No Hasselblad in OnePlus 15? New leak reveals big OnePlus camera update

Here we go again! The rumoured OnePlus 15, said to be the successor to the OnePlus 13, will reportedly launch without the Hasselblad branding. And this isn't the first time we've heard something like this about OnePlus and Hasselblad parting ways. Before the launch of the OnePlus 13, it was widely speculated that the company would be ending its partnership with Hasselblad, and the OnePlus 13 would launch without the Hasselblad branding. However, that didn't happen, and the OnePlus 13 featured a triple-rear camera system, once again tuned in collaboration with Hasselblad. That said, this time around, it's looking more likely that the partnership may actually come to an to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the OnePlus 15 will not feature Hasselblad-tuned cameras and will instead adopt a new in-house imaging engine, much like what OPPO has done with its recent launches, the Find X8 and Find X8 Ultra in China. Both those phones use OPPO's proprietary Lumo imaging from this, the leak also highlights some of the key specifications of the OnePlus 15. It appears the company might scale things back on the display front, with the OnePlus 15 said to sport a 6.78-inch flat AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution — a step-down from the 6.82-inch quad-curved AMOLED screen with 2K resolution found on the OnePlus 13. The upside here is the flat display. Much like the OnePlus 13R, this move could be seen as a practical choice. While some might consider it a downgrade — and as good as quad-curved screens are (certainly better than older sloping-curved panels) — a flat display often proves more usable in day-to-day Also, in case you're wondering why OnePlus is skipping the number 14 and naming the next flagship the OnePlus 15 instead, it's because the number 4 is considered unlucky in Chinese culture. That's why the company is expected to jump straight from 13 to 15 for its next major OnePlus 15 is also rumoured to retain the triple 50-megapixel rear camera setup from the OnePlus 13, including a primary sensor, an ultra-wide, and a periscope telephoto lens. On the performance side, the phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip, which is likely to be unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit in leaks have also claimed that the OnePlus 15 will pack the largest battery ever in a flagship phone — reportedly over 7,000mAh — with support for 100W wired and wireless charging. The phone is also said to come with an IP69 rating for dust and water resistance, just like the OnePlus OnePlus 15 is expected to launch in China by the end of this year, followed by a global release — including India — in early 2026. To recall, the OnePlus 13 was launched in India earlier this year, on January 7, at a starting price of Rs 69,999.

If this OnePlus 15 camera leak is true, OnePlus might be making a critical mistake

Ryan Haines / Android Authority The OnePlus 13 is, without a doubt, one of my favorite Android phones available today — and for a multitude of reasons. Its design is great, performance is outstanding, and battery life is amazing. Unlike a lot of past OnePlus phones, the OnePlus 13's cameras are just as good (if not better) than the rest of its flagship competitors. And that's why the latest OnePlus 15 leak has me worried. Earlier this week, a well-known leaker teased a few details about the upcoming OnePlus 15, including the suggestion that the OnePlus 15 won't feature the Hasselblad camera partnership that has been on flagship OnePlus phones since the OnePlus 9 series. If true, it would mark a monumental change for OnePlus handsets — and it could ruin one of my favorite things about the OnePlus 13. Hasselblad is what makes OnePlus cameras special Joe Maring / Android Authority Out of everything the OnePlus 13 gets right (which is a pretty extensive list), its camera system is one of the main reasons I've used the phone so much this year. That's partly due to the excellent camera sensors, but more so because of the Hasselblad integration. OnePlus phones that utilize the Hasselblad partnership have a few camera tricks up their sleeve, but the most important thing is that they feature Hasselblad's unique color science and image tuning. And if you ask me, it's what makes OnePlus phones (particularly the OnePlus 13) so special. We're at a point with smartphone cameras where image/color tuning is one of the biggest differentiators between which phone camera you choose. That's not to say camera sensor technology has plateaued, but what a company does with said cameras is becoming increasingly more important. Ryan Haines / Android Authority For example, images captured with Google's Pixel phones have a distinct, flat appearance. There's often a lot of HDR post-processing that flattens shadows and reduces contrast. It's great if you want a super natural-looking photo, but they're often not very eye-catching. Samsung phones, meanwhile, often produce overly saturated and vibrant-looking pictures. It's not quite as aggressive today as it was a few years ago, but it's still there. OnePlus cameras also have their own distinct look to them, and it's arguably my favorite of any Android phone available today. The Hasselblad tuning on the OnePlus 13 delivers punchy colors without going overboard. It's not afraid to retain a lot of shadows and contrast in a way you'd never see from a Google Pixel phone. Photos aren't always 100% true-to-life, but they almost always have a striking, eye-catching aesthetic. I've included a few of my favorite examples above. I took all of these photos on the OnePlus 13, and each one stands out for different reasons. I love the warm, golden color the sun casts on the grass in the first picture, plus the shadows created by the numerous trees. I also adore the zoomed-in photo of the budding tree branch. Between the stark white flowers, the shadowy branch, and the saturated blue sky, it's a gorgeous pic. The image of my dog sitting in the sun, with a dark shadow cast across part of his face? My Pixel 9 could never. Joe Maring / Android Authority XPan OnePlus 13 photo And that's not to mention the Hasselblad-specific camera modes, my favorite being XPan Mode. I wrote an entire article about it earlier this year, but the gist is that it's one of the most unique camera modes available on Android today — and one of my favorite reasons to carry the OnePlus 13. I hope OnePlus knows what it's doing Ryan Haines / Android Authority If OnePlus doesn't renew its Hasselblad partnership for the OnePlus 15, what's going to replace it? Word on the street is that OnePlus will launch its own 'image brand' alongside its next flagship, meaning that OnePlus would be in charge of all its own color science and image tuning. Furthermore, Hasselblad camera modes such as XPan and Master Mode would likely be discontinued. Details on OnePlus's 'image brand' are still scarce, but if this is truly the route OnePlus has chosen, I hope the company knows what it's doing. Hasselblad's impact on OnePlus smartphones has been beyond significant, and the idea of it going away is worrisome. I'm feeling nervous about the OnePlus 15 in a way I wasn't previously. It's not that I don't trust OnePlus to create its own competent color tuning and camera modes, but when things are already working so well on the OnePlus 13, I don't like the idea of OnePlus throwing that all away and starting from scratch. It's also possible that OnePlus will be able to retain a lot of what it learned/designed during its time working with Hasselblad, and that this change (if it happens) won't have much impact. We'll ultimately have to wait and see how this shakes out, but from where we're sitting right now, I'm feeling nervous about the OnePlus 15 in a way I wasn't previously. OnePlus has something good with the OnePlus 13 camera, and I really, really hope it doesn't throw that away with the OnePlus 15.

