Home BancShares (HOMB) Could Be a Great Choice
Whether it's through stocks, bonds, ETFs, or other types of securities, all investors love seeing their portfolios score big returns. However, when you're an income investor, your primary focus is generating consistent cash flow from each of your liquid investments. While cash flow can come from bond interest or interest from other types of investments, income investors hone in on dividends. A dividend is that coveted distribution of a company's earnings paid out to shareholders, and investors often view it by its dividend yield, a metric that measures the dividend as a percent of the current stock price. Many academic studies show that dividends account for significant portions of long-term returns, with dividend contributions exceeding one-third of total returns in many cases. Based in Conway, Home BancShares (HOMB) is in the Finance sector, and so far this year, shares have seen a price change of -3.04%. Currently paying a dividend of $0.2 per share, the company has a dividend yield of 2.92%. In comparison, the Banks - Southeast industry's yield is 2.43%, while the S&P 500's yield is 1.59%. Taking a look at the company's dividend growth, its current annualized dividend of $0.80 is up 6.7% from last year. Home BancShares has increased its dividend 4 times on a year-over-year basis over the last 5 years for an average annual increase of 9.55%. Looking ahead, future dividend growth will be dependent on earnings growth and payout ratio, which is the proportion of a company's annual earnings per share that it pays out as a dividend. Home BancShares's current payout ratio is 38%. This means it paid out 38% of its trailing 12-month EPS as dividend. Earnings growth looks solid for HOMB for this fiscal year. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2025 is $2.29 per share, representing a year-over-year earnings growth rate of 13.93%. Investors like dividends for many reasons; they greatly improve stock investing profits, decrease overall portfolio risk, and carry tax advantages, among others. It's important to keep in mind that not all companies provide a quarterly payout. High-growth firms or tech start-ups, for example, rarely provide their shareholders a dividend, while larger, more established companies that have more secure profits are often seen as the best dividend options. During periods of rising interest rates, income investors must be mindful that high-yielding stocks tend to struggle. That said, they can take comfort from the fact that HOMB is not only an attractive dividend play, but also represents a compelling investment opportunity with a Zacks Rank of #2 (Buy). Why Home BancShares (HOMB) is a Great Dividend Stock Right Now
Getting big returns from financial portfolios, whether through stocks, bonds, ETFs, other securities, or a combination of all, is an investor's dream. But when you're an income investor, your primary focus is generating consistent cash flow from each of your liquid investments. Cash flow can come from bond interest, interest from other types of investments, and of course, dividends. A dividend is the distribution of a company's earnings paid out to shareholders; it's often viewed by its dividend yield, a metric that measures a dividend as a percent of the current stock price. Many academic studies show that dividends account for significant portions of long-term returns, with dividend contributions exceeding one-third of total returns in many cases. Based in Conway, Home BancShares (HOMB) is in the Finance sector, and so far this year, shares have seen a price change of 3.82%. The bank holding company is paying out a dividend of $0.19 per share at the moment, with a dividend yield of 2.72% compared to the Banks - Southeast industry's yield of 2.35% and the S&P 500's yield of 1.55%. Taking a look at the company's dividend growth, its current annualized dividend of $0.80 is up 6.7% from last year. Home BancShares has increased its dividend 4 times on a year-over-year basis over the last 5 years for an average annual increase of 9.55%. Any future dividend growth will depend on both earnings growth and the company's payout ratio; a payout ratio is the proportion of a firm's annual earnings per share that it pays out as a dividend. Home BancShares's current payout ratio is 38%, meaning it paid out 38% of its trailing 12-month EPS as dividend. HOMB is expecting earnings to expand this fiscal year as well. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2025 is $2.29 per share, representing a year-over-year earnings growth rate of 13.93%. From greatly improving stock investing profits and reducing overall portfolio risk to providing tax advantages, investors like dividends for a variety of different reasons. However, not all companies offer a quarterly payout. Big, established firms that have more secure profits are often seen as the best dividend options, but it's fairly uncommon to see high-growth businesses or tech start-ups offer their stockholders a dividend. Income investors must be conscious of the fact that high-yielding stocks tend to struggle during periods of rising interest rates. That said, they can take comfort from the fact that HOMB is not only an attractive dividend play, but is also a compelling investment opportunity with a Zacks Rank of #2 (Buy).
