Gaza Faces Imminent Crisis in Medical Laboratory, Blood Bank Services
DayofPal– The Ministry of Health in Gaza has issued a grave warning about an impending collapse in medical laboratory and blood bank services across the Gaza Strip. Dr. Sahar Ghanem, Director of the Laboratory Department at the Ministry, said nearly half of the medical testing materials and lab consumables have stock levels that will not last more than a month. Specifically, 48.7% of diagnostic reagents and 48.2% of laboratory consumables are running dangerously low. 'This sharp deterioration directly threatens the continuity of diagnostic and blood transfusion services,' Dr. Ghanem said. 'It comes at a time when the health sector is already overwhelmed by soaring numbers of injuries and an escalating humanitarian crisis.' The crisis is further compounded by the targeted destruction of laboratory equipment by Israeli forces during ongoing military operations. According to Dr. Ghanem, approximately 50% of hospital laboratories and 60% of primary care laboratories have been destroyed. In total, 514 laboratory devices are currently out of service. Before the war started on October 7, 2023, 12 laboratories operated in hospitals across Gaza under the Ministry of Health. Six of these labs were completely destroyed, while two others, located in the European Gaza Hospital and Al-Durra Hospital, were forced to shut down due to evacuations. Only four labs remain operational, scattered between the northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip. Dr. Ghanem accused the Israeli army of systematically targeting laboratory facilities to cripple the health sector and prevent timely diagnosis and treatment of patients and the wounded. In response to the crisis, the Gaza Ministry of Health is urgently calling on international and humanitarian organizations to intervene. They stress the need for immediate support to sustain the minimum level of medical services necessary to care for the wounded and sick in the besieged enclave. 'Now, not tomorrow': Gaza hospitals plead for immediate blood units
DaysofPal- A severe lack of blood supplies and the increasing number of casualties are causing the Gaza Strip's healthcare system to collapse as a result of Israel's unrelenting attack. Medical professionals across Gaza have issued urgent appeals for the immediate entry of blood units and essential medical equipment, warning that patients are dying daily for lack of basic transfusion support. At the heart of the crisis is al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the largest and most severely impacted medical facility in the enclave. Its director, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, described the situation as catastrophic. 'We are completely unable to provide blood units for the wounded and sick,' said Abu Salmiya. 'Young men and women come to us to donate blood, only to discover that they need blood transfusions due to severe malnutrition.' He stressed the devastating toll this shortage is taking: 'We are losing a large number of wounded people every day due to the lack of blood units, amid a continuous and massive influx of casualties every minute.' 'We are asking nothing from the world except for the immediate entry of blood units into the Gaza Strip … now, not tomorrow.' The situation is no better across other hospitals in the Strip. Sahar Ghanem, director of the Medical Laboratories and Blood Banks Department, reinforced the desperate need for both blood and the equipment necessary to test, store, and transport it. 'We are facing a shortage of blood bank supplies in all hospitals in the Gaza Strip,' Ghanem said. 'Malnutrition has had a significant impact on the number of blood donors, yet people continue to donate whatever they can.' However, the limited pool of donors, many of whom are themselves anemic, has forced hospitals to break international health protocols. 'We're collecting blood even from donors who don't meet the necessary criteria,' she revealed. 'That includes donors who are anemic, which is medically prohibited, but we have no other choice.' She noted that supplies are rapidly consumed across major facilities such as Nasser Medical Complex, Al-Shifa Hospital, and other hospitals still functioning under extreme conditions. Ghanem called for the urgent import of blood units, blood bags, and testing and storage equipment, adding that the health of the population must also be improved through aid and nutrition so that more people can safely donate blood. Abu Salmiya reiterated this call during an interview with Al Jazeera, highlighting that many lives were lost not from the severity of wounds but simply due to the inability to provide transfusions. As the health system in Gaza teeters on the brink of total collapse, the Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that among the many people in urgent need of blood were those injured in the recent Israeli massacre in Rafah. At Nasser Hospital, officials issued a call for citizens to donate blood around the clock, stating that the scale of the ongoing Israeli bombardment had caused the facility to nearly run out of blood supplies altogether. He stated that the wars in the region, in which Lebanese people were used as 'cannon fodder,' are coming to an end, and questioned who would compensate Lebanon for the years wasted by the 'Resistance Axis,' especially if Iran reaches an agreement with the United States. Ghanem asked whether Lebanon would once again be left behind, or if it might finally have the opportunity to 'join the train of peace and prosperity.' He called on Lebanese decision-makers to acknowledge that the war with Israel has brought no benefit to the Lebanese people.

Cairo Temperatures to Exceed 40°C as Heatwave Peaks Monday
H-Tayea Egypt's Meteorological Authority has warned that Monday will mark the peak of the current heatwave, with temperatures in Greater Cairo expected to exceed 40°C in the shade, and soar to 43–44°C in Upper Egypt, according to Dr. Manar Ghanem, spokesperson for the authority. Speaking during a televised interview on Al-Hayat TV, Dr. Ghanem explained that such extreme temperatures are typical for late May and early June, which are historically among the hottest periods of the year in Egypt. However, a noticeable drop in temperatures is expected starting Monday night into Tuesday, with highs in Cairo falling by 7 to 9 degrees, stabilizing between 31–33°C through the end of the week. Donia Samir Ghanem and Mohamed Mamdouh's Film "Rocky El Ghalaba" Sets Release Date
Yara Sameh We're just a few months away from a new film from Egyptian stars Donia Samir Ghanem and Mohamed Mamdouh. Ghanem and Mamdouh's latest feature film 'Rocky El Ghalaba' has been set for a theatrical release on July 30. Mohamed Tharwat, Mohamed Radwan, and Bayoumi Fouad are also on board to star. It is scripted by Karim Youssef, directed by Ahmed El Gendy, and produced by Mohamed Ahmed El Sobky. "Rocky El Ghalaba" marks the second collaboration between Ghanem and Mamdouh after 2022's film " Taslim Ahali ", which also witnessed Ghanem making her last onscreen appearance. The actress was born on January 1, 1985 into a legendary showbiz family – she is the daughter of renowned actor Samir Ghanem and actress Dalal Abdulaziz; her sister, Amal— known as Amy— is also an actress. Ghanem's talents appeared when she was a child, participating in school plays and shows. The actress made her acting debut in 2001's TV series 'Leladala Wogouh Katheera' (Justice has many faces). In 2005, Ghanem made her first film appearance in renowned comedy actor Mohamed Henedi's film 'Ya Ana Ya Khalty'. She released her first song 'Farh el Sen' in 2010. In 2015, she was a judge on season 4 of 'The X Factor' Arabia version along with Lebanese singers Elissa and Ragheb Alama. Ghanem is best known for her work on the television shows 'Leladala Wogouh Katheera', 'El Kabeer Awy', 'Lahfa', 'Nelly and Sherihan', 'In Lala Land', 'Badal el hadouta 3', and "Aicha Aldor".
