Forget Neutrals! An Odd-Hued Sneaker Is My Summer Shoe
This summer is all about embracing a muted palette. At least, that is what the season's trending ready-to-wear colors would suggest. The runways were filled with loads of butter yellows, chocolate browns, and icy blues; 'Soft' and 'easy' are two words that come to mind when trying to define summer 2025 dressing. But for shoes, may we propose introducing a more anti-summer style into your wardrobe rotation—via an extremely odd-hued sneaker. If your closet is steering stealthy-chic, then your shoe game should go for more of a wow factor. Things can't all be so neutral. Where is the fun in that? And what better way to amp up an outfit than with a slim-green or acid-yellow sneaker. Eye-popping sneakers are currently having a moment on the feet of some notable celebrities. Earlier this month, Harry Styles stepped out in London wearing a pair of yellow Prada nylon low-tops—which he paired with itty-bitty gym shorts, naturally. (How Paul Mescal of him.) His mustard shoes worn with red shorts was an unexpected but very cool look. A reminder that color-mixing should be fun, and not taken so seriously.

New development announced for luxury hotel Holm House complex
New development announced for luxury hotel Holm House complex The boutique hotel in Penarth has hosted celebrities like Harry Styles, David Hasselhof and Daniel Craig and now there is a new development The Holm House was first built in the 1920s, becoming apart of the fabric of Penarth's community (Image: Mirrorpix ) An historic Welsh building is set for a new lease of life this summer, as the team behind one of Cardiff's most in-demand restaurants announces plans to open at the landmark site. Located on Marine Parade, with sweeping views over the Bristol Channel, Holm House will become the second venue for Silures - recently named Cardiff's most booked restaurant of 2024, by The Fork. This venture is being launched by Cardiff company A&M Hospitality Group, which was founded by Andrei Maxim and Daf Andrews. Their backgrounds include leading roles at some of London's most prestigious venues including the Savoy Grill, Galvin Bar & Grill and The Coral Room. They have a popular restaurant in Roath, Cardiff, and they say this new venture will bring its signature blend of European cooking, cocktails and warm hospitality to the scenic coastal town. Known for its spa, sea-facing rooms and elegant gardens, the property welcomed stars like Harry Styles, Daniel Craig and Tyson Fury. Silures will be opening its second venue at Holm House (Image: Holm House ) Article continues below However, like many in the hospitality sector, the business struggled post-pandemic and closed in March 2024, citing rising costs and changing market conditions. The building is cherished locally and has been listed as a "country treasure" in Penarth's conservation area appraisal. Explaining why they have decided to open a new restaurant there, Daf Andrews said: "Penarth felt like the natural next step - a vibrant town with a strong sense of community and an appetite for quality hospitality. "Holm House is a beautiful building, and the rooms, spa and garden offer something truly special. The private dining space and outdoor areas give us more flexibility to host everything from intimate dinners to events and celebrations, while staying true to the Silures experience." The Penarth site will include a 50-seat main restaurant, a bar area with space for 25, a private dining room for 22 and garden terrace that can seat up to 50 or host up to 100 standing guests. Silures is known for it's eclectic European menu (Image: A&M Hospitality Group ) They say the menu is set to boast popular dishes such as XL jumbo king prawns with chilli and mango salsa, miso-glazed cauliflower with romesco and pistachio, a specialised wagyu burger and their Baked Alaska with white rum - prepared tableside. There will be weekly specials with a weekday set menu, which is served Wednesday to Saturday, 12 to 3pm and 5pm to 6pm. The new venue hopes to bring the warm hospitality and great food, which it's Roath restaurant has become famed for (Image: A&M Hospitality Group ) Silures Penarth opens July 11, and bookings are already being taken. The Summer Shoes to Wear, According to Your Zodiac Sign
