Delhi residents may soon experience the thrill of hot-air ballooning, similar to popular rides in Turkey's Cappadocia region, without leaving the city. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced plans to introduce recreational hot-air balloon rides at two major locations — the Commonwealth Games Village near Akshardham and the Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar — as part of a new tourism push. Delhi Hot Air Balloons: Two sites selected for initial launch Following internal evaluations, DDA has identified the two sports complexes for the pilot phase. A tender has been issued, inviting private firms to run the hot-air balloon services. 'These sites will be offered for operation of hot air ballooning on a revenue-sharing basis. Each operator will receive a licence for three years, with a possible extension of up to nine years. 'The space will be provided to the firm for undertaking a maximum of four hours of flying per day. However, temporary permission for additional hours may be granted by DDA on a case-to-case basis,' the proposal added. Leisure tourism to be added to legacy sports infrastructure The Commonwealth Games Village, located along the Yamuna River and built to house athletes for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, spans nearly 100 acres. The Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar was also developed as part of the same event. Both sites are currently used for sports activities and have additional open spaces. To begin with, four specific locations have been marked at each complex to host the balloon rides, aiming to increase footfall and make better use of the existing infrastructure. If successful, Delhi could soon offer its own version of the scenic hot-air balloon experiences popular in global tourist hubs. Ropeway along Yamuna in the works, says DDA Delhi could soon also get its first urban ropeway system, with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) planning to build the transport line along the Yamuna river. The proposed aerial route is expected to give passengers elevated views of religious sites, riverbanks, and parts of Old Delhi, officials said. Ropeway to be integrated with Kalindi Aviral project The ropeway is expected to begin from the Kalindi Aviral site, a riverfront project currently under development along the Yamuna's western bank. Spread over 163 hectares, the Kalindi Aviral corridor covers the stretch from NH-24 to the Barapullah drain. The Baansera park near Sarai Kale Khan, which has already been opened to the public, is part of this larger initiative. Capacity and technical details under discussion The proposed ropeway aims to carry up to 3,000 passengers per hour in each direction. According to the initial plan, each gondola will have a capacity of eight to ten people. However, key design elements including the final route alignment, number of stations, and placement of towers are still being finalised. The ropeway plan is part of a broader effort to improve mobility and promote tourism along the Yamuna, while also adding green and recreational infrastructure. (Inputs from PTI)

Telecom industry AGR shows modest 1.7% rise in Q4 FY25
The telecom industry recorded a 1.7% sequential growth in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) in the last quarter of FY25, with the impact of last year's tariff increases waning. Vodafone Idea and Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) saw sequential declines in their mobile service revenues. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( Trai ) data showed for the January-March quarter, the AGR of the industry stood at ₹79,226 crore, a tad higher than ₹77,934 crore in the preceding quarter. Access or mobile services contributed 84.02% of the telecom industry AGR while the remaining amount came from national long distance (NLD), international long distance (ILD), internet service providers (ISPs), etc. In terms of access services, Reliance Jio has extended the gap with Bharti Airtel in terms of AGR growth. Jio's AGR climbed 3.2% to ₹29,464.7 crore in the Q4 from ₹28,542.8 crore in the preceding Q3. After reporting a rise in their access services AGR in the FYQ3, both Vodafone Idea and state-run BSNL witnessed a decline in Q4. The AGR of Vodafone Idea declined 3.8% in Q4 to ₹7,653.5 crore from ₹7,958.5 crore in the preceding Q3. Similarly, BSNL's AGR was down 2.3% to ₹2,239.5 crore from ₹2,292.5 crore in the reported period. Live Events Higher quarterly AGR translated into higher license fee and spectrum usage charge (SUC) collections for the department of telecommunications (DoT). The license fee mop-up rose 1.7% sequentially to ₹6,340 crore, while SUC collections rose 1.2% on-quarter to ₹1,000 crore, data collated by the regulator showed. Telcos annually pay 8% of AGR license fees while the overall SUC payout is in the range of 1-3% after the government had said airwaves acquired from the first 5G spectrum auction onwards will not attract any SUC. Overall, sectoral minutes of consumption increased, with the all-India average minutes of usage (MoU) per subscriber per month from wireless services increased 1.6% on-quarter to 1026 minutes in the March quarter. The Trai report on the telecom industry's fiscal fourth quarter performance also indicated that monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) from wireless services increased 0.6% sequentially to ₹182.9. Data collated by the regulator showed the country's internet user base decreased in the March quarter by 0.1% sequentially to 969.1 million.

All central government departments have been asked to maintain digital service books of employees and phase out the physical ones, the Personnel Ministry has said. The service book of a government servant is a document to record all the events in his/her entire service period and career recording each and every administrative action right from the stage of recruitment till retirement to reflect the history of service. Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi, Gujarat and Odisha are among top performers in the 2023-24 Performing Grade Index that assesses school education at the district level, according to a report of the Ministry of Education . Other top performing states and Union territories include Kerala, Daman and Diu, Haryana, Goa, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, the report said. Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D) measures the performance of states and UTs in school education. Following the same approach of state PGI, districts are graded. In PGI-D, the nomenclature for PGI scores is classified into various grades. Highest achievable grade in PGI-D is 'Utkarsh', which is for districts scoring more than 90 per cent of the total points in that category or overall. The category and overall scores are then reduced by an equal width of 10 per cent of total points in that category or overall points for arriving to the next grade.
