Milan make Xhaka offer but Bayer Leverkusen reject swap proposal
Reports in Italy claim that Milan have made an official offer to Bayer Leverkusen for midfielder Granit Xhaka, but the Bundesliga outfit have reportedly turned down the suggestions of a potential player swap deal with the Rossoneri. Milan fall short of Bayer Leverkusen's Xhaka valuation According to reports from SportMediaset (via Milan have made an offer of €10m to sign former Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Massimiliano Allegri's team are hoping to secure a deal for Luka Modric in the near future and also remain in talks with Valencia for 22-year-old midfielder Javi Guerra. In terms of outgoings, Milan could potentially offload centre-forward Alvaro Morata sooner than expected. Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta set to leave club to become Parma head coach
Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta is set to leave the club to become Parma's new head coach. The 29-year-old is expected to depart after five years at the north London club under Mikel Arteta. Cuesta had been in talks with the Serie A side for several weeks and is expected to travel to Italy on Wednesday. If the deal is completed, he will replace Cristian Chivu as Parma head coach after the 44-year-old succeeded Simone Inzaghi at Inter earlier this month. Cuesta gained experience as a youth coach at Atletico Madrid and Juventus before joining Arsenal's coaching staff in the summer of 2020. Former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka told The Athletic in 2024: 'I am sure that one day he (Cuesta) will be a manager for a big, big, big club. 'I say this because he knows what he wants, he has clear ideas, and he has clear goals that he wants to achieve. I am certain that one day we will see him on the touchline as a manager.' Advertisement Parma finished 16th in Serie A last season, five points above the relegation zone. Analysis by James McNicholas Carlos Cuesta has always had aspirations to be a manager, but this has probably come sooner than Arsenal or Mikel Arteta expected. The 29-year-old, along with the rest of Arteta's backroom staff, signed a new contract until 2027 during the course of last season. Cuesta's departure will naturally have an impact on Arteta's preseason preparations. The core of the current coaching group — the likes of Albert Stuivenberg, Cuesta, Nico Jover, and Inaki Cana — have been together since 2021. Cuesta becomes the first of Arteta's assistants to leave his post voluntarily. Arteta must now consider whether to replace Cuesta with a new assistant coach. He will doubtless frame this as an opportunity for renewal and evolution. Cuesta, meanwhile, follows Arteta's lead in taking an early leap into top-level management.

Milan set for key meeting with Bayer Leverkusen for Granit Xhakaa
Serie A side Milan are set to make in-roads in their move for Granit Xhaka and will soon have a key meeting for the midfielder. Daniele Longo has reported that contacts between the Swiss midfielder and Milan have led to a positive outcome and it has encouraged the Rossoneri to hold talks with Bayer Leverkusen. Advertisement As a result, the two clubs will have an initial meeting about the player and Milan will convince the German giants to sell Xhaka this summer. So far, Leverkusen's stance has been quite firm and new manager Erik ten Hag is quite keen on keeping him. Milan want to go all the way and will offer a fee of €10 million to land the ex-Arsenal player. Ten Hag's side are interested in Malick Thiaw and while those are two different deals, that move could influence Milan's move for Xhaka, only if the Rossoneri seriously consider the German's sale. Xhaka, who helped Leverkusen win a maiden Bundesliga title in 2024, is reportedly not adverse to a Milan move. Hed has left his future in Leverkusen open after the departure of coach Xabi Alonso to Madrid, defender Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich, full back Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool, and playmaker Florian Wirtz also close to a Liverpool move. He said playing a key role in a new-look Leverkusen team would "cost a lot of energy. I am no longer 25 but turn 33 in September."
