Four-Play, Quadzilla: Gilbert Gardiner's best bets for Saturday

Victorian form analyst Gilbert Gardiner presents his best bets and quaddie selections for Flemington on Saturday. Victorian form analyst Gilbert Gardiner presents his best bets and quaddie selections for Flemington on Saturday. • â– â– â– â– â– $50 win SHOCKLETZ (3) at $3 Powered home to win a similar race last start at Flemington with a big gap to third and the remainder of the field. First three past the post, including game runner-up PROCHESTER (7) and NEARCO FROD (2) square off again on Saturday. Prochester almost pinched the race last start, unlikely to be afforded such a leg rope again. Shockletz has a significant weight rise – 4kg more than last start – to contend with but not beyond the three-year-old sister of Horrifying. The Ciaron Maher-trained Shocking filly looks the one to beat again. "Shockletz SURGING on the outside & got up!" 🗣ï¸ Shockletz thunders down the middle of the track to claim Prochester in the final bound! âš¡ï¸ @HTCoffey @cmaherracing — (@Racing) June 7, 2025 $25 each way GREAT MAXIMUS (8) at $7/$2.50 South Australian raider dropped into Flemington around this time last year and challenged for the win, placed third beaten less than a length. Back again and in better form than last year, coming off consecutive wins in SA. The Magnus gelding, a six-time winner from 13 starts, has the tactical speed to cross from barrier eight and settle within striking distance. Favourite CAFE MILLENIUM (2) an eye-catcher from the back last start at Caulfield but the former Sydney galloper has one win – on debut – from 18 starts. Happy to risk in quite an even race. Great Maximus charges home for a stirring late finish to snag his second win in a row right on the line ðŸ'° @RJollyRacing — (@Racing) June 7, 2025 $25 each-way SAMUEL LANGHORNE (12) at $8/$2.70 Not quite a good thing licked last start but certainly not afforded the opportunity to contend after being held up behind a wall of horses. Switched off heels eventually and made a run inside the last 200m to get within two lengths of winner MUKTAMIL (10), a $9 chance on Saturday. Third-up and ready to win with even luck. Wary of progressive DIWALI (7), gone from Benchmark 58 to Listed Sandown Cup winner the past four starts. Samuel Langhorne keeps the favourite backers happy in the first at Mornington ðŸ¤ @MCKentRacing — (@Racing) April 9, 2023 $25 each way HOLYMANZ (5) at $8.50/$2.80 Building to another win? Strong first-up effort at Flemington four starts back then caught too far back in two subsequent appearances in stronger grade. Dropped back to Open company last start, runner-up in the Swan Hill Cup behind the in-form DASHING ($23). Favourite JIMMY THE BEAR (3) should be fighting out the finish again. Jimmy The Bear placed second behind subsequent Stradbroke Handicap winner War Machine first-up and then won at Caulfield. Settled too far back from a wide barrier last start at Flemington but worked home to run second, albeit in vain, behind the runaway winner Oh Too Good. Holymanz remains the sole winner of the Coastal Classic, victorious in the races' first two runnings ðŸ'« @cmaherracing @OsborneSaffie — (@Racing) January 4, 2025 â– â– â– â– â– QUADZILLA LEG 1, RACE 6 SAMUEL LANGHORNE (12) held up at a crucial stage last start and finished off well to run fourth. Should be ready to show something third-up on Saturday with even luck. DIWALI (7) won the Listed Sandown Cup (2800m) with authority last start. Back in distance and bridging run towards the Flemington Cup next month. Include but query. THROUGH IRISH EYES (13) and BOLD SOUL (5) next best. 1ST LEG 5, 7, 12, 13 LEG 2, RACE 7 SPLASH BACK (6) won impressively last start at Caulfield – blew them away from back in the field – and would not need to improve much to repeat the dose. The talented mare has won five of 11 starts and placed twice. Should build on the winning record on Saturday. AVEBURY (5) has been game in defeat the past two starts with big weights. Up in grade but down in weight and respect the booking of champion jockey Craig Williams. MOLLYNICKERS (3) has the right form to figure in the finish again. 2ND LEG 3, 5, 6 LEG 3, RACE 8 JIMMY THE BEAR (3) is a worthy favourite and looks hardest to beat. Drawn a gate on Saturday so should get a lovely run in transit. HOLYMANZ (5) has four runs under the belt, last start runner-up in the Swan Hill Cup, and ready to peak. Include ST LAWRENCE (8). 3RD LEG 3, 5, 8, 11 FIELDELO (9) rocketed to a seven-length Benchmark 58 Fillies and Mares win at Bendigo first-up and despite a sharp rise in grade on Saturday must be respected. SALSA FELLOW (2) has won two on the trot and overcame adversity last start, held up at a crucial stage, to get the result. BOLD BASTILLE (1) could take catching and has won and placed down the straight previously. SUN SETTING (14) not without a chance at odds. FOURTH LEG 1, 2, 9, 14 FLEMINGTON QUADDIE Race 6: 5, 7, 12, 13 Race 7: 3, 5, 6 Race 8: 3, 5, 8, 11 Race 9: 1, 2, 9, 14 COST $100 FOR 52 per cent

