Meet the K-pop Group with highest rankings, dubbed as most successful, even dethrones BTS and BLACKPINK

The K-pop industry is more competitive than we can ever imagine. In this cut-throat race, one must be living under a rock to believe that BTS is still at number 1. The seven-member group, consisting of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V (Kim Taehyung), and Jungkook—has now been replaced by another K-pop boy group that topped this month's rankings. Who would have thought that even BTS's June reunion after military service couldn't bring them back to the top spot? According to the Korea Brand Reputation Index (as reported by Soompi), SEVENTEEN holds the highest ranking of June 2025. The group, consisting of Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino, saw a sharp rise in popularity, reaching a brand value score of 7,027,417. This marks a significant 22.66% increase from their score in May. As per the website, the group's keyword analysis, top-ranking phrases included 'MINITEEN,' 'Bad Influence,' and 'HAPPY BURSTDAY.' The most associated terms with the group were 'record,' 'donate,' and 'reveal', apart from their recent album Happy Birthday. SEVENTEEN also scored an impressive 91.78 per cent positive response in their positivity-negativity analysis. On the other hand, BTS who topped the ranking list in May, saw a decline in ranking. The group slipped to the second spot with a 6,843,685 brand reputation score in June. All seven members are currently discharged from the military. While RM, Jin, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook completed their mandatory military service towards the nation, the last member left is Suga who has unofficially wrapped up his duty reportedly using holiday leave. However, his official discharge date is 21 June. BTS recently marked their much-awaited June reunion at FESTA, their annual celebration of the group anniversary on June 13 and 14. Besides BTS, others on the list include BIGBANG with a score of 4,318,118. SHINee took the fourth place for this month with a brand reputation index of 3,639,299 while Stray Kids claimed the fifth spot with their total score of 3,042,888 for June. The top 10 boy groups of this month are in order-- SEVENTEEN, BTS, BIGBANG, SHINee, Stray Kids, TWS, TXT, HIGHLIGHT, BOYNEXTDOOR and THE BOYZ. Not only did SEVENTEEN surpass other popular boy bands this month, but they also outshined BLACKPINK in the overall reputation rankings. While BLACKPINK, consisting of Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé, topped among girl groups, their brand value score of 6,278,657 still falls short when compared to SEVENTEEN's. SEVENTEEN has increased its global recognition for quite some time now. Their partnership with UNESCO helped them with their global recognition. They were also appointed as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth and the launch of the "Going Together" scheme. Earlier this month, SEVENTEEN debuted on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter, which hailed them as the 'biggest and most successful boy band of 2024–25.' Even their album sales surpassed global stars like Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish, drawing comparisons to Taylor Swift and Drake. Their 2023–2024 Asia tour brought in an impressive $98.4 million from just 24 shows, making it the highest-grossing K-pop tour of the year, as per a report of Billboard.

SEVENTEEN Achieves Seventh No. 1 on Top Album Sales Chart With ‘HAPPY BURSTDAY'

SEVENTEEN achieves its seventh No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart as the group's latest release, SEVENTEEN 5th Album 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' debuts atop the list dated June 14. The set sold 46,000 copies in the United States in the week ending June 5, according to Luminate. SEVENTEEN scored its first No. 1 on Top Album Sales in 2021. In turn, with seven No. 1s in the 2020s, the act ties TOMORROW X TOGETHER for the most No. 1s among groups, and the second-most among all acts in the 2020s. Only Taylor Swift, with nine No. 1s on Top Album Sales in the 2020s, has more this decade. Billboard's Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart's history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album (TEA) units and streaming equivalent album (SEA) units. Miley Cyrus' Something Beautiful debuts at No. 2 on Top Album Sales with 27,000 copies sold, marking her 15th top 10 (inclusive of titles credited to her Disney Channel character Hannah Montana). Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem falls to No. 3 (16,000; down 45%) after two weeks atop the list. Two Swift albums return to the top 10 after an outpouring of fan support following the news that Swift had acquired her Big Machine Records-era music catalog. Her 2017 album reputation reenters at No. 4 (15,000; up 1,183%) and her self-titled 2006 self-titled debut reenters at No. 6 (8,000; up 955%). Kendrick Lamar's chart-topping To Pimp a Butterfly reenters at No. 5 on Top Album Sales (11,000; up 639%) after a 10th anniversary reissue on multiple vinyl variants, as well as a cassette tape. Another 10th anniversary reissue, this time from Sufjan Stevens, also impacts the chart, as his Carrie & Lowell reenters at No. 7 (8,000; up 2,656%). (For both Lamar and Stevens, all versions of their respective albums, old and new, are combined for tracking and charting purposes.) Garbage's Let All That We Imagine Be the Light debuts at No. 8 with just over 7,000 sold, securing the band its fourth top 10-charting set. Lamar's former No. 1 GNX falls 5-9 (a little more than 7,000; down 15%) and Aesop Rock nabs his first top 10-charting effort with his new release Black Hole Superette debuting at No. 10 (7,000). SEVENTEEN Have a Good Time Being a ‘Bad Influence' in Futuristic Video For Pharrell-Produced Single

