Sandra Oh Gives a Final Answer on Whether She Would Reprise Her 'Grey's Anatomy 'Role' 'as Cristina Yang

Sandra Oh spoke with the New York Times The Interview LIVE about whether she would ever return as Dr. Cristina Yang in Grey's Anatomy The Emmy winner told Lulu Garcia-Navarro "at this point, I don't think so" Oh, who earned five Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe for her work on Grey's Anatomy, hasn't returned to the show since her departure in 2014Paging Dr. Cristina Yang. At The New York Times The Interview LIVE event on June 12 at the Indeed Theater at Spring Studios, Sandra Oh spoke with The Interview co-host Lulu Garcia-Navarro about whether or not the award-winning actress would return as the doctor on Grey's Anatomy 11 years after her departure. 'What I have noticed, this is 10 years out from leaving the show, is the deep appreciation that I have for the people who appreciate Cristina. It is that love that has made me go, 'Oh. The fans really, really, really want it,' and for the first time, that's when I started opening up the idea,' Oh, 53, shares. 'But for me, I think to really be true to the people who enjoy your work, you have to be true to yourself. So at this point, I don't think so.' Oh, who earned five Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe for her work on Grey's Anatomy, hasn't returned to the show since her departure in 2014, and over the years, has been on the fence about the character's return. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. The character, however, has remained a part of the story through onscreen mentions, phone calls and written correspondences with other characters. Dr. Yang notably showed up to support her best friend Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, at the funeral for her husband Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, though a body double for Oh was used in the scene. Oh was one of the original stars of Grey's Anatomy when it premiered in 2005, which also featured Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, T.R. Knight, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Isaiah Washington and Dempsey. Since she exited Grey's Anatomy, Oh has held starring roles in series such as American Crime, The Chair, Invincible and Killing Eve, the latter of which earned her a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Eve Polastri. She has also starred in movies like Catfight, Raya and the Last Dragon, Turning Red, Umma and Quiz Lady, for which she was awarded an Emmy. Grey's Anatomy, the longest-running primetime medical drama in television history, recently concluded its 21st season and returns for season 22 this fall on ABC. Read the original article on People

Eric Dane not retiring despite ALS battle, loss of function in one arm

Eric Dane is making sure to celebrate the big and little wins in life after disclosing his ALS diagnosis. Dane, 52, announced in April he was battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. He's since detailed a few of the heartbreaking effects of the neurodegenerative disease, some of which included losing function in his limbs. Despite the new challenges in his life, the "Countdown" star revealed he's taking things one day at a time. "Today I'm doing great," Dane exclusively told Fox News Digital. "I'm approaching this thing one day at a time, and today's a good day. So, that's a win." WATCH: ERIC DANE CELEBRATES THE WINS AFTER ALS DIAGNOSIS Dane. best known for playing Dr. Mark Sloan in "Grey's Anatomy," from 2006 to 2012, recently disclosed a few of the difficulties he's faced since receiving his diagnosis while chatting with Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America." "Today I'm doing great. I'm approaching this thing one day at a time, and today's a good day. So that's a win." He told the acclaimed journalist he has one functioning arm due to the disease, and the right side of his body has "completely stopped working." Dane told Fox News Digital his story "was handled with delicacy and respect." "You know, Diane Sawyer is a class act and a legend," he said. "You know I couldn't have thought of anybody better to tell the story to than her." During the interview with Sawyer, which aired Tuesday, Dane opened up about the debilitating disease and explained how he's found hope in the physician who has been leading his care. "I'm very hopeful. ... I don't think this is the end of my story," he said. "And whether it is or it isn't, I'm gonna carry that idea with me. "That's what I got from [Dr. Merit Cudkowicz] when I met her. … There was a sense of hope I didn't get from other doctors that I met with." Dane said he had spoken previously with an organization that told him his doctors would be "there to ... monitor my decline — and that's not very helpful." Cudkowicz said the risk factors behind the disease can include anything from environmental concerns like plastics and bacteria in lakes to sports injuries. Dane, who revealed his diagnosis in April, said in another segment of the interview that aired Monday that he first started experiencing weakness in his right hand before seeking medical attention. "I didn't really think anything of it at the time," he told Sawyer. "I thought maybe I'd been texting too much and my hand was fatigued. A few weeks later, I noticed it'd gotten a little worse. I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist, and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist and said, 'This is way above my pay grade.' "I have one functioning arm," he said. "My left side is functioning. My right side has completely stopped working. [My left arm] is going. I feel like maybe a couple, a few more months, and I won't have my left hand either. It's sobering." While the "Euphoria" actor may have physical setbacks, he refuses to let his diagnosis derail his career. "I'm going to ride this till the wheels fall off," he told E! News. Working with Jensen Ackles on the new Amazon Prime series, "Countdown," has helped his mind and body stay alert. "It keeps me sharp," Dane told the outlet. "It keeps me moving forward, which is super important right now. "I feel great when I'm at work. Of course, there have been some sort of setbacks, but I feel pretty good. My spirit is always pretty buoyant. So, at the end of the day, that's all that matters." Dane told Fox News Digital his work in front of the camera hasn't changed since his diagnosis and is "the same thing in between action and cut." He portrays Nathan Blythe on the Prime Video crime drama television series, which also stars Ackles as LAPD Det. Mark Meachum. Ackles said his co-star "killed it every day" on set. "You know, I wasn't taking on any of the action, so I didn't physically have to sort of prepare myself for this role," Dane humbly acknowledged. " I just kind of, I know my lines, and I hit my mark. And I show up on time."