Which shoe trend to try this summer feels like too large a question to answer. Do you pick a boat shoe or a mesh shoe? A wedge or heeled flip-flops? Do you dare don toe-separating flats? Instead of scrolling through the internet for answers, it could be worth turning to the stars. While you should, of course, dabble in any trend that speaks to you, why not take guidance from your zodiac sign? For the believers in the crowd, what better tool to bring out your true personal style? And for the non-believers, no harm, no foul. What better style is there for the truly visionary Aquarians than some toe-separating shoes? They're truly made for a star sign intent on leading the pack (think Harry Styles and Alicia Keys), plus, their ergonomic credentials make sense for such an intellectual and open-minded crew. As the most adaptable of the water signs, it figures that Pisceans should try a shoe meant for nautical pursuits. Thanks to this sign's creativity, they are likely style stars, the most famous being one of the world's best dressed: Rihanna. And we know the best dressed out there are wearing boat shoes aplenty. Self-confident Aries women can pull off one of this season's trickiest trends: the heeled flip-flop. Pairing particularly well with similarly divisive capri pants, the Y2K heels demand an ever-present pedicure—ideal for the perfectionist Aries. The adventurous and beauty-craving Taureans should consider bungee cord sandals. Reliable and comfort-focused, they have the same traits as a classic Taurus woman. (Think: Gigi Hadid.) Miu Miu, of course, is the originator of this style, which work as well on the beach with board shorts and a T-shirt as they do with a silk maxi dress. The multifaceted Gemini woman is nothing if not sneakerinas personified. Geminis should bring their adaptable, outgoing, and flexible nature to their shoedrobe and try the hybrid style. Our favorite iterations of the ballet-trainer hybrid have to be the Puma Speedcat ballet trainers and the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 TGRS. Classic homebodies with a nurturing and traditional nature, Cancerians should be all about the clog for the summer of 2025 (and beyond). You can imagine one of our favorite Cancers, Pamela Anderson, pottering around her garden in some clogs, or even taking them front row. With everyone from Prada to Penelope Chilvers selling a pair this season, the only question is if you wear them with socks or without (we say both). Forever the lead character, Leos deserve nothing less than the glamorous wedge sandal. Recently repopularized by Chloé, there's something about wedge sandals that scream self-confidence and risk-taking—two of the Leo woman's strongest assets. You could dress down your wedge sandals with denim, but we think a Leo woman would go all out. Delicate, classic ballet shoes require care and attention, making them the perfect fit for a Virgo. They'll be sure to keep their flats polished, and they'll be creative enough to style them with some vintage denim and a beat-up Birkin. While Chanel ballets flats are, of course, the holy grail, we're partial to Mansur Gavriel's styles too. Known for their great sense of humor, Libras should try a pair of cheeky and youthful jelly sandals. Jelly sandals' nostalgic vibe are perfect for Libra's charming and romantic nature—plus, they have just enough quirk to pull off this off-kilter style. We love Loeffler Randall's Ryhs design, which are bejeweled and look particularly adorable with ankle socks and a midi dress. Intense and magnetic Scorpios are a perfect match for Tabi shoes. Be it in boot, ballet, Mary-Jane, or loafer styles, the weird and wonderful split-toe Tabis offer the same level of mystery that the Scorpio does. Margiela has the most iconic offerings, but Tabis styles exist outside of the label's realm. Try pairing with suiting for work to bring your witchy side to all parts of your life. If Miley Cyrus, Zoë Kravitz, and Janelle Monáe—all famous Sagittarians—were a shoe, they would likely be mesh flats. Beloved for their free-spirited and adventurous ethos, Sagittarians can handle the daring naked-but-not shoe trend. Best worn with floor-grazing trousers, Dear Frances and The Row have the mesh flats we've got on our wishlists. A Capricorn will take you places, as will a pair of perfectly sculpted skinny trainers. Supportive and realistic, this star sign is best represented by the reigning sneaker style of this season—with one eye on style and the other on practicality. Skinny trainers are everywhere, with our favorite styles coming from Puma, Nike, and Dries Van Noten.

