Sharjah Islamic Affairs launches its summer program
One of the main offerings is a summer course for boys that focuses on Islamic studies and literature. It will be held in various mosques around the emirate from July 7 to July 24. During this course, experienced speakers will share important lessons about Islamic teachings and literature, helping young people deepen their understanding of these subjects. Registration opens on July 1. The course will cover key topics like the rules for cleanliness and prayer, explanations of certain chapters from the Holy Quran, stories from the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the importance of seeking knowledge, and basic Islamic values and ethics. Besides the lessons, there will also be fun activities to help students learn and engage. Another notable program is the second round of the Sharia course called "Hearts Attached to Mosques," running from August 1 to August 22 in various mosques. This course focuses on memorizing and understanding parts of the Holy Quran, discussing teachings from the Prophet's Sunnah, and exploring important topics relevant to young people, which will help strengthen their knowledge of Islamic principles and enhance their sense of belonging to the community. Additionally, the department will host a series of public lectures and lessons across all mosques in the emirate. These sessions will cover various important subjects, such as how to behave while traveling, making the most of summer vacations, strengthening family relationships, and keeping kids safe during their free time. These lectures highlight the role of mosques as places for guidance and personal growth in society. Moreover, there is an awareness initiative focused on social media. This will involve creating and sharing engaging content on family, education, behavior, and religious topics, aiming to reach a broad audience. The goal is to extend the reach of these important messages and improve the department's presence in the community across different platforms. Abdullah Khalifa Yarouf Al Sebousi, the Chairman of the Sharjah Islamic Affairs Department, underlined that these summer programs align with the vision of the Sharjah government to develop people's skills and provide a supportive environment that highlights values and identity. The department aims to encourage people to use their time wisely, investing in personal growth that benefits both individuals and society. He stated, "We want to make sure that vacation time is used in ways that are productive for everyone. Our programs are designed to be inclusive and to combine religious guidance, educational activities, and social media engagement. This supports our leadership's goals to promote human development and utilize modern technology to share useful information." Chairman's address: Reinforcing volunteerism In his address, Ahmed Ibrahim Al Mail, Chairman of the Social Services Department and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work, reaffirmed Sharjah's commitment—under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah—to promoting volunteerism and a culture of community giving. He highlighted that over the award's 22-year history, hundreds of individuals and institutions have been recognised for exemplary humanitarian and volunteer initiatives, helping to strengthen social unity and solidarity. Celebrating impact and innovation Al Mail praised the esteemed status the award has attained, noting its role as a prominent platform for celebrating innovation in charitable work, cultivating a sense of social responsibility among youth, and inspiring both public and private sector institutions to implement meaningful volunteer initiatives. Inclusivity and moral commitment He further stressed that the award encourages participation from all community segments, including persons with disabilities and the elderly. Jury Chairman's address For his part, Dr Abdul Aziz bin Butti Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work Jury, delivered a speech in which he emphasised the significant role volunteers play in strengthening community cohesion and solidarity. He noted that the 22nd edition witnessed widespread participation, revealing that the award received 292 applications, of which 142 were qualified. These applications were carefully reviewed, and the winners were selected with precision and transparency according to clear and objective criteria. This reflects the award's prestigious position in promoting the culture of volunteering and its lofty values in the UAE. Acknowledging support and encouragement The Chairman of the Jury expressed his sincere appreciation to the Board of Trustees for its ongoing support, which has played a vital role in the award's growth and success. He highlighted that this support reflects the Board's strong commitment to the award's mission and noble objectives. He encouraged all participants to continue their volunteer efforts and actively contribute to community service, wishing them continued success and distinction in this meaningful endeavour. Best Volunteer Opportunity Creator Award His Highness honoured the award's 14 different categories. In the Best Volunteer Opportunity Creator Award, Dubai Municipality won in the Government Institutions category for the "One Hour with a Cleaning Engineer" opportunity, while the Emirates Cancer Society