IIT graduate, 14 others, arrested for possession of child pornography in Telangana
Telangana's Cyber Security Bureau has arrested 15 people, including an IIT graduate, in a coordinated crackdown targeting online child sexual abuse material (CSAM). According to a Hindustan Times report, most suspects are well-educated men in their 20s, hailing from middle-class families. Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau director Shikha Goel said the operation focused on repeat offenders involved in uploading, storing, and disseminating nude and sexually explicit content involving minors aged 6 to 14. Notably, at least one suspect holds an IIT degree and works at a reputed tech firm, while another is an engineering graduate currently job-seeking. 'Most of the content originates from foreign victims, predominantly girls aged between 6 and 14, with 90% of material involving female children,' Goel told the Telangana Today. All arrested individuals have since been remanded by a court. Shikha Goel told NDTV that the accused appeared to be part of a single group sharing sexual material targeting minors. "All of them appeared to be part of closed user groups sharing such material. Whether they are part of any organised gang or cartel is still under investigation,' she said. Goel also revealed that the suspects likely operated through closed user groups, distributing illicit content as part of a collective network. Investigators are still determining whether these groups are part of larger organised gangs or criminal cartels. The operation unfolded during a one-day, state-wide sweep informed by 57 cyber tip-line complaints. Law enforcement teams across Hyderabad, Yadagirigutta, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Jagtial executed the coordinated arrests. Following the operation, 34 FIRs were registered under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and the POCSO Act. According to media reports, the accused are under judicial custody.

IIT graduate among 15 arrested in Telangana for circulating online child sexual content
The Telangana Police on Wednesday arrested 15 individuals, including an IIT graduate, during a statewide crackdown against the circulation of online child sexual exploitative and abuse material (CSEAM). The operation targeted repeat offenders involved in uploading, storing, and circulating nudes and sexually exploitative videos of minors, mostly appearing to be foreign, in the age group of 6 to 14 years, with 90 per cent of content pertaining to girls, said Shikha Goel, director, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau on Thursday. The accused are mostly educated and belong to working and middle-class groups, with the IIT graduate working in a reputed company, Goel said. They are in the age group of 19 and 50 years and have been arrested from Hyderabad, Yadagirigutta, Karimnagar, Warangal, Jagitial, and Jagadgirigutta. They have been booked under Section 67B of the IT Act and Section 15 of the Pocso Act. 'The accused are usually part of certain closed social media groups where such content is available for sale and purchase. Browsing content on sites is restricted. But they go on the dark web, where such content is freely accessible. We have so far blocked 220 websites. I want to stress that even browsing such content online is an offence and action will be taken,' she added. The arrested have been remanded in judicial custody, and an investigation is on to identify the victims, trace the origin of the content, establish the exact role of the accused, and dismantle their criminal networks, Goel added. The child protection unit of Telangana Police works as the nodal agency for CSEAM-related complaints. It was established within the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau in February 2025 and proactively monitors and acts upon the digital circulation of CSEAM material. Since its formation, in the last four months, the CPU has registered 294 First Information Reports (FIRs) and apprehended 110 accused, as compared to 37 FIRs and 34 arrests during the previous two years. 'Browsing exploitative content involving children is an offence and anyone involved in circulating the same is on our radar. We will definitely track them down and take action. As part of our one-day operation, we focused on repeat offenders,' Goel stated. Croatia endorsed India's approach, expressed solidarity on Pahalgam attack, says Indian Envoy
Zagreb [Croatia], June 18 (ANI): India's Ambassador to Croatia, Arun Goel, has said that Croatians expressed shock when the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack happened and expressed solidarity towards India. Noting that India offers multiple options to Croatia, he said that the visit by PM Modi would further strengthen the ties between the two nations. In an interview with ANI, Ambassador Goel said, 'Croatia itself experienced terrorism, fundamentalism and extremism. When the Pahaglam episode happened, we were shocked. I got messages from several Croatians on my phone. They expressed solidarity with us. India's measured and restrained response through Operation Sindoor was appreciated by all Croatians. If you talk to anybody on the street, you will find Croatians endorsing India's approach. They are solidly with India. They are a reliable support'. He said that this is the kind of support needed globally to counter terrorism. Speaking about the Indo-Pacific and how India is a great partner for Croatia across several fronts, the Ambassador said, 'In the Indo-Pacific, there are various other areas when we look at the whole region in terms of its prosperity. Currently, it's a scenario of a single choice. Single choice leads to fewer options and dependability. India is going to offer various options in different domains'. He listed the areas such as space-based applications, telecom, digital interfaces and infrastructure, and healthcare centres. Noting that in the current unstable times, Croatia is looking for new partners, India offers great incentives. 'The people of Croatia have long long-lasting relationship with the people of India in terms of experiencing, enjoying and loving Indian culture, Indian ethos, and Indian spiritualism. Whichever Croatian companies are working in India, they have had positive experience, and they are looking for expansion and vice versa. The Indian companies working in Croatia are also finding it positive. Indian migrant workers here are finding it positive. So I feel that whether on a person-to-person basis or organisation to organisation, there is a connectivity, and now this is going to take a big boost with the visit of the Prime Minister. In that context, India offers multiple choices beyond a single choice. That's how I look at the Indo-Pacific angle.' Speaking about the trade ties between the two countries, Ambassador Goel said, 'If we look at the current trade numbers between India and Croatia, although it growing year to year, as of today, the Croatian exports are 27 billion dollars and they are exporting to India just 70 million dollars which is 0.26%. Croatia is importing goods and services worth 47 billion dollars, and they are importing from India just 380 million dollars, which is 0.67%. The scope of growth in trade in both directions between India and Croatia is immense. Currently, India is the 4th largest economy in the world and will very soon be the third. That can be possible only if our exports increase manifold, in that the EU is crucial to us.' He noted that as the India-EU FTA is already under negotiations, and with Croatia as a member of the EU, Schengen Zone, 'this visit will help us find a partner through whom we'll be able to find a balanced and more favourable FTA with the EU'. At the invitation of the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, PM Modi will be making an official visit to Croatia on June 18. This will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia, marking an important milestone in the bilateral relationship. (ANI)