Gilbert Gardiner's Blackbook: Horses to follow from Sandown

Form analyst Gilbert Gardiner wraps up Saturday's meeting at Sandown-Hillside, revealing his horses to follow and forgive from horses to follow and forgive from the nine-race card. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. First start since the Big Dance in Sydney on Melbourne Cup Day last year and worked through gears nicely late after being forced to settle last from the wide barrier. Not as sharp at 1400m as the Sandown opposition but should bridge the gap second-up at 1600m. MANOLO BLING (1.1-length 3rd of 14, race 8): Matched motors with the seasoned sprinter KATSU (2nd) and refused to shirk the contest late albeit forced to settle for third place as stablemate CHINQUI box-seated and swept past the leaders late. Manolo Bling should be hard to beat third-up next start. TALBRAGAR (2.8-length 7th of 14, race 8): Raced closer to the rail in the straight and probably not the best ground late on the card. Urged along at the 400m and up for the fight to run seventh, beaten less than three lengths. Only second-up last Saturday and scope to improve, especially on genuine rain-affected ground. EAGLE EXPRESS (1.1-length 3rd of 11, race 2): Unlikely to get $41 again but should be hard to beat next start, preferably up slightly in distance. Enjoyed an economical ride, well back on the rail and jockey Teo Nugent saved ground around the bend, and finished off accordingly. Liked her last 75m. MILFORD (3.2-length 7th of 13, race 7): Long way off a strong pace and restrained off heels around the home bend. Picked up again, largely under own steam in restricted room, and yet recorded the third fastest last 200m in the 1800m Open Handicap. Could third-up 2000m at Caulfield or Flemington be a successful formula? ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ FORGIVE AHHA AHHA (3.3-length 7th of 10, race 3): End of preparation. Travelled well in the run but failed to quicken. Assistant trainer Ali McDonald said Ahha Ahha would be spelled. Ahha Ahha has raced consistently previously, won two of her past four before last Saturday, and should benefit from a break. SAYEDATY SADATY (2.5-length 3rd of 13, race 7): Not sure suited by the solid tempo he chased through the early and middle stages but endurance clicked into gear and stuck to the task late, as the other runners on speed faded out of contention. OCEANSPRINT (6.9-length 10th of 11, race 1): Stride slow out and settled in an awkward rearward position. Tried to work into clear air around the bend and at the top of the straight but could only slide off heels and denied any true momentum. Previously unbeaten in three trials and 1000m Ballarat debut. Something under the bonnet. FORGOT YOU (14.5-length 12th of 13, race 7): Inconclusive. The six-year-old has raced solidly in two starts back from a break and poised to run a cheeky race last Saturday but clobbered around the home bend, jammed up between LAVISH THINKER (11th) and TEMPESTI (13th) as the latter rolled out on the turn. SUANCES (5.6-length 9th of 15, race 5): Got all the right brakes the start prior when victorious at Sandown but none last Saturday. Tightened for room at the start and then held up from the 500m to 300m. A post-race examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. • Littlefield eyes Royal Ascot-Glorious Goodwood dream Gilbert Gardiner Sports reporter Gilbert Gardiner is a sports reporter for the Herald Sun and Sunday Herald Sun. @gilbertgardiner Gilbert Gardiner

