Indraprastha University to set up IKS centre, echoes guru-shishya parampara
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) in Delhi is ready to set up a new centre to promote traditional Indian education systems and knowledge practices. Named the In-Situ Centre for Indian Knowledge System and Technology Innovation (CIKTSI), the centre will function from the university's Dwarka campus and focus on connecting ancient learning traditions with present-day academic and research initiative aims to revive the essence of the guru-shishya parampara -- a system where learning takes place through close guidance, real-life experience, and values-based effort is about bringing India's ancient wisdom into today's classrooms and research spaces,' said GGSIPU Vice Chancellor Professor Mahesh Verma. 'The guru-shishya tradition was always more than just knowledge transfer; it was about shaping individuals through personal connection and practical learning.' Initially, the centre will operate in a self-financed mode under the University School of Education, led by Dean Prof. Saroj Sharma. A working committee made up of faculty from different departments will steer its Sharma noted that the centre's goals align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages the inclusion of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) in modern education. 'We want to build something that allows innovation to grow from within our own knowledge traditions,' she is expected to serve as a space where traditional and modern ideas meet. It will develop new courses based on Indian knowledge, design interdisciplinary research projects, support startups and entrepreneurship, and partner with industry and global centre will also work on preserving traditional practices digitally and promoting community-based university said that through CIKTSI, it hopes to contribute to sustainable development and cultural awareness, while encouraging students to explore their roots alongside modern technologies and a time when education is rapidly changing, GGSIPU's move brings attention to the value of older systems of learning—not as outdated ideas, but as tools still useful in shaping thoughtful, skilled, and grounded individuals.

IP University to establish Indian Knowledge System Centre to align with ancient ‘guru-shishya parampara
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has announced the establishment of a new centre focused on reviving India's traditional educational values and knowledge heritage. Named the In-Situ Centre for Indian Knowledge System and Technology Innovation (CIKTSI), the initiative will be housed at the university's Dwarka campus, said an official statement of GGSIPU. It aims to align closely with the ancient 'guru-shishya parampara' — a tradition rooted in experiential learning, mentorship and holistic development, the statement added. GGSIPU Vice Chancellor Mahesh Verma emphasized the philosophical foundation of the centre. 'This initiative is rooted in the vision of blending India's ancient wisdom with modern education and research. It echoes the essence of the guru-shishya parampara, which has always emphasized mentorship, experiential learning and character formation,' he said. The centre will initially be run in self-financed mode from the University School of Education under the leadership of its Dean Prof. Saroj Sharma, the statement said. A multidisciplinary working committee, comprising the members from various academic schools of the university will guide the centre's integrated development, it added. Prof. Sharma highlighted that the vision behind CIKTSI is deeply inspired by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into mainstream education. 'The centre will foster collaboration across disciplines and promote innovation grounded in India's rich intellectual traditions,' she said. The centre will serve as a hub for a wide range of activities, including curriculum development incorporating IKS, creation of new IKS-based courses, promotion of interdisciplinary research and innovation, skill and capacity building, entrepreneurship incubation, industry collaboration, digital preservation, community outreach and global academic partnerships. According to the university, CIKTSI will also contribute towards cultural revival, sustainable development and strengthening of national identity by bridging traditional knowledge with contemporary applications.

Delhi: IP University to introduce orphan quota
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU) in Dwarka, west Delhi will introduce an 'orphan quota' across various programmes from the 2025-26 academic session, a university official said on Friday. In the last academic session, the university introduced a 'single girl child quota'. 'The university's academic council (AC) has approved the introduction of this quota, effective from the academic session 2025-26. Under this quota, one additional seat will be reserved in each of the university schools and programmes, and the selected students will be eligible for 100% fee waiver under the university's EWS scheme,' the official said. The university's vice chancellor, Mahesh Verma, said that the university aims to provide education to all, including orphans who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic or other reasons. 'The university will also provide financial assistance to these students under various government schemes,' Verma said. The university held an academic council and discussed introducing a separate PhD programme for working professionals, lateral entry in MBA (Fire and Industrial Safety), and adding Spanish and other popular foreign languages to certificate courses. 'Other decisions include introducing a five-year BA-MA Philosophy program, four-year BEd Special Education programs in three new disciplines and a post-MSc Diploma in Radiological Physics. The university will also establish an in-situ centre for Indian Knowledge System (IKS) and technology innovation to promote Indian knowledge traditions,' the university official said.

IP University introduces orphan quota, DU extends single girl child quota for postgraduate students
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU) has introduced the orphan quota across all its courses. The new quota is separate from the single girl child quota which was introduced last year, an official said on Friday. Under the orphan quota, which will be effective from the academic session 2025-26, the university will reserve one additional seat for eligible candidates in each programme, and the selected candidate will be entitled to 100% fee waiver. IPU Vice-Chancellor Mahesh Verma said the move aims at providing education to all, including children orphaned during the COVID-19 pandemic. Delhi University (DU) had introduced the orphan quota in 2023. Meanwhile, DU has decided to extend the single girl child quota to postgraduate courses from the upcoming academic session. It had introduced the facility in undergraduate courses last year. DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said the single girl child quota was introduced to encourage girls to further their education, especially since many families do not prioritise higher education for girls even today. Both quotas are supernumerary, which means the reserved seats are extra and do not disrupt the existing seat matrix.

The university's Academic Council has approved this new quota, which will take effect from the 2025-26 academic session. Under the scheme, one extra seat will be reserved in each of the university's schools and programmes specifically for orphaned students. Those admitted under this quota will also receive a full fee waiver under the university's EWS (Economically Weaker Section) scheme, as reported by news agency PTI. Padma Shri Prof (Dr) Mahesh Verma, the Vice Chancellor of IPU, stated that the university is committed to providing access to quality education for all, including orphan children who have lost their parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic or other circumstances. The university also plans to assist these students by helping them secure financial support through various government welfare schemes. With this move, IP University will be among the first universities in India to implement such a quota. Detailed guidelines and eligibility criteria will soon be published on the university's official website. During the Academic Council meeting, several other academic changes and additions were also discussed. Among these is the introduction of a dedicated PhD programme for working professionals, allowing them to pursue research degrees while continuing their careers. The council has also approved lateral entry for the MBA programme in Fire and Industrial Safety, providing more flexibility for candidates with relevant qualifications. In addition, the university plans to expand its foreign language offerings by adding certificate courses in Spanish and other widely spoken international languages. New academic programmes will include a five-year integrated BA-MA course in Philosophy and four-year BEd Special Education programmes in three additional disciplines. A Post-MSc Diploma in Radiological Physics will also be introduced to cater to the growing demand in the healthcare sector. To further promote Indian heritage and innovation, the university will set up an 'In-Situ Centre for Indian Knowledge System and Technology Innovation," which will focus on preserving and promoting India's traditional knowledge systems and technological advancements. Meanwhile, the Narela campus of IP University will soon become operational with new programmes like MSc in Microbiology, along with several certificate and diploma courses, adding to the university's expanding academic infrastructure.
