Physis Capital raises ₹200 crore, eyes 15+ startup deals by mid-2025

Growth-stage venture fund Physis Capital on Wednesday announced that it has raised over ₹200 crore for its maiden fund. The fund, established by Vinay Bansal, Ankur Mittal, and Mitesh Shah of Inflection Point Ventures, plans to raise the remaining capital over the next six to nine months. The fund has attracted investors including SUD Life — a joint venture between Bank of India, Union Bank of India, and Japan's Dai-ichi Life Holdings. Other notable backers include Narayana Nethralaya, a NABH-accredited eye care institution in Bengaluru, and family offices such as Haldiram's and Lotus Holdings. Physis Capital plans to build a portfolio of over 15 companies by the first half of next year and aims to invest in high-impact, tech-driven startups in the pre-Series A to Series B stages. So far, the firm has eight deals in the pipeline and is preparing to issue term sheets for at least four of them in the coming months. These investments are expected to close within the next two quarters. The pipeline spans diverse sectors, including health-tech, fintech, consumer brands, and quick commerce, the company said in a statement. The cheque sizes for these companies will range between $1 million and $1.5 million, with a potential top-up of up to $4 million in high-performing portfolio startups. The firm has invested in three companies to date — Ben & Gaws, CTPL, and STAGE. Its most recent investment was in STAGE, a hyperlocal OTT platform creating content in Indian dialects such as Haryanvi, Rajasthani, and Bhojpuri. Vinay Bansal, general partner at the firm, said: 'With strong support from marquee investors and a clear focus on founder-first investing, Physis Capital is well-positioned to back the next wave of high-impact startups in India — partnering with bold, ambitious teams to drive long-term, sustainable growth. We are on track to build a portfolio of 15+ companies by the first half of next year.'

New Delhi: Hours after the murdered model, Sheetal Chaudhary's married lover, confessed to killing her in Haryana, a CCTV footage has surfaced showing the two entering a car - just minutes before the crime. In the footage, Sheetal was wearing the same orange top in which she was found dead in a canal in Sonipat. Sunil, the married lover, was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. The two walked out of what looked like a hotel and entered the car around 10 pm on Saturday night. According to the police, when the two were sitting in the car, Sheetal received a call from another man (identity unknown) - to which Sunil objected. However, the model still picked up the call. Angered by this, Sunil slit the model's throat and threw her body and the car into a canal - trying to make it look like an accident. He even tried to make some cuts on his hands, officials said. The accused, Sunil, was found in a hospital in Panipat, where he confessed to killing Sheetal. What happened On Saturday, Sheetal, a model working in the Haryanvi music industry, had visited the Ahar village in Panipat for an album shoot. Around 10:30 pm, Sunil arrived at the location to meet Sheetal. Officials said that around 1:30 am, Sheetal made a video call to her sister, Neha, informing her that Sunil was abusing her physically. However, shortly after, Neha could not reach out to her sister as her phone was switched off. When Sheetal did not return home, her sister filed a missing persons complaint at the Old Industrial Police Station. Upon investigation, the police found her body in a canal near the Khanda village. Sheetal's body was identified from tattoos on her hand and chest. Police also found several stabbing marks on Sheetal's body. Sunil and Sheetal's relationship Sunil befriended Sheetal when she was staying at his hotel, Sukun, located in Karnal's Model Town, during her shoot. The two had known each other for about six years. Recently, Sunil proposed to Sheetal for marriage. However, upon learning that he was already married and a father of two children, she turned him down. However, Sunil kept trying to persuade her, officials said. Sheetal was also married and had a five-month-old child.

New Delhi: Haryana model Sheetal Choudhary was found dead with her throat slit in a canal near Sonipat on Monday, two days after she went missing in Panipat. Her boyfriend, Sunil, a married man with two children, has confessed to murdering her, according to the police. Who was Sheetal Choudhary? Sheetal Choudhary, also known as Simi on social media, was a 26-year-old model and budding actress from Panipat, Haryana. She was seen in a few regional Haryanvi music videos. Sheetal was married and the mother of a five-month-old baby. She previously worked at a hotel in Karnal owned by the accused, Sunil. The two had known each other for nearly six years. What happened to Sheetal Choudhary? Sheetal was in Ahar village in Panipat on Saturday night for an album shoot. Around 10:30 pm, Sunil arrived and picked her up in his car. After a few drinks, an argument broke out between the two. Around 1:30 am, Sheetal made a frantic video call to her sister, claiming Sunil was beating her. Her phone went unreachable soon after. She was not heard from again. According to investigators, Sunil stabbed Sheetal multiple times, slit her throat, and dumped both her body and his car into a canal. On Sunday, the car was found near Panipat, but Sheetal was missing. Sunil showed up at a hospital later that day, claiming that their car had accidentally fallen into the canal and that Sheetal had drowned while he managed to escape. A day later, on Monday, Sheetal's body was recovered 80 km away in a canal in Kharkhoda, Sonipat. Her identity was confirmed based on tattoos on her hand and chest. Multiple stab wounds were also found. During questioning, Sunil confessed to the murder. Police said the motive remained unclear. According to officers, Sunil asked Sheetal to marry him, but she turned him down after discovering he was already married with two children. A postmortem examination is underway.