SEVENTEEN slink into a gloomy, post-apocalyptic world filled with old school technology in the video for their Pharrell Williams-produced single 'Bad Influence.' The 13-member K-pop boy band dropped the visual from their new HAPPY BURSTDAY album on Wednesday (June 11) and fans will surely be picking through the arresting clip directed by Beomjin for days looking for Easter eggs. The video for the English-language single opens with the singers locked in reflective glass pentagons as they sing about wanting to have a good time while seeming like they're not having one at all. After escaping from the enclosure, they get chased around a brutalist structure by robot dogs singing, 'And I had time to think about it/ But life would be so much better without it/ I don't want it at all/ But, hey, I wanna have a good time' over Pharrell's insistent, fuzzed-out beat. Dressed in Blade Runner-like leather jackets designed by Japanese fashion house sacai, they stand around while an unseen member plugs an analog cord into a headphone jack that reads 'Good' as an old school dot matrix printer spits out the lyrics and a few of the guys ghost ride their old school muscle cars. The sci-fi action takes a bizarre turn halfway through when they enter a red zone filled with white mannequin heads wearing blindfolds as one of the singer's puts a checkmark next to 'bad' on a checklist that includes 'lost,' 'sad,' 'raw,' 'happy,' 'innocent' and other emotions. There is also an M.C. Escher-like stairway to nowhere, a bath in a swamp of vintage audio tape, contemplative posing on a pile of tires and moody standing around in dimly lit rooms in the dream sequence-like series of shots that leave more questions than answers HAPPY BURSTDAY debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album chart, landing the group their seventh top 10-charting album. HYBE accused of delaying SEVENTEEN's HAPPY BURSTDAY album's shipment to promote other groups

SEVENTEEN marked a significant milestone by releasing their new album, HAPPY BURSTDAY, on their 10th anniversary. Despite the excitement surrounding the album's release, some fans who pre-ordered their copies are still awaiting delivery. This delay has led to frustration among them. Fans have now accused the management company HYBE of poor distribution management, which they believe may impact the group's promotional activities and engagement. SEVENTEEN's HAPPY BURSTDAY album faces shipment delay SEVENTEEN 's May 26 comeback generated great buzz on social media. However, the excitement was marred by the long period of wait for fans to get their hands on the physical album. That's due to HYBE Labels abruptly delaying the shipping of the album and closing off pre-orders earlier than expected. As per their latest Weverse notice, "the shipping start date has been changed for some orders" due to "insufficient" production quantity which was available for pre-order starting Mon, April 28, 2025 (KST). According to them, the demand for the albums exceeds their availability for supply. This disappointed the fans, who took to online platforms to express their concerns about the issue. Check out fan reactions to HAPPY BURSTDAY shipment delay Fans accused HYBE of intentionally withholding stock of SEVENTEEN's HAPPY BURSTDAY album to sabotage the group's promotions, allegedly to favor other HYBE groups. They pointed out that SEVENTEEN, being part of Pledis Entertainment, which was acquired by HYBE, might not be receiving the same level of support as groups formed by HYBE themselves. Fans expressed concerns that the limited album availability would negatively impact SEVENTEEN's music show wins and chart rankings. The reason for this was that many of the shows prioritize physical album sales over online streams. With fewer album sales in the second and third weeks potentially affecting their rankings, fans worry that this could hinder the group's overall success. Comments like "I was wondering why their sales only 2.4 million and not more" reflected fans' surprise, considering SEVENTEEN's usual success with album sales. Fans encouraged each other to "Keep emailing and commenting under their (SEVENTEEN/HYBE's) page" to express their dissatisfaction with the delay, highlighting the importance of the second and third weeks for maximizing album purchases.

SEVENTEEN's HAPPY BURSTDAY Tops 2025 K-Pop Album Sales So Far

Last Updated: HAPPY BURSTDAY becomes SEVENTEEN's fifth best-selling album in terms of first-week sales. Global K-pop group SEVENTEEN 's new album, HAPPY BURSTDAY, has made waves not only with its sound and performances but also with the massive first-week sales numbers. According to a statement by their agency Pledis Entertainment, HAPPY BURSTDAY recorded a staggering 2,521,208 physical copies sold in its first week. These sales were tracked from May 26 to June 1, based on data from Hanteo Chart. With this figure, SEVENTEEN now holds the record for the highest first-week album sales for any K-pop release in 2025 so far. This marks a significant achievement for the group. HAPPY BURSTDAY becomes SEVENTEEN's fifth-best-selling album in terms of first-week sales. The only albums that sold more in their opening weeks were SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN, FML, SPILL THE FEELS, and 17 IS RIGHT HERE, each of which crossed the 2.9 million mark. The timing of this release is also special. SEVENTEEN is currently celebrating their 10th debut anniversary and this album is their fifth full-length release. To mark the decade-long journey, the group hosted a three-day event in Seoul last week. The celebration included a one-of-a-kind performance on the Jamsu Bridge in central Seoul. This is a historic moment because SEVENTEEN became the first K-pop act ever to perform on the bridge. At the celebration, member Mingyu shared the meaning behind the title, saying, 'This year marks our 10th anniversary, and since it's our fifth full-length album, we titled it 'Happy Burstday.' It's a celebration of our 10 years and a combination of the words 'burst,' as in explosion or release and 'birthday.'" While members Jeonghan and Wonwoo were absent due to their ongoing military service, the rest of the group delivered a memorable show. The hour-long concert included a total of 12 tracks including songs like Rock With You, God of Music and Very Nice. The night ended with a fireworks display over the Han River. HAPPY BURSTDAY brings together a wide mix of collaborators. Alongside SEVENTEEN's longtime producers Bumzu and Shannon Bae, the album features big names like Pharrell, Timbaland, BTS' longtime producer PDogg and K-indie artist Ha Hyunsang. The album also includes solo songs by each member. These tracks give fans a new way to enjoy their unique voices and styles. SEVENTEEN consists of 13 members: Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino. First Published: June 03, 2025, 09:11 IST
