often' routine, urging folk to dedicate just ten minutes a day or alternatively to "clean as you go". Focus on the kitchen. Woodburn stated that instant attention to messes and regular wiping of appliances is crucial in the kitchen. She particularly stressed wiping down the inside of your fridge every two months using a rag moistened with warm water and bicarb soda. "When you start going over that timeframe, by God, you're asking for trouble," she stated. Besides disposing of leftover food, it's crucial to carry out these cleaning tasks to prevent drawing flies or even worse – attracting the attention of pets. Opt for a damp duster. This technique captures dust effectively and prevents it from scattering throughout your dwelling. Once finished, let it air dry and then give it a good shake outside or toss any collected debris into the rubbish bin. Lay down the rules when having a party. In regards to throwing a house party, Woodburn's advice was succinct: simply don't have one. To her, a gathering signified nothing but dirty troublemakers causing chaos in her cleansed space. Nonetheless, if you chose to overlook her cautionary words and proceeded with your plans, her directive remained straightforward. Before the festivities commence, declare: "This is what's going to happen. I love you, but if you're not willing to adhere to these rules, mate, you can't come."

Kim Woodburn, the domestic goddess who got Britain scrubbing and organising their homes died yesterday, age 83. Along with friend Aggie MacKenzie, she pioneered the TV genre with How Clean Is Your House? The pair would don their rubber gloves and go into the most disgusting homes to help out the owner with Kim's catchphrase 'scrub dear, don't tickle.' Becoming a beloved television star was not really on the cards for the young Hampshire girl. She was brutally honest about her incredibly difficult childhood and how she overcame them to become one of TV's highest paid presenters. Born Patricia McKenzie in Eastney, Portsmouth, just before the end of the Second World War she was physically abused by both her mother, Mary, and father, Ronald. Kim said: 'I have no memory of him ever kissing me or holding me in his arms like I saw other dads doing with their children. 'He never once sent me a card on my birthday or a note to say he was missing me. 'My mum didn't really care very much. I was the youngest of two daughters and my mother, who drank a lot, made it clear she preferred my sister Gloria to me. 'My mother's favourite expression was, 'If I'd known what you were going to be like, I would have sent you back'.' As she grew older she learned her father was a serial womaniser who 'had a reputation for being as randy as a butcher's dog.' He then started sexually abusing her. She said: 'My dad was a Royal Marine and a rough and naughty man. 'He'd have a touch of the old naughty bits with me when he could get away with it. I was very young and I remember my mum used to beat me with the carpet brushes. 'I never told her, I didn't know how to. When I was a little girl, we didn't discuss that.' Kim went on to star in a number of shows including I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2009 and Celebrity Big Brother in 2017. She also regularly appeared on ITV's Loose Women and This Morning. Her husband posted a sweet video on Instagram this morning, captioned: "My wonderful, beautiful, Kim passed away last night. God bless, my love, xx xx." Tributes have today flooded in for the reality TV star who was a "force of nature". Speaking on today's This Morning, Nick Ferrari said: "I was thinking those two [Kim and Aggie Mackenzie] in a way, they were sort of the almost like the female equivalent of The Hairy Bikers . "They were so genuine - you could see the bond between them. "The fact that they were so true shone through to the viewers, and I think that's why they were regular genuine folk behaving in that fashion, and that's why people like them. Very sad news ." Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard rounded off the segment by saying: "It was a light that burnt very brightly and very strongly at times, was our Kim Woodburn." X Factor legends Jedward said: "Rest in Peace Kim Woodburn you will forever be our Celebrity Big Brother Friend! "We grew up watching you and to share those memories together you will be truly missed for the TV gold you created for all generations." Talent agent Craig Johnson-Pass wrote: "Thank you for all the amazing, fun, wonderful times. You weren't just a client you were a friend. Will miss you Kim, fly high." Her death comes weeks after cancelling work commitments due to health concerns. Kim had been offering personal video greetings to her loyal followers for £25 a pop after also selling clips on the Cameo platform. But earlier this month she told her social media followers: "No more videos for now, my loves, I need to get better!" A post on her Instagram account read: "We regret to tell you that Kim is unable to record any further videos for the foreseeable future , due to a health problem. "Kim sends her love to you all." She also recently went Her last video was posted on Valentine's Day . She said cheerfully: "Hello my loves! My time with Kim Woodburn proved her gay icon status
