Haryana BJP govt faces firestorm as it scraps hiring of 8,600 jobs, Cong cries ‘voter betrayal'
Unemployment has continued to be a key issue in Haryana politics. In August 2024, two months before the Haryana Assembly polls, the BJP-led government announced direct recruitment for 5,666 posts in police force, one of the most sought-after government jobs in the state. At the same time, 3,053 Group C posts were also advertised, even as the recruitment process for 25,000 contractual posts across departments was also started. In October 2024, the BJP created history in Haryana by winning 48 of the 90 Assembly seats and forming the government for the third consecutive time. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, fulfilling a pre-poll promise, took oath after the 25,000 selected candidates for contractual posts were issued appointment letters. Last week, however, about 10 months after the BJP's return to power, the Saini government cancelled the recruitment for 5,666 regular posts in the police and 3,053 Group C posts. While the government has defended this move, saying that the cancellations were done for 'bringing in more transparency and ensuring systematic recruitment', the Opposition is now up in arms against the BJP, accusing it of 'misleading and cheating the youth in the name of votes'. The Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC), which oversees recruitments in the state, cancelled it for both the police and Group C posts. The HSSC says all these posts will be announced after the Common Eligibility Test (CET), which is expected to be held in July. The candidates who successfully clear this test and figure in the merit list are considered eligible for Group C and Group D posts in government departments. The Saini government's flip-flop on the recruitment issue has given ammunition to the Opposition parties to attack the BJP, with the principal Opposition Congress calling it a 'betrayal of voters'. Senior Congress leader and ex-CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, 'It was as such a poll gimmick played by the BJP before October 2024 Assembly elections. A few days before the Election Commission issued the notification, the BJP announced these government jobs to get more votes. They got it and won. Since then, they did not fill these posts and have now cancelled the same. The youth of Haryana have understood the BJP's strategies and will give them a befitting reply.' Hooda also alleged that 'Not even a single promise that the BJP made in its manifesto has been fulfilled so far. What's happening in Hisar? Youth are being lathi-charged for raising the legitimate demand not to slash their scholarships. It is a completely non-performing government.' He was referring to an agitation by the students of Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricultural University in Hisar on June 10. The All India Congress Committee (AICC)'s general secretary and MP Randeep Surjewala said, 'There's a saying that all the people cannot be fooled all the time. But, it seems that Nayab Singh Saini had made this saying seem untrue. Over 8,500 posts that were advertised before the October 2024 Assembly polls have now been cancelled. The Saini government is misleading the youth.' Referring to the Punjab and Haryana High Court's decision to quash a 2019 state government notification that gave 10 additional marks on the basis of socio-economic criteria for Group B and C posts, Surjewala said, 'Over 13.5 lakh youth have enrolled for the CET. In the last five years, only one CET exam was conducted. The Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the result for that examination due to discrepancies. They fooled the youth that the socio-economic criteria's additional marks shall be given… The CM now says he will challenge it in a higher court.' He also said, 'About 50,000 contractual employees were recruited before 2024 Assembly polls through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam. Of these, now 4,000 have been thrown out. The fate of the remaining is also uncertain.' Surjewala added, 'Why is the government cancelling these recruitments? If the government was not serious in making these recruitments, why did they announce it in the first place? These BJP ministers and MLAs need to be asked these questions. Otherwise, the BJP will again advertise posts ahead of the next elections and then cancel it after the polls.' HSSC chairman Himmat Singh, however, in an X post, said that the date for the CET shall be announced soon and applicants should continue their preparations for it. He added that with 13.48 lakh youth enrolled for the CET, all the recruitments for Group C and D posts will now be held after the CET's results.

Stung by repeated cheating cases, Haryana introduces AI to monitor Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test
1 2 3 Rohtak: Stung by repeated incidents of candidates using unfair means to clear entrance exams, Haryana govt is now going to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) surveillance for its upcoming teacher eligibility test — a first for the state. The Haryana Board of School Education has completed all preparations for the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET), scheduled to be held on July 26 and 27. Speaking to the press on Thursday, board chairman Pawan Kumar revealed that over 4.05 lakh candidates will appear for HTET this year, with Gurugram district contributing 42,783 candidates, the highest in the state. "In a significant move towards transparency and fairness, the board has decided to implement an AI-based monitoring system that will track and identify examinees in real time," he said. As soon as a candidate enters the examination zone, the system will fetch their entire data history. What makes this system more effective is its ability to identify if the same individual appeared in previous exams under a different name. If any such discrepancy is detected, or if a candidate is found to have used unfair means in past examinations, the AI system will flag them immediately. "The goal is clear: we want a fair and cheating-free examination process," said Pawan Kumar. "This is why we've taken the bold step of integrating AI into our exam surveillance. It's a first for HTET, and we believe it will set a strong precedent for future exams," he said. This year, more than 600 examination centres will be established across the state. Each centre will host approximately 310 candidates. The exam will be conducted across three levels: Level 1 (PRT) will see the participation of 82,917 candidates; Level 2 (TGT) will have 2,01,517 candidates; and Level 3 (PGT) will include 1,20,943 candidates. Chief secy reviews CET preparations Chandigarh: Haryana chief secretary Anurag Rastogi on Thursday held a meeting with all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to review preparations for the Common Eligibility Test (CET)expected to be held next month. The test is being conducted for recruitment to group C and D posts in Haryana govt. The chief secretary emphasised the need to ensure the examination is conducted in a free, fair, smooth, and transparent manner. During the meeting, it was informed that around 13,48,697 applications were received for the CET. HSSC has proposed to hold the examination over two-three days. The chief secretary directed all DCs to begin the process of identifying suitable examination centres in their districts within three days. He emphasised that centres should be chosen keeping in mind security, logistics, transportation accessibility, and capacity to accommodate candidates.