won in the Non-Governmental Institutions category for the "Health Awareness Ambassadors Programme." Distinguished Supporter of Volunteer Work Award In the Distinguished Supporter of Volunteer Work Award, the Dubai Police General Command took first place, and the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi took second place in the Government Institutions category. Mohammed Issa Al Hammadi won first place in the Individuals category. Best Volunteer Initiative Award The Dubai Police General Command received the Best Volunteer Initiative Award in the Government Institutions category for its 'Establishing Protection Schools' initiative. In the Families category, the family of Mohammed Abdullah Mohammed Al Ali was honoured for their 'My Book is My Friend' initiative, while Fatima Ismail Al Sarayrah won in the Individuals category for her 'Statement for Autism' initiative. Volunteer teams and private sector recognition The Abaqira Volunteer Team earned first place in the Volunteer Teams category for their initiative, "Integrating Our Children with Our Elders," while the Najah Academic Centre at Abu Dhabi University secured the top spot in the Private Sector category for their 'Peer Mentoring Program.' Volunteer hours record Winners Ismail Halkouj set the record in the Individual category with 3,978 volunteer hours. In the Family category, Hanan Saeed Saeed Salem's family claimed first place with 306 hours. The Ataa Hamdan Volunteer Team topped the Volunteer Team category, contributing an impressive 45,477 volunteer hours. University Student and Knight of Volunteer Work Awards The University Student Award for highest volunteer participation was awarded to Batoul Saadi Ibrahim Al-Najjar, who completed 1,943 volunteer hours. The Knight of Volunteer Work Award went to Tabarak Saadi Al-Najjar for achieving 1,606 volunteer hours. Asalah Award for Elderly Participation The Asalah Award for Best Volunteer Participation by the Elderly was awarded to Halima Ahmed Saif Al Naqbi, who earned first place with 86 volunteer hours. Latifa Mahmoud Mohammed secured second place with 26 hours, while Mira Hamad Saif Al Ketbi came in third with 25 hours. Himma Award for Volunteer Participation The Himma Award for Best Volunteer Participation was awarded to Salem Mohammed Karim, who claimed first place with 1,296 volunteer hours. Ayman Azhari Ali earned second place with 575.2 hours, while Salma Khamis Hamdan Al Salami secured third place with 301 hours. Civil society and volunteer leadership awards In the Best Civil Society Award category, the International Charity Organisation from Ajman secured first place, while the Hamdan Volunteer Team was recognised as the Best Volunteer Team. Sultan Salem Al Kaabi received the Best Young Leader of a Volunteer Team Award, and Dr Ahmed Mohammed Al Kamali was honoured with the Role Model Volunteer Award. Arada Real Estate Development Company earned the Excellence in Social Responsibility Award, and the Al Khalidiya Suburb Council was named Best Suburb in Volunteer Work. Special volunteer category honourees His Highness also honoured the recipients in the Special Volunteer Category, recognising outstanding blood donors including: Adel Abdulrahman Al Ali, Ibrahim Mohammed Al Zarouni, Roger Nicola Sahioni, Abdullah Mohammed Al Mulla, Ibaa Nazir Shabouk, Mubarak Amoud Ghadban, Eid Rashid Al Mutlaq, Jassim Mohammed Al Shehhi, Raed Fadhel Ramadan, Mustafa Abdulrahman Dakhel, and Mohammed Kamal Nazir Al Lauwza. Seminar in Ibb commemorating memory of eminent Scholar Badr al-Din al-Houthi
Ibb - Saba: A cultural seminar was held on Tuesday in Ibb province to commemorate the passing of the eminent scholar, Sayyid Badr al-Din Amir al-Din al-Houthi, may Allah be pleased with him. The seminar was attended by the governorate's agents, Rakan al-Naqeeb, Harith al-Maliki, and Qasim al-Masawi, as well as the President of Ibb University, Dr. Nasr al-Hajili. During the event, Ahmed al-Muhajir, the head of the Guidance Sector, highlighted aspects of the life of the late scholar Badr al-Din al-Houthi, his noble stances, his unwavering faith and trust in Allah, and some of his written works. Al-Muhajir noted that the late scholar was a unique example of humility, morality, and integrity, his commitment to consuming only what was confirmed as lawful, his courage in speaking the truth in the face of tyrants and oppressors. He further explained that the deceased had successfully raised his children on the principles of knowledge, piety, benevolence, jihad, and bravery. Participants in the seminar discussed three working papers covering the upbringing of the late scholar Badr al-Din al-Houthi, his knowledge, his relationship with the Holy Quran, his exceptional educational approach, and the immense responsibility he felt in supporting and accompanying the establishment of the Quranic movement. The papers also addressed his confrontation of Wahhabi ideology and the severe hardships he endured during the unjust wars waged by the former regime against Sa'ada in an attempt to suppress the blessed Quranic movement. ‘Basaer' religious initiative launched to empower women
