Simone Ashley's character in the upcoming sports drama F1 was expected to be her big breakthrough role. In an unexpected development, it has now emerged that her entire role has been edited out of the film. Joseph Kosinski, the director of the Brad Pitt starrer, revealed that her role did not make it to the final cut. During the same chat, he also expressed his wish to work with the actress again. In an interview with People, Joseph Kosinski said, 'It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use. There were two or three storylines that ultimately didn't make it into the final cut." Further, the filmmaker lauded Simone, calling her 'an incredible talent, incredible actress, incredible singer." Moving ahead, he also expressed his wish to collaborate with Simone again as he added, 'I would love to work with her again." Simone Ashley's popularity skyrocketed after her role in Netflix shows Sex Education and Bridgerton. In the sports drama F1, she was cast in an important supporting role and the announcement of her being a part of the film was made last year. However, the first teaser and trailer of the film had no glimpses of Simone and fans were quick to notice her absence. In July 2024, Variety confirmed Simone Ashley's involvement in Joseph Kosinski's F1. The actress was spotted shooting at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit in Northampton, England and the details about her role in the film were under wraps. Earlier this year, in May, Simone Ashley spoke to Elle about her experience of working in the most anticipated film. She said, 'I have a very small part, but I'm grateful to be in that movie. I got to experience many Grand Prix. I don't think I'll ever do anything like that again." While it seems Simone Ashley will not be seen in FI, the actress is yet to comment on the development. Set against the thrilling backdrop of Formula One, the high-octane drama will be released in theatres on June 27.

Washington : 'Bridgerton' fame actress Simone Ashley has been cast in the high-octane racing drama 'F1' alongside Brad Pitt and Damson. However, despite shooting some scenes in the movie, her role was cut in the final cut, reported People Magazine. When asked about the change to Ashley's part, director Joseph Kosinski tells People, "It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use. There were two or three storylines that ultimately didn't make it into the final cut." Kosinski, though, lauded the talent of the actress Simone and expressed his wish to work with her again. "But Simone, she's an incredible talent, incredible actress, incredible singer, and I would love to work with her again," Kosinski adds as quoted by People. Simone Ashley has not commented on her reduction of the role yet. Earlier this month, while speaking to ELLE as quoted by People, Ashley said making F1 was a "crazy" experience. "I have a very small part, but I'm grateful to be in that movie. I got to experience many Grand Prix. I don't think I'll ever do anything like that again," said Ashley as quoted by People. The 'Bridgerton' actress previously told Who What Wear magazine, as quoted by People, that the production on the film 'F1' had been "going for years" as she revealed how long her role was in the works. "I met for this movie, I think, before Bridgerton even came out. It's been a long time, and you know, it's Damson and Brad's movie. I'm just so grateful that I can be part of it. You had to work as a team. Sometimes we literally had one take for certain shots. Like, you'd see on the call sheet eight minutes to get this one thing because we were shooting alongside the races," said Simone Ashley as quoted by People. According to an official synopsis, Pitt will be playing the character of Hayes in F1. Hayes was Formula 1's "most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career." "Thirty years later, he's a nomadic racer-for-hire when he's approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling Formula 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to Formula for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world," the synopsis continues. "But as the engines roar, Sonny's past catches up with him and he finds that in Formula 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone," read the synopsis as reported People. The film also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles and Samson Kayo, while Lewis Hamilton is one of the producers. 'F1' is in theatres on June 27.

From the filmmakers of Top Gun: Maverick and directed by Joseph Kosinski, it is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski, famed Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner and Chad Oman. It stars Pitt as a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his teammate at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid. During promotion, the film's soundtrack, composed by Hans Zimmer, attracted generous hype with talents such as Don Toliver, Doja Cat, Rose, Myke Towers and Tate McRae releasing singles part of F1 the Album. The feature was shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport and also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem. It arrives in cinemas on June 26.

Choi earned his place in the showdown following convincing wins over China's Xu Jie in the semi-final, as well as fellow SAR teammate Lawrence Ng in the last eight. The win is another confidence boost for 27-year-old Choi, who last month struck gold in the FIE Grand Prix Foil in Shanghai – his first international title. Reigning Olympic champion, Edgar Cheung, meanwhile, missed out on the chance to reclaim his regional crown – as he secured bronze in a tightly-contested semi-final.

