See South Africa like never before: Honor 400 and Honor 400 Pro capture breathtaking views with AI SuperZoom camera
The Honor 400 and Honor 400 Pro set a new benchmark in mobile photography, bringing distant cityscapes into stunning, high-definition focus. South Africa just got its first close-up look at the new Honor 400 and Honor 400 Pro. Judging by the immediate reaction, it did not disappoint. The series was launched at the Kyalami Racecourse in Midrand. Here, the unveiling of the Honor 400 and Honor 400 Pro brought together tech, creativity and speed in a way that hit home for local users. But behind the fanfare and flashbulbs, one feature stood out, AI SuperZoom. It's the kind of innovation that quietly shifts how we take photos. More than just digital zoom, it's a smart system that brings detail forward without the blur. Whether you're photographing Table Mountain from Sea Point, trying to capture elephants from a safe distance in Pilanesberg, or zooming into the lights of the Jozi skyline, AI SuperZoom turns moments that were 'too far' into visual gold. And that's just the start. Here's 7 things that instantly change when AI SuperZoom lands in your hands. 1. You'll zoom in on life like a cinematographer Suddenly you're not just snapping photos. You're framing scenes. With 30x zoom on the Honor 400 and up to 50x on the Honor 400 Pro, you can capture a saxophonist on Long Street from across the road or spot a lion lazing in the shade at Kruger without needing a heavy lens or perfect timing. 2. You'll spot details you've walked past for years That weathered signage above the Fish Hoek café you've never noticed. The distant hilltop ruins outside Clarens? With AI SuperZoom, the camera doesn't just zoom – it finds meaning in the margins and turns the unnoticed into something worth sharing. 3. You'll become the friend who gets the shot At the rugby? On the beach? Or in the back row at that Amapiano festival or back of the stadium waiting to see that winning penalty converted. Whichever corner it's scored – you'll know instantly. AI SuperZoom means you're not just part of the moment; you're capturing it properly. Whether it's a seven-year-old's big moment on the school stage or a DJ mid-spin, distance no longer limits quality. 4. You'll start trusting zoom again For years, smartphone zoom has meant blur, noise and disappointment. Honor's AI SuperZoom changes that. It sharpens intelligently, enhances lighting and balances detail without you needing to touch a thing. The result? Zoomed photos that still feel like your vision, just closer. 5. You'll create moving memories without editing Snap a photo, then let AI Image to Video turn it into a dynamic clip. From a still frame of Constitution Hill or a portrait shot at dusk in Maboneng, you can generate a short, cinematic video with a tap. It's instant, social-ready and a real storytelling flex. 6. You'll reclaim the past with AI Upscale Got that old, printed photo of your Gogo at the Union Buildings in 1965? Use AI Upscale to restore it digitally, eliminating scratches and adding clarity. What used to be a memory trapped in fading paper becomes a high-res moment you can share with your family WhatsApp group. Take that bow. 7. You'll stop saying 'I'll edit it later' With AI Erase Passers-by and SuperZoom working in real time, your phone starts handling edits as you shoot. No more background clutter. No more cropping after the fact. The photo you wanted is the one you get, straight out of the camera. Paired with a 200MP Ultra-clear AI Camera, features like AI Image to Video, AI Erase Passers-by, and AI Upscale, the Honor 400 Series feels less like a phone and more like a creative toolkit built for the streets, skylines and stories of Mzansi. It even gets closer to the all-round value Mzansi wants – with a 5300mAh battery, 66W SuperCharge, a 5000nit Ultra Bright Display and intelligent tools running on MagicOS 9.0. Whether it's your city, your culture or the people around you, this is a lens that brings everything into focus – a creative companion for Mzansi in every beautiful daily detail. While I haven't personally tested the phone, the specifications speak volumes. Our tech expert, Jamie Harris, reviewed a similar model in his Honor Magic 7 Pro review. He described its camera as producing the best photos he'd seen. If that's anything to go by, the 400 Pro should deliver on that front too, as it features an almost identical camera setup. The icing on the cake here is those freebies included with your purchase, including an Honor smartwatch, wireless speaker, and earbuds, all at no extra cost. While these bundles are clearly designed to attract buyers, you can't deny the value of free gadgets, worth over £400. Plus, the included tech is genuinely worthwhile, so it's a win-win for anyone looking to upgrade their phone. Among the available plans, the 500GB data option for £26.99 per month stands out as the best deal. It comes on iD Mobile, which operates on Three's network, and the upfront cost is just £9. Weekly poll results: Honor 400 Pro is promising, but it and the Honor 400 can use a price cut
