All 8 "Harry Potter" Movies, Ranked
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Arguably the most relevant entry in the series, this is the identifier as the one where Harry, his friends, and the franchise as a whole, embrace the young adult audience. From the disturbing injuries of Arthur Weasley to the dramatic death of Harry's godfather, Sirius Black, the series does not look back after this point. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban The point where the series evolves from family entertainment to blockbuster, this entry finds Harry entering the teen years. As he grows over the movie, he finds that things aren't as simple or as clean-cut as he thought when he was younger. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone The one that started it all! Alongside the tropes of children's literature and the handmade quality of the old-school special effects, this also does an excellent job of setting up themes that continue to be important throughout the franchise. From the discovery of a greater world to the Hogwarts dynamics, to even the establishment of death as a theme, it is difficult to imagine a better beginning to the franchise. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 The epic conclusion to the decade-spanning, generation-defining franchise. This does not miss the mark. From everyone gathering together for the last time to fight off the common enemy, to Harry seeing things in a different way for the last time in regard to Snape, to the class clown Neville destroying the snake horcrux, all knots are tied and no loose ends as Harry takes his son to the train at Kings Cross as an adult. All is well. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Mostly the setup to the finale, this plays out as a weird bottle episode-esque blockbuster. Not to say that it's bad. The scene where Harry and Hermione dance together is a warm light amidst the darkness that has enveloped the series at this point. The Deathly Hallows are established through an animated sequence that is a bottle episode within the movie. Finally, the death of Dobby gives this movie the gut punch that it needs to get to the conclusion. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince The slow point of the later Harry Potter movies establishes the fact that even in times of crises, life goes on. Love goes on. Milestones happen. Even amidst all this, incidents from the outside world seep through the bubble of Hogwarts. All of it culminating in the death of the beloved headmaster, Dumbledore. Getting rid of Harry's protector establishes to Harry and the audience that he is now on his own. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Teenage years are awkward. Perhaps someone should have warned Harry before he grew out his hair like that? This is probably the awkward high school movie of the franchise, where Harry has to dance with a girl for the first time and learn to swim. This is a fantasy John Hughes movie if someone had died in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets The tricky second album of the franchise treads on a lot of the same territory as the first movie. However, it's not without its charms. Lockhart is a very entertaining character, and we are introduced to the best house elf, Dobby. Even with its flaws, it's still quite fun. Netflix, Yahoo in Pact to Expand Programmatic Ad Sales
Netflix added Yahoo to its list of partners for programmatic ad sales, the streaming giant's latest effort to spark interest in its ad-supported subscription tier. 'This will enable clients to buy Netflix advertising through Yahoo programmatically, and will be available later this year in all 12 of our ad-supported countries,' said Amy Reinhard, Netflix' president of advertising, in a prepared statement. 'Integrating Yahoo DSP is all about driving performance for Netflix advertisers, and we will partner together on advanced targeting segments to optimize the best results for our clients.' Netflix recently gave advertisers the ability to target more than 100 interests in over 17 categories, including life stages, and to incorporate first-party data into their process. Others are also examining similar options. Amazon and Roku earlier Monday unveiled a new deal that will pool their connected-TV audience impressions to allow for better targeting and more precise placement of programmatic advertising in Amazon Fire and the Roku Channel. 'We're excited to bring Netflix's premium ad-supported inventory to Yahoo DSP clients, offering access to highly engaged audiences in a trusted, brand-safe environment. This integration makes it easy for advertisers to incorporate Netflix into their broader CTV strategies without added complexity,' said Alia Lamborghini, senior vice president of global revenue at Yahoo DSP, in a prepared statement. Netflix has been developing its advertising offers since 2022, and has been active in the annual 'upfront' sales market since 2023. Media buyers say the company's scale has been relatively limited on a region by region basis, though Netflix said earlier this year that its ad-supported tier reaches 94 million people around the world. Advertisers typically don't create a single campaign for global audiences, and may buy commercials for specific regions as well as consumers. Emma Watson Joins Oxford Rowing Team, Rival Crew Trolls Her With Harry Potter Song