'If I'm lucky, I might have another 10 years on the earth. Do you think I'm going to waste 10 years putting up with s**tbags?' Whatever you might say about Kim Woodburn, one thing is certain, she was always true to her word and lived life her way. Woodburn died at the age of 83 yesterday following a 'short illness', leaving behind one of the most unique legacies in showbiz. Calling Woodburn a 'reality TV icon' doesn't do her justice; she was something so much greater – especially to the LGBTQ+ community. I briefly worked with Woodburn when she became Metro's I'm A Celebrity columnist in 2022. There was absolutely no one else I wanted for that column; if she didn't do it then it simply shouldn't go ahead. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Few celebrities are as unfiltered as Woodburn and even fewer want to come across unfiltered in their columns. There was more than one occasion when we could not run her exact words without the threat of legal complaints, and I remember her insisting to my reporter that every scathing word that came out of her mouth made it into print. As an editor, that's exactly what you want. She was simply brilliant and a rarity in entertainment now, which is so cautious and dry, its golden years are so far behind us. I'll truly miss Kim Woodburn. She was the most badly behaved class act I've ever come across and the gay community hasn't just lost a meme-queen, it's lost a true ally. This is especially true when fearless voices such as hers are becoming increasingly hard to come by. My admiration of this national treasure began 22 years ago when How Clean Is Your House launched. I was 15 at the time and would do anything to avoid housework (I'm still the same) but Woodburn was unlike anything I'd ever seen on television before. Reality TV in its inception was sexy, fun, and scandalous – it wasn't two women cleaning poo from the bottom of a loo. More than 22 years since How Clean is Your House launched, fascination in Woodburn never died. But it was when she was snapped up for I'm A Celebrity in 2009 that a star – and gay icon – was really born. She was exceptional. She was a drag queen in jungle gear; rarely would her conversation not turn to 'bonking', and if she wasn't talking about sex she was scolding her sexless campmates. She came second that year, losing out to Gino D'Acampo, but that didn't matter. She'd become a TV giant in her own right. And when it seemed her brightest days on television were behind her, she was about to become a true national treasure after she single-handedly became the most disruptive Celebrity Big Brother housemate of all-time. Her relationship with the LGBTQ+ community was an unlikely marriage, but one that has genuinely enhanced the lives of so many gay people I know since she erupted at everyone and everything in the Celebrity Big Brother house. I have no doubt she was impossible to live with, but as a viewer, she was impossible to miss. She was camper than anyone I've ever known. For context, Woodburn had to be removed from the house temporarily when a row broke out over who had the toughest life to-date. You could disagree with Woodburn on the correct way to eat a chocolate digestive and seconds later security would be called in. Eventually, it got so out of hand that while being dragged out of the house by guards, she told footballer Jamie O'Hara: 'I wouldn't s**t on you if you were on fire… You're an adulterer that two-timed your wife and she's got three kids!' Once she was embraced by the LGBTQ+ community with open arms, she embraced them back – proud in her allyship and making numerous appearances in queer spaces – and who could possibly want fighting your corner more than Kim Woodburn? To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video If you've seen the moment she was set up on Loose Women for a 'reconciliation' with Coleen Nolan and took on the entire panel without breaking a sweat, you'll see what I mean. Even if she had the delivery of a bull in a china shop, she always stood by her convictions and, for me, that's what integrity is all about. Right now, seeing that same level of integrity is becoming increasingly rare. Celebrities and politicians who once gave LGBTQ+ people their word that they'd always have our backs, marched with us at Pride or declared 'trans right are human rights' are now too scared to stand by us. She may not have always got it right, like appearing on GB News to discuss same-sex changing rooms and declaring 'a man's a man' and a 'woman's a woman'. Of course, this wasn't a great move and she was – quite rightly – called out for it at the time. I do honestly hand in heart know that she would not have intended to upset the LGBTQ+ community and knowing that she had would break her heart. She responded to critics: 'I will always be an ally to the community and would never say a bad word about any of you. I am very disappointed in those who have deliberately misinterpreted what I said. You are horrible horrible people.' More Trending Her impact on pop culture, particularly gay pop culture, is practically unrivalled when it comes to reality television in the UK. There isn't a day that goes by when I don't see a Kim Woodburn clip being thrown around social media. That impact was best celebrated on the very first series of Drag Race UK by its eventual winner The Vivienne. Viv did an impression of Woodburn for RuPaul and was a stroke of genius, capturing every single inch of Woodburn's unapologetically ferocious charm with impeccable precision. Viv died at the beginning of this year, with Woodburn among the many mourners at their funeral. She may not have been someone you wanted to cross, but she too was the first person to laugh at her absurdity. I hope, and know, wherever she is now she's giving some 'chicken-livered s**t' what for and I am gutted we're not there to watch it happen. Do you have a story you'd like to share?