Last week's poll shows that the Honor 400 Pro has hope of success, but the vanilla 400 just doesn't have the feature set to compete. The poll also shows that people are getting irritated by having global models that feel second rate compared to the ones available in China. The Honor 400 Pro has a good number of fans as it is and a positive review can make it even more desirable. It has already taken the first steps – its battery life is pretty good (if nothing stellar) and charge speed is a standout feature. But that's with only a 5,300mAh battery – we tested the European version. The rest of the world (sans China) gets a bigger 6,000mAh battery. And the Chinese model? That one has a whopping 7,200mAh capacity despite being smaller than the global model! The global 400 Pro has a 6.7' display, the Chinese one has a 6.55'. It's no wonder that people are getting irritated. The Honor 400 feels under-specced – good reviews can draw in some people, but the general conclusion is that you can get better hardware for the price with other models. If the global market got the Chinese model, we would be looking at the newer Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (instead of 7 Gen 3) and a huge 7,200mAh battery (instead of 5,300/6,000mAh). That would have made the 400 a much easier sell. The MSRP of both the Honor 400 and 400 Pro is fairly high. That said, commenters from several regions have checked in saying that they got a great deal with lower prices and even some freebies – that, of course, changes the equation. Honor 400 Pro review
The Honor 400 duo is now globally available and it offers plenty of nice perks. And while the jury is still out on which model - the Honor 400 Pro or the Honor 400 - should be the one to enter everyone's shortlists, we are going to explore the more premium Honor 400 Pro first. The Honor 400 Pro comes one year after the Honor 200 Pro, and it brings a more durable design, an improved display, a more powerful chipset, and better main and zoom cameras. The focus this year is on AI, of course, which Honor has taken to the next level with cool features like Image to Video, Outpainting, Cutout background, Open Eyes, and more. The Honor 400 Pro trumps the Honor 400 with faster hardware, a larger display, better durability, Wi-Fi 7 readiness, and a telephoto camera with 3x zoom. Those extra features cost over €250+, though. Honor 400 Pro next to the Honor 400 Indeed, the Honor 400 Pro introduces a durability level like never before - it is IP68 and IP69 rated for dust, water and high-pressure water jets resistance. It has also scored SCS's 5 stars rating for Premium Performance Certification of Drop & Crush Resistance. The phone packs a 6.7-inch OLED display with 1,280p resolution, 10-bit color depth, 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR certification. The Honor 400 Pro is powered by one of the best chips on the market - the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The cameras have always been a strong side of Honor and that is the case with the Honor 400 Pro. The rear camera kit packs a 200MP OIS primary (1x-2x), a 50MP OIS telephoto (3x-6x), and a 12MP ultrawide with autofocus. The front setup accommodates a 50MP selfie imager and a 2MP depth sensor. The Honor 400 Pro comes with a 5,300 mAh Si/C battery capable of up to 100W wired and up to 50W wireless charging. Reverse wireless charging is also an option. Honor 400 Pro comes with Android 15 and MagicOS 9, and you can expect 6 years of Android updates. It seems like Honor has thought of everything for the Honor 400 Pro, so we have no complaints at the spec sheet level. The price of €799 also seems reasonable for a flagship, especially when Honor is also giving freebies like Honor Choice Earbuds Clip headphones, a 100W charger and premium screen protection with one-time free screen replacement. Unboxing the Honor 400 Pro The phone ships in a thin white paper box. The bundle contains a USB-C cable and nothing else. In previous years, we used to get a charger and case, but not with this generation. The Honor 400 Pro arrives with a factory pre-applied protective folio on the display, which is expected. Page 2