Weekend traffic June 20-23, 2025: Highway 19 closed in Laval
With Grand Prix weekend behind us, work resumes on highways around Montreal, and the Réseau express métropolitain returns to being closed on weekends. Here are trouble spots to watch out for: Highway 19 The highway, including the Papineau-Leblanc Bridge connecting Montreal and Laval, will be completely closed in both directions from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday — northbound between Henri-Bourassa Blvd. and de la Concorde Blvd., and southbound from Highway 440 to Henri-Bourassa Blvd. Access to St-Martin Blvd. will be maintained via the service road. From Monday until the end of 2026, two lanes will be open on the bridge in each direction, with partial or complete closures on some nights. Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge Highway 40 between Montreal Island and Vaudreuil-Dorion will have only one lane open westbound from 7 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. Mercier Bridge The upstream span of the bridge will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday, requiring traffic to share the other span, with one lane in each direction. The entrance from Airlie St. and the reserved bus lane will be closed during this time. In case of bad weather, the work will take place from 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday. La Fontaine Tunnel The tunnel will be closed in both directions from 11 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday, from Souligny Ave. to Île Charron, for work on electrical and communication systems in the tunnel. Souligny Ave. over the highway will also be closed during this time. Highway 30 In Les Cèdres, one lane will be open westbound Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mont-Tremblant The Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant run will mean closing part of Route 117 near the city on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic will share one side of the highway between Mont-Tremblant and Labelle. Parts of Montée Ryan and Duplessis Rd. will also be closed that day. Montreal streets Côte-de-Liesse Rd.: Two of three lanes will be closed eastbound before Rockland Rd., from Tuesday until November. Ramps to Acadie Blvd. south from Highway 15 and Côte-de-Liesse Rd. will be closed. René-Lévesque Blvd.: Downtown, two of four lanes will be closed westbound between Wolfe and Atateken Sts. from 7 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday. Jean-Milot St.: In LaSalle, the street will be completely closed between Lafleur Ave. and Newman Blvd. from Monday to July 11. Continuing disruptions REM: The Réseau express métropolitain remains closed on weekends and ends service at 8:20 p.m. weekdays until July 4, when it closes completely for six weeks. Replacement shuttle buses will run between the stations when the REM is not operating, except from 1:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. Highway 10: A westbound lane on the Bonaventure Expressway is closed between the Victoria Bridge and Wellington St. until December. On the Clément Bridge connecting Montreal with Nuns' Island, traffic runs contraflow with one lane in each direction until December. Highway 20/Route 132: In St-Lambert, repaving work on a section of the eastbound highway between the Champlain Bridge and Notre-Dame Ave. requires it to close from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. until the end of July. Highway 40: The Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge between Vaudreuil-Dorion and Montreal Island is down to two lanes in each direction. Ste-Catherine St.: The street is closed to traffic between Stanley St. and McGill College Ave. for work on major renovations through summer. Jean-Talon St.: Work on building the Blue Line métro extension will force parts of Jean-Talon St. to be closed. Affected buses (in particular 141 and 372) are detoured onto Bélanger and Everett Sts. to avoid those areas. St-Jacques St.: Work on underground infrastructure has closed the street between St-Philippe St. and Ste-Marguerite St. until June 30. Pie-IX Blvd.: Work to extend the SRB Pie-IX south means only one lane is open in each direction between Pierre-de-Coubertin Ave. and Notre-Dame St. Ste-Catherine St. and Hochelaga St. remain open through Pie-IX, but other cross streets are closed west of Pie-IX. St-Urbain St.: The overpass over the Ville-Marie Expressway is closed for a long renovation until the end of 2026. Pedestrian access is maintained. Pedestrianized streets this summer Mont-Royal Ave. between St-Laurent Blvd. and St-Denis St. until Oct. 16 and between St-Denis St. and De Lorimier Ave. until Sept. 4. Duluth Ave. E. between St-Laurent Blvd. and St-Hubert St. until Oct. 16. Wellington St. between 6th Ave. and Regina St. until Sept. 19. Ste-Catherine St. E. between St-Hubert St. and Papineau Ave. and a short stretch of St-Christophe St. between Ste-Catherine St. E. and 1278 St-Christophe St., until Oct. 14. St-Denis St. between Sherbrooke and Ste-Catherine Sts., and Émery St. between Sanguinet and St-Denis Sts., until Sept. 15. Ontario St. E. between Pie-IX Blvd. and Darling St. until Sept. 12. Bernard Ave. W. between Wiseman and Bloomfield Sts. until Sept. 21. De Castelnau St. E. between St-Denis St. and de Gaspé Ave. until Nov. 7.