Grey's Anatomy star fights tears in emotional update after ALS diagnosis

Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria star Eric Dance was emotional as he gave a candid update on his health following his devastating ALS diagnosis earlier in the year Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane has tearfully opened up about his struggles following his ALS diagnosis. The actor, 52, revealed his rare health issue in April and has now labelled it "crushing". The star, also known for his role on Euphoria, appeared on stateside television to provide the emotional update. Speaking to the team on Good Morning America, Eric confessed: "I wake up every day and I'm immediately reminded that this is happening. ‌ As journalist Diane Sawyer candidly told him: "It's not a dream,' he repeated it back. "I don't think this is the end of my story," he went on. ‌ Elsewhere in the interview, a defiant Eric insisted: "I don't feel like this is the end of me." The full interview is set to air on Monday, but in another teaser Eric was seen to be looking emotional as Diane questioned his first thoughts on his diagnosis. ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It can also be referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, which is a rare motor neurone disease (MND). There is no cure with treatment only available to help ease the pain, which can be severe particularly on and around the nerves and joints. The condition usually affects those over 50 but can occur at any age and sadly there's no cure. In the UK, it affects 5,000 adults at any one time, according to the MND Association. Eric previously told PEOPLE: "I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. ‌ 'I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week.I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.' Eric revealed his diagnosis just weeks after calling off his divorce from Rebecca Gayheart. They had initially filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences for their reason. However, they appeared to have a change of heart as Rebecca filed documents to have the petition dismissed in March. The duo have two children together, daughters Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13. The couple tied the knot back in 2004 in Las Vegas after a whirlwind romance of 10 months. As well as his role as Mark 'McSteamy' Sloan in Greys Anatomy, Eric has also starred The Last Ship, the movie Burlesque, Kabul and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. According to IMDb, he will next appear on screen in TV series Countdown and Family Secrets, with the latter being in post-production.

'Grey's Anatomy' star Eric Dane speaks out for first time since revealing ALS diagnosis

Eric Dane has spoken out for the first time since revealing his ALS diagnosis. During a sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America," Dane said every day is a constant reminder of his diagnosis. "I wake up every day, and I'm immediately reminded that this is happening," Dane told Sawyer in a teaser clip of the upcoming interview that was posted on Facebook. Sawyer replied, "It's not a dream." Dane agreed, saying that his reality is not a dream. Although the "Greys' Anatomy" alum's life has changed since his diagnosis, he tried to stay optimistic, stating, "I don't think this is the end of my story. I don't feel like this is the end of me." At the end of the clip, Sawyer asks Dane who his first call was, which causes the actor to tear up. Dane announced his ALS diagnosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in April. "I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter," the 52-year-old "Euphoria" actor told People magazine. "I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of 'Euphoria' next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time." ALS is a "nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord," according to the Mayo Clinic. It causes loss of muscle control as well as breathing and eating problems and can cause dementia. Patients typically live for three years after being diagnosed with the disease, but some can live for decades, according to the ALS Association. Others who have battled ALS include Stephen Hawking, Yankees player Lou Gehrig, who died in 1941, "SpongeBob SquarePants" creator Stephen Hillenburg, and Jon Stone, the creator of "Sesame Street." Dane is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart and share two children, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13. Dane's full interview with Sawyer is set to air on "Good Morning America" on Monday, June 16, at 7 a.m. ET.

Grey's Anatomy's Lucas and Simone Are Done: Is Anybody Sorry?

No one is more surprised than I am to find myself saying — well, typing — that I am glad Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy finally broke up Lucas and Simone. (Read the full recap.) Am I alone in feeling that way? Maybe I should have spotted the warning signs ages ago. Even back in Season 19, when Lucas suggested that Simone's fiancé didn't see all of her, but 'I see you, and I love every single thing I see,' the red flags were there. I was so busy fanning myself — Niko Terho and Alexis Floyd can have great chemistry (watch below) — and so disliked Trey that it didn't occur to me what a d–k move Lucas was making by attempting to get Simone to call off the wedding. She had made up her mind to marry her ex, and there Lucas was, mansplaining to her why he was a better choice. An overture can be both romantic and wrong at the same time. Once they were together, Lucas seemed to make it his business to land Simone in enough hot water to brew a river of coffee. (Sam Sutton, anyone?) Then, upon learning that she'd had second thoughts about inviting him to move back into the residents' house — understandable after her near-Mrs. with Trey — Derek's nephew turned his shoulder so cold, it should've been treated for frostbite. Finally, just before Jo and Link's wedding, Lucas called time of death on his and Simone's relationship, and I… cheered. He didn't see anything wrong with being optimistic about the future, even if it was unrealistic. In response, she'd made the 'unforgivable' mistake of pointing out that, unlike a member of the wealthy and celebrated Shepherd family — which, to be clear, was implied but not stated — not everybody got bailed out when they rolled the dice and it didn't pay off. So, yeah, I'm not sad that a scalpel was stuck in this romance. I'm way more into Winston and Jules' budding flirtation and, if it ever actually happens, Amelia and Monica. Not for nothing, either, but Simone's interaction with the mystery man who may become a series regular (Grown-ish alum Trevor Jackson) was off-the-charts hot. Your thoughts?