OnePlus reportedly plans next flagship without Hasselblad: What changes?

Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus is reportedly preparing to end its long-standing partnership with Swedish optics company Hasselblad. According to a report by 9To5Google, OnePlus' upcoming flagship smartphone might drop the Hasselblad branding from its camera system, signalling a possible conclusion to the multi-year collaboration. The first OnePlus smartphones to feature camera systems co-developed with Hasselblad were the OnePlus 9 series, launched in 2021. Both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro debuted with the 'Hasselblad Camera for Mobile' branding, introducing the company's colour science and image tuning capabilities to the OnePlus smartphone line-up. In the current flagship OnePlus 12 series, only the OnePlus 12 retains the Hasselblad integration, while models like the OnePlus 12R and 12s do not feature the partnership branding. Alongside the reported end of the Hasselblad collaboration, OnePlus is also said to be redesigning the camera module on its upcoming flagship models. As per the report, the brand may move away from the large circular camera arrays seen in recent OnePlus flagships and R-series devices, opting instead for a more square-shaped camera housing—similar to the design featured on the newly launched OnePlus 13s. OnePlus has used the circular camera module since the OnePlus 11 series launched in 2023. On the hardware front, the next-generation OnePlus flagship is expected to feature a triple rear camera set-up, including a 50MP primary sensor, a periscopic telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide camera—similar to the imaging approach seen on the current OnePlus 13. The report further notes that OnePlus' next flagship smartphone will likely be unveiled in China by the end of this year. It is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Elite Gen 2 processor, the anticipated successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. A global launch for the device is expected to follow in early 2025.

This OnePlus 15 camera leak makes me very nervous about the flagship

OnePlus's next flagship smartphone is expected to be the OnePlus 15 – due to arrive later this year. The rumour mill has started churning out some leaks about the handset, including one major camera titbit. And I'm officially nervous about the flagship. Since 2021, Hasselblad has been a quiet co-pilot on OnePlus's camera journey. The results haven't always been revolutionary, but you can't deny the colour science got a notable boost, and portrait shots started getting more effective. So a leak from the reputable Digital Chat Station on Weibo says that the OnePlus 15 might ditch the Hasselblad collab in favour of an in-house 'image brand' makes me twitchy. There's a reason phone makers like to slap big-name logos on their camera modules. It's not just for show – those partnerships usually nudge the camera tuning in the right direction. Without it, there's a risk we're back to OnePlus' days of good hardware, muddled by inconsistent camera results. But, the leak suggests the OnePlus 15 will still have a triple-lens setup, including a periscope lens and a big primary sensor. That sounds great on paper, but hardware alone doesn't make a brilliant camera system. Tuning, software, and experience matter – and that's where Hasselblad's influence has historically helped OnePlus punch above its weight. Of course, there's a chance that OnePlus has picked up enough know-how from years of collaboration to go solo without things crashing and burning. But that's a pretty big gamble. It's hard not to see this as a cost-cutting move dressed up as innovation. The rest of the spec sheet is shaping up just fine. A 6.78-inch 1.5K flat display might seem like a step down from the OnePlus 13's curvy QHD+ panel. But flat screens are far more practical in daily use. Add in the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip and thinner bezels, and the OnePlus 15 is still sounding like a flagship contender. I'm just hoping the camera doesn't let the side down.

OnePlus 15 to bring some big changes

The OnePlus 13's successor could end up being called OnePlus 15, so as to avoid "4" due to tetraphobia in some Asian markets. That aside, it's now rumored to bring some pretty significant changes. First off, its screen will allegedly be lower-res than its predecessor's, only "1.5K". This was done in order to save some money which is being invested elsewhere in the phone. The display size will be 6.78", it will be flat, and will have ultra-narrow bezels on all four sides. OnePlus 13 The phone's camera island will not be circular anymore, and the device will have three shooters on the back, including a 50 MP main camera and a periscope telephoto camera. It will also introduce its own image brand for the first time. This may as well be Oppo's Lumo, by the way. Thus, it's unclear what will happen with the Hasselblad co-branding, a staple of OnePlus flagships for the past few years. Either it continues and we'll have three brands on the back of the phone - OnePlus, Hasselblad, and the new OnePlus imaging brand - or it doesn't. That remains to be seen. In case the screen resolution downgrade made you think there will be a OnePlus 15 Pro as well, think again - the source of this leak claims that won't be the case, the 15 is all we're getting.
