22,000 tribal students set world record with 108 Surya Namaskars

Visakhapatnam: The students of the tribal-dominated district of Alluri Sitarama Raju created history by entering the Guinness Book of World Records with their sterling performance of 108 Surya Namaskars (Sun Salutations). More than 22,000 students, including over 13,000 girls and 9,000 boys from the tribal community of the district, performed Surya Namaskars at a single venue. The Andhra University Engineering College ground became the venue for the mega display in the presence of Union minister for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav, Anakapalli MP CM Ramesh and state ministers Nara Lokesh and Satya Kumar Yadav. All these students, from the fourth to the 10th standard, are from Ashram or residential schools in the newly formed Alluri Sitarama Raju district. Around 80% of the total strength is from APRJC, KGBV schools, Ekalavya Model School, and ashram schools in the district. Interestingly, the same Alluri district students created a record 74 days ago in the district. Union Ayush minister Prataprao Jadhav appreciated the students for their sterling performance. He said not only Andhra Pradesh but the country is honoured with the students' performance. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has forayed into the Guinness Book of World Records for running a large water conservation campaign. This happened between March 21 and 28, 2025. During this time, 5,33,642 people took a water-saving pledge. This was the highest number ever, making it a world record. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar received the Guinness certificate for BWSSB. The Guinness World Records official, Swapnil Dangarikar, gave the award. The event was held at a hotel in Bengaluru. Shivakumar thanked BWSSB for spreading awareness. He said water saving is very important in cities. He shared that Bengaluru uses treated water for everything, even for washing cars, adding that in Delhi there is a separate pipelines for drinking and non-drinking water. He also said that 35% of people do not pay water bills. Still, BWSSB works hard to supply water. The government is planning to improve the water system. The goal is to supply water to 2 crore people in the city. Shivakumar said they will revise water prices to reduce losses. BWSSB now loses around Rs 400–500 crore every year. The price changes will be like those used in the transport system.

HM seeks people's support for success of ‘Yogandhra'

Vizianagaram: Home Minister and in-charge minister for Vizianagaram Vangalapudi Anitha, has called upon all stakeholders to work collectively to make the 'Yogandhra' programme a grand success. The initiative, part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to integrate yoga into daily life, aims to set a world record with five lakh people performing yoga at a single venue in Visakhapatnam on June 21. At a review meeting held at the Collectorate on Tuesday, Minister Anitha was joined by Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad and Roads & Buildings Minister B C Janardhan Reddy. Minister Anitha stated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was committed to conducting the programme with great prestige in line with the Prime Minister's call. She emphasised that the success of the event requires the support of every individual. She highlighted that yoga awareness programmes have been underway across the State for the past one month to mobilise public participation. She expressed confidence that the large-scale yoga session will draw national attention to Visakhapatnam and secure a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The Minister stressed the importance of shared responsibility among officials and public representatives in ensuring smooth execution. To facilitate the movement of participants, special buses will be arranged and essential amenities like washrooms mapped along the travel routes. Emergency medical services and traffic management plans are also in place. Heavy vehicles will be restricted on national highways to ensure free movement of buses. District Collector Dr B R Ambedkar announced that 36,000 participants from Vizianagaram district have been prepared, with a target to send at least 30,000 to Visakhapatnam. A total of 660 buses will operate on two routes, with each bus assigned a liaison officer. A special focus has been given to mobilising 15,000 hostel students through colleges, while the remaining participants are being arranged through DRDA and MEPMA. A trial run of transportation logistics is scheduled for June 19.
