CNN data analyst says Americans agree with Trump on keeping Iran nuke free: A lot more popular than ‘would think'

The majority of Americans agree with Donald Trump that Iran should not be able to produce nuclear weapons, analysis by CNN has shown. Just under 80 percent of U.S. adults surveyed by the broadcaster in April – some two months before the latest escalations in the Middle East – agreed with the president, with clear majorities among both Democrats and Republicans. 'I think it's a complicated picture overall, but on this particular question and overall, I feel like there's more support for Donald Trump 's positions than is commonly acknowledged,' CNN data analyst Harry Enten said, in a segment on Thursday. Some 79 percent of adults said that Iran 'cannot get nuclear weapons,' Enten said, adding that, when split down party lines, 83 percent of Republicans and 79 percent of Democrats agreed. 'When you get 79 percent of Democrats and 83 percent of Republicans agreeing on anything, you know that that position is the very clear majority in this country,' Enten said. 'And so the American public is with Donald Trump. They definitely oppose Iran getting nuclear weapons.' Back in February, Trump signed a national security presidential memorandum restoring 'maximum pressure' on Tehran aimed at 'denying Iran all paths to a nuclear weapon, and countering Iran's malign influence abroad'. ' AMERICA FIRST means many GREAT things, including the fact that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!' the president wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday. However, despite this unwavering stance, he has yet to decide on whether the U.S. should intervene in the escalation conflict between Israel and Iran. On Thursday the president said he would decide on whether to order U.S. warplanes to strike Iranian nuclear facilities within the next two weeks depending on whether or not Tehran engages in talks over ending their nuclear weapons program. Back on CNN, Enten discussed the opinion of the American people on entering the conflict to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capability, noting again that polling had been done in April – prior to the recent escalations with Israel. 'If you buy Donald Trump's theory of the case… Iran's trying to make a nuclear weapon… overall, you get the slight plurality. I mean, it's within the margin of error, but the slight plurality of Americans actually favor U.S. airstrikes (48 percent) compared to 47 percent opposing it,' Enten said. However, he noted: 'If Iran is trying to make nuclear weapons… 69 percent of Republicans, the clear vast majority of Republicans favor U.S. airstrikes on Iran, on their nuclear facilities.'

‘Awful, awful, awful': Polls show Trump's net approval is at its ‘worst'

When describing the aggregate polling around President Donald Trump, CNN host and analyst Harry Enten described the polling with one word: hurt. On Friday, Enten shared the latest polling from Quinnipiac University and Associated Press-NORC that show Trump's net approval down at minus 16 and minus 21, respectively. The numbers represent the difference between those who disapprove of Trump's handling of the presidency and those who approve. 'Awful, awful, awful for both of these pollsters,' Enten said. 'Where we are right now — both Quinnipiac and AP-NORC — the worst for Donald Trump in this term so far. He is very much, way, way, way underwater, at least in these two polls." Immigration continues to be a 'strength,' Enten said. But there's a caveat. 'You go back to June 1, he was at plus 4 points,' Enten said. 'Look at where he is now: minus 2 points in the aggregate. That is a drop of 6 points in only about two weeks time. The only thing that's happened over the last two weeks is obviously Donald Trump's ramped-up immigration, hawkish agenda.' 'The American people are saying, 'No, we do not like that,'' he continued. 'And they have turned against the president on his core strength issue of immigration, he is underwater on the issue that is strongest for him.' Quinnipiac also found that 38% of voters approve of Trump's administration, while AP-NORC found that 39% held a positive view of Trump's work during his second term. Quinnipiac was conducted among 1,265 self-identified registered voters between June 5 and 9, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8%. The AP-NORC poll surveyed 1,158 adults between June 5 and 9, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4%. Since these polls were taken, protests broke out in Los Angeles after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids south of downtown. This led to violent clashes between Los Angeles police and protesters, along with daily protests across the region, Trump deploying the National Guard and the United States Marines and a growing war of words between the president and Gov. Gavin Newsom. G7 countries are ‘not big fans' of Donald Trump, new poll says

President Donald Trump lacks confidence among the G7 countries and their leaders, according to a new Pew Research Center poll. 'The countries outside of the U.S. who are part of the G7, those folks — not big fans of Donald Trump, not big fans at all," CNN host and analyst Harry Enten said Monday. Enten referred to the latest Pew poll, where the other six G7 countries have 60% or higher in no confidence in Trump. Japan's no-confidence rating stood at 61%, the United Kingdom is at 62%, Italy is at 68%, Canada is at 77%, France is at 78% and Germany is at 81%. 'We're looking at a supermajority in all six of these G7 countries besides the U.S., they do not like Donald Trump,' Enten continued. 'They have no confidence in his to do the right thing when it comes to world affairs, and I think that will inform some of the leaders there in those countries...' The median lack of confidence in the president has also grown from where it was during former President Joe Biden's presidency. As of 2024, Biden's median no-confidence was 51%, while Trump's as of 2025 is at 73%, according to Pew. 'We're talking about allies,' Enten emphasized before he addressed Canada's souring relationship with the United States. Pew's new poll showed that 91% of Canadians want to reduce their country's trade reliance on the United States, while 9% disagree. 'You never see numbers that high!' Enten said. 'I'm laughing because it's just unprecedented.' Enten's comments came before Trump left the G7 early due to the intensifying war between Israel and Iran following Israel's surprise attack on June 13.