Four-Play, Quadzilla: Gilbert Gardiner's Sandown-Hillside tips for Saturday

Form analyst Gilbert Gardiner presents his best bets plus quaddie selections for the nine-race card at Sandown-Hillside on Saturday. Form analyst Gilbert Gardiner presents his Four-Play and Quadzilla for Sandown-Hillside on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– SANDOWN-HILLSIDE FOUR-PLAY $25 each-way HELLO ROMEO (2) win at $7.50/2.40 Showed good ability in first racing preparation, only narrowly beaten in a 1000m race on debut and won second-up at Bendigo. Lindsay Park thought enough of the then Hello Youzmain colt to travel to New Zealand for the Karaka Millions 2YO and far from disgraced, beaten 3.3 lengths. Gelded since and jumped out nicely, third in one heat and won the other. Drawn out but more than capable of giving this a shake. Hello Romeo is too good for them to record his first win in the opener at Bendigo! ðŸ'¥ @lindsayparkrace — (@Racing) November 13, 2024 $50 win AHHA AHHA (8) at $2.70 Smart and speedy filly Ahha Ahha won with authority track and distance last start and could easily go on with the job here. Drawn to stalk the speed and with no weight on her back – up in grade – should be hard to run down. Ahha Ahha has won two of nine starts to date and placed on four occasions. The Clinton McDonald-trained filly has an opportunity to build on that record should track conditions suit – does not want the surface too wet. Withdrawn from a similar race last Saturday with rain about. Ahha Ahha utilises a beautiful trip, pouncing at the top of the straight & sprinting away for a comfortable win ðŸ'° @cmcdonaldracing @jamieleekah07 — (@Racing) May 24, 2025 $25 each-way PARIAH PEARL (1) at $15/$4.60 Consistent mare has won two of her past four starts and placed second three back behind the in-form Hughes. Last start led a slightly stronger race at Caulfield and faded in the straight. Back in grade a touch and won at Sandown previously. Drawn to be prominent and EXTREME VIRTUE (2), drawn wide, looks to be the only other speed influence. Pariah Pearl could be hard to hold out should the four-year-old mare be afforded an economical run in transit. Apprentice jockey Tom Prebble has won three of six starts on the mare and been runner-up once. Pariah Pearl continues her strong run of form with victory on Anzac Day ðŸ'° @busuttin — (@Racing) April 25, 2025 $25 each-way MILFORD (6) at $13/$3.90 More than capable on his day and has a dynamite turn of hoof in the right conditions. Third up on Saturday and solid form and improvement the past two 1400m and 1600m events at Caulfield. Up to 1800m now, a winning distance previously, and blinkers reapplied. Just about any horse in the race could this so happy to play at the odds. Include TEMPESTI (3) and lightly-weighted PUDDING (12) in exotics. Milford knocks a few out of the quaddie & salutes at $41! 😳 Did you back him? @decbates @ballymorestabls — (@Racing) May 18, 2024 â– â– â– â– â– SANDOWN-HILLSIDE QUADZILLA LEG 1, RACE 6 ROADCONE (5) was expertly handled last start by apprentice jockey Luke Cartwright to lead and dominate the race with no weight. Drops in grade here but extra 5.5kg could weigh them down a fraction. NATION'S CALL (7) has won third-up twice previously and should be ready to figure in the finish. HIYAAM PROUD (6) second-up after being tried in Sydney last month but struck a heavy track. Should appreciate the Soft (2-2) surface on Saturday. 1ST LEG 5, 6, 7 LEG 2, RACE 7 SABAN (8) could rinse and repeat last start, track and distance winner in similar company. Drawn wide but gets back in the run usually solid enough speed in the race to put the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained gelding back in the frame. SAYEDATY SADATY (10) stuck on last start behind Saban. Is he looking for 2000m now? MILFORD (6) a knockout chance but more than capable on his day. Include PUDDING (12) down in weight. 2ND LEG 6, 8, 10, 12 LEG 3, RACE 8 MANOLO BLING (13) has the speed and upside to offset the wide barrier. Nicely weighted – 53kg with apprentice jockey Tom Prebble claiming two kilograms – and won with authority first-up at Bendigo. Placed fourth last start in Listed grade in Adelaide. Market has the race pretty well figured out with HARRY GOT STYLES (6) and CHINQUI (12) the main threats. Include KATSU (1), first start for Lindsay Park and best form would be good enough. 3RD LEG 1, 6, 12, 13 LEG 4, RACE 9 THE OPEN (15) has been around the mark the past three starts and should be in the picture again. Too far back last start and worked to the line to run third but never a serious threat. Hard fit and suited by conditions. HUGHES (12) has been a model of consistency, won three of the past four starts. RUN HARRY RUN (7) worked into contention first-up but peaked on the run. The four-year-old gelding has won second-up and winkers applied. Include LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO (1) and CAFE MILLENIUM (10). 4TH LEG 1, 7, 10, 12, 15