London's best lidos, ponds and outdoor pools to beat the heatwave
A searing heatwave is sweeping the UK, and all any of us Londoners can think of is where to go to cool off. It's so hot, in fact, that the previous record of 40°C, in July 2022, could be under threat. A health agency has issued an amber heat warning, meaning there's potential for it to be dangerously hot, and the Met Office has warned it's only going to get hotter. In London, we don't have the luxury of a coast. But along with dozens of parks and buzzing beer gardens, we do have plenty of lidos and spots for wild swimming. So, grab your towel, slap on some factor 50, and dive right in. After a £4 million revamp, Tooting Bec Lido is finally open to the public this summer. At 90 metres long, it's the UK's largest freshwater swimming pool, catering to 1,300 Londoners. The lido offers two sessions per day, alongside special swim times to kickstart the season. As well as installing a new pumphouse and UV filtration system to keep the water clean and safe, the surrounding area has also had a glow-up. The changing rooms have been given a sleek, modern update and there's fresh landscaping around the water's edge. According to Wandsworth Council, 130 free tickets for swimming sessions will be available for eligible residents under Wandsworth's Access for All scheme. Otherwise, it's £9.40 for adults and £5.20 for kids. If you want wild swimming without travelling to the countryside, make for Hampstead Heath Ponds. Split between mixed, and men's and women's areas, the ponds have a cult following and come July will be heaving with crowds. Who knows, you might even spot a celebrity. A-listers are known to frequent the Heath, with Harry Styles, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Woody Harrelson all swimming there in recent years. Tickets are £4.80 for adults and £2.90 for concessions for 60 minutes of swimming. Tucked in the corner of Brixton's Brockwell Park, this lido is a real sun trap on a warm day. The 50m Olympic-sized pool sits beside an art deco building, with a cute café where you can refuel after a swim. Lane swims cost £8 for up to 50 minutes, and must be booked in advance. Another South London gem, this Olympic-sized heated pool has a summer sun terrace, coffee bar, and outdoor gym equipment. If you're lucky, you'll see the local parakeets flying above while you backstroke. Adult swimming sessions cost £11.50, with prices starting at £5.50 for concessions. Opened in the 1930s, this unheated outdoor pool is open to the public 365 days a year. Located near Gospel Oak train station, it's ideal for those who don't feel ready to brave the ponds. Swimming sessions start at £4.80 for adults and £2.00 for concessions, with no need to book ahead (but you may need to queue if it's busy). At Green Lanes in Stoke Newington, you can go for an open-water swim or try your hand at kayaking at the West Reservoir. It's not for the faint-hearted – temperatures are low, but it's a great spot to get used to the cold water in a beautiful setting. Once you're done, warm up with a coffee at the waterside cafe. Open water swimming – which is available between 7am and 6pm – costs £13.15. Sessions are 30 minutes. Beckenham Place Park is the largest green space in Lewisham, and although you'll get the feel of wild swimming, lifeguards are on hand to ensure everything is safe, and you can hire kayaks or paddle boards at certain times too. Whichever water-based activity you choose, the lake offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle. One-hour sessions cost £7.40 for non-residents. Lewisham locals pay a little less, at £6.80. Fancy hitting up one of London's most iconic 'open water' swimming locations? Head to Serpentine Lido in Hyde Park. Here you can swim surrounded by nature, before drying off in the Lido Cafe Bar with a fresh lunch and a glass of wine. If you don't want to swim, but fancy checking out the views, waterside tables are available. For a full day at the lido, it's just £7.50. According to the website, Serpentine Lido will reopen for the weekend on May 17, and then fully from 24 May. If you've got kids in tow, Hillingdon Lido is a great shout. The 1930s Grade II-listed, 50m open-air swimming pool oozes art deco charm, and is considered a 'hidden gem.' Not only are there stunning fountains to play around in, but there's also a new, heated shallow splash pool for little ones. It's close to Ruislip Lido, a sandy (man-made) beach with a lake beside it, though swimming is not permitted there. Also ideal for families, there's an ice-cream shop and play areas suited for kids. Worth the journey if you fancy a day in nature. Tickets cost £11 for non-residents. Let's be honest, this is the UK, and we're not always guaranteed good weather. More Trending And if the heavens open this weekend, Finchley Lido Leisure Centre has your back. This indoor complex combines a pool with slides, a wave machine and jets. There's also a cinema and a bowling alley for some post-swim fun. Outside, there is a 25-metre swimming pool open during the summer months. Swimming costs £8.30.