Last Updated: Emma Watson is showcasing her athletic prowess by competing in Oxford University's Summer Eights rowing regatta. Hermoine aka Emma Watson has swapped wands for oars! The Harry Potter star was spotted yelling into a mic while steering a boat at Oxford University's Summer Eights rowing competition. She is officially part of her college's rowing team and took on the role of coxswain (the one who shouts directions and steers, not rows). The 35-year-old joined Oxford last year for a grad program. Emma helped lead her team in four races — and while they only won one, she was all in, shouting instructions like a total pro. However, one of the rival teams beat Emma's squad and cheekily played the Harry Potter theme song after their win which was a subtle (or not-so-subtle) dig. Emma hasn't been on our screens much lately, and that's been intentional. She's been on a bit of a career pause, choosing to focus on studies and personal growth. In fact, she made a rare red carpet return earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival after more than a decade away. Talking about her break from acting, Emma once said she needed to step back and do things on her own terms. 'It gave me a sense of autonomy and creative freedom," she said in a December 2023 interview. Emma Watson didn't waste any time breaking out of the Harry Potter mould once the series wrapped. Her first big move post-Hermione came with Ballet Shoes in 2007, followed by lending her voice to the animated film The Tale of Despereaux in 2008. After bidding Hogwarts goodbye, she took on a string of diverse roles starting with a supporting part in My Week with Marilyn (2011), and then impressing audiences as the vibrant and rebellious Sam in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012). Watson then portrayed Alexis Neiers in Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring (2013), and took a dramatic turn in Darren Aronofsky's Noah (2014), playing the adopted daughter of the titular character. That same year, she received a major nod from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, winning the British Artist of the Year award. Emma charmed audiences as Belle in Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast (2017), and later joining Greta Gerwig's star-studded cast in Little Women (2019) as the grounded and practical Meg March. Watson managed to juggle film shoots and college life between 2011 and 2014. She eventually graduated from Brown University in May 2014 with a degree in English literature. Emma Watson's last acting role was in the 2020 film Little Women, where she played Meg March. First Published: June 15, 2025, 10:06 IST

Harry Potter reboot star Nick Frost fails to mention J.K. Rowling during new interview in which he revealed the 'only people' whose approval he sought for iconic role
New Harry Potter star Nick Frost has revealed the "only people" whose approval he sought before taking on an iconic role in the TV series - but notably failed to mention controversial author J.K. Rowling. Frost will play beloved Hogwarts groundskeeper Hagrid in the upcoming HBO adaptation of Rowling's seven-volume fantasy series into a long-form TV show, which is set to start filming in the UK in less than a month. The actor and comedian said he was a huge fan of the late Robbie Coltrane, who originally played Hagrid in the films from 2001 to 2011. Frost said he never knew the legendary actor, but his best mate Danny did. And he was elated when Coltrane's children called Danny with their resounding approval of him taking over their father's most famous role. 'I loved the fact he was massive and angry, and that's how he began, as a kind of people's poet in a way,' Frost said over Zoom in London, according to NewsCorp's entertainment journalist James Wigney on Friday. 'And I love that working-class element he brought to everything he did. I had never met him, but my best friend Danny knows his family very well. 'And apparently, his kids phoned my mate Danny to say, 'We are so happy that Nick got the role of Hagrid and that Dad was a really big fan of his'. Frost said Coltrane's family were the "only people" he felt he had to "really impress" in the Harry Potter world, and that "job is done" now. The actor will join a star-studded ensemble, including John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, and Paapa Essiedu as Snape in the awaited series revamp. Dominic McLaughlin has been cast for the titular role of Harry Potter, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermoine Granger. Frost's failure to mention Rowling is notable after some of the new stars, including Lithgow and Essiedu, recently expressed opposition to the author's views. However, he previously disagreed with the 59-year-old's opinions in an interview with The Observer. 'She's allowed her opinion and I'm allowed mine, they just don't align in any way, shape or form,' the Hot Fuzz actor told the publication recently. Asked if he fears the conversation about Rowling could overshadow the new show, Frost said he hoped it would serve as an educational tool. 'I don't know,' he said. 'But maybe it shouldn't blow over? We shouldn't just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves.' Last November, HBO chief Casey Bloys said Rowling's views have not "affected the casting or hiring of writers or productions staff'. A spokesperson for the network added the author "has a right to express her personal views" and the new series will "only benefit from her involvement." Rowling recently celebrated the ruling that only biological women meet the definition of a woman under equality laws in a landmark case. She has previously mocked the phrase "people who menstruate", said women's rights and "lived reality" would be "erased" if "sex isn't real", and called a list of trans women "men, every last one of them".