Why Haryana govt has approved withdrawal of 8,600 govt job ads & what it will mean for aspirants
The Congress had accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by offering jobs while the elections were in progress. Acting on this, the ECI had told the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) to halt announcing the results for the constable positions. While all these jobs were advertised in different months of 2024, the Nayab Saini government advertised 5,600 constable posts on 16 August last year, just hours before the Election Commission of India's (ECI) announcement of the Haryana assembly elections, prompting the Congress to lodge a complaint with the ECI. Gurugram: The Haryana government has given the go-ahead for the withdrawal of advertisements for more than 8,600 government jobs, saying they will be advertised again and filled under new Common Eligibility Test (CET) guidelines framed earlier this year, triggering fresh uncertainty among thousands of job aspirants. Apart from the constable jobs, the Haryana government has also decided to withdraw the advertisements for 3,053 Group C job vacancies issued by the HSSC in 2024. In Haryana, Group C jobs refer to a significant category of government positions that typically involve clerical, technical, and various support roles across numerous state government departments, boards, corporations, and other government-controlled agencies. A senior Haryana government official confirmed the decision, saying the withdrawn positions will now be filled based on the results of a fresh Common Eligibility Test (CET), the dates for which are expected to be announced soon. Speaking to ThePrint, Bhupinder Chauhan, an HSSC member, said that while the Commission is yet to receive official communication from the government, he had learned of the impending decision. 'We, at the Commission, have gathered that the government has been receiving numerous representations from individuals and job aspirants. Since the last CET was held in 2022, many aspirants who had not attained the age of 18 at the time of the last CET but are now eligible expressed concerns about being left out and not getting a chance anytime soon. They wanted the recruitments to be done after holding a fresh CET so that they too could compete for the jobs,' Chauhan explained. 'As per my information, the government has taken a decision based on these representations. The recruitments will now be held on the basis of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (Process of Recruitment of Group C and D posts) Rules, 2025. Under these rules, 10 times the candidates of the total number of jobs will be shortlisted, unlike four times under the earlier rules,' he added. Himmat Singh, Chairman of the HSSC, told ThePrint that decisions regarding requisition of posts and withdrawal of advertisements lie with the government. Hence, he, as chairman of the HSSC, wasn't in a position to comment on it. In a post on his official Instagram handle, he addressed candidates, saying, 'Dear candidates, we will soon announce the exam date for CET 2025 (Group C). Therefore, all candidates are advised to focus completely on their studies and stay away from any kind of rumours. The Commission extends its best wishes to all the upcoming examinees.' According to HSSC rules, a person who clears the CET is considered for government jobs for 3 years from the date of result declaration. An improved score in a subsequent attempt restarts this 3-year validity period. The last CET for Group C posts was conducted in November 2022. The government's decision to withdraw the advertisements has drawn sharp criticism from the Opposition, particularly the Congress. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala launched a scathing attack on the BJP government, accusing it of betraying the state's youth by withdrawing thousands of Group C job vacancies. In a blistering statement and video posted on social media X, Surjewala said: 'The BJP has scripted a film of deception, fraud, and betrayal against Haryana's youth. The writer and actor of this film is Mr. Nayab Saini, the director is Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar, and the producer is Mr. Narendra Modi. The film is titled 'Fool the People, continue fooling them'.' 'On August 14, 2024, just three hours before the assembly election announcement, Mr. Nayab Saini dangled these 8,653 jobs before the youth, promising grand dreams and even vowing not to take the CM's oath until these jobs were filled. But it was all a hollow promise. Now, Saini saunters around cracking jokes, enjoying helicopter rides, while our youth wander aimlessly, knocking on doors for a future that's been snatched away,' he added. Deadline for CET registration extended by 48 hours in Haryana
Following strong demand from applicants and opposition leaders, the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) on Thursday announced a 48-hour extension for online registration of the Common Eligibility Test (CET) for Group C posts. According to a public notice issued by HSSC, applicants can now register on the official portal until June 14, instead of the previous deadline of June 12. The last date for fee submission has also been extended to June 16, replacing the earlier deadline of June 14. Opposition leaders had earlier urged HSSC to extend the registration deadline for CET Group C posts, citing technical issues that prevented many candidates from completing the process. After a three-year gap, HSSC announced CET in May, a preliminary written examination designed to shortlist candidates for various government roles across Haryana. Originally, online registration for CET Group C posts was open from May 28 to June 12, with June 14 set as the last date for fee submission. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said many applicants were unable to upload their documents due to technical glitches in the official portals on Thursday, and demanded an extension of the registration deadline.