The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, represented by the Women's Education and Guidance Department, has launched Basaer, a religious initiative aimed at deepening the understanding and appreciation of the Holy Quran. The event was held under the auspices of Her Highness Sayyidah Dr Rawnaq bint Turki al Said. The initiative targets over 200 women from various governmental and private institutions in Muscat Governorate, including Quran teachers, religious guides and female employees. Basaer seeks to instil love and reverence for the Holy Quran, promoting its values and teachings as a guiding light for both personal and community life. 'This initiative carries profound spiritual significance that Omani women need in their life journey,' said Her Highness Sayyidah Dr Rawnaq. 'It represents a path to a happy and fulfilling life today and in the future, rooted in the teachings of the Holy Quran.' She urged women to actively engage in such initiatives, noting that they offer invaluable opportunities to acquire religious knowledge and insight. The opening day featured a keynote address by Shamsa al Rahbi, Director of the Women's Education and Guidance Department, who highlighted the importance of adhering to the principles and teachings of true Islam, as revealed in the Holy Quran. She emphasised that true happiness and goodness in this life are found through obedience to divine guidance. The programme also included two working papers: 'The Message of Man in This Life, and the Role of the Holy Quran in Bringing Happiness to Humanity', presented by Dr Thuraya al Barashdi, and 'Real-Life Experiences of Individuals and Families Who Benefited from the Holy Quran', presented by Shamsa al Rahbi. Sultan Bin Ahmed attends UoS' graduation ceremony
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of University of Sharjah (UoS), attended the graduation ceremony for 566 female students earning their bachelor's degrees from UoS for the Spring 2025 batch, held on Monday in the university's city hall. Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed presented the degrees to the graduates from all bachelor's programmes in the Colleges of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Law, Fine Arts and Design, Communication, Science, Computing and Informatics, and Public Policy. He congratulated the graduates and wished them success in their future endeavours. The ceremony began with the national anthem of the UAE, followed by verses from the Holy Quran. Dr Issam Al Din Ibrahim Ajami, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, delivered a speech expressing gratitude to Sultan Bin Ahmed for his presence and ongoing support for the university and its students. He congratulated the graduates and their families, emphasising that this day is a celebration of their academic achievements, which resulted from their commitment to education and the support of their families and professors. Dr Ajami noted that University of Sharjah is celebrating the graduation of a distinguished group of female students from various colleges, representing the pillars of cultural development, national growth, and future excellence. He explained that this ceremony marks the conclusion of this year's graduation celebrations and highlighted key statistics achieved by the university since its founding by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in 1997. Over 48,000 graduates have completed their studies, many of whom hold leadership positions and contribute to the development of their communities both within the UAE and abroad. He mentioned that 65% of the university's students and alumni are female, demonstrating the pivotal role and significant presence of women in the university's journey. Dr Ajami stated that UOS coordinates constructively with higher education institutions in the emirate. The university actively contributes to achieving the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE by implementing developmental projects and activities, alongside close collaboration with relevant federal bodies and ministries. He emphasised the university's commitment to communication and cooperation with higher education and research institutions worldwide to ensure the excellence, quality, and modernity of its programmes and activities. This approach aims to keep pace with rapid developments and technologies, benefiting the community directly, contributing effectively to analysing its issues, finding suitable solutions, and ensuring outstanding and sustainable performance. Dr Ajami addressed the graduates, stating, 'Your journey at this university has been filled with knowledge and learning, characterised by determination and hard work, rooted in strong values of seeking knowledge, excellence, and ambition for a bright future. Your graduation today is not the end of the road but the beginning of a new era in which you will bear the responsibility of actively contributing to building the nation and elevating society. Each of your colleges has played an effective role in serving and developing the community in essential fields that any society cannot do without.' He added, 'You are the mothers of the future and the educators of the coming generations. I congratulate you on this achievement and remind you of the greatest role that awaits you-the role of a mother, the creator of humanity, the educator of generations, and the guardian of values and meanings. An aware and educated mother is the cornerstone in building a generation capable of facing challenges, anchored in its values, open to the world, and committed to its identity.'
