Glasgow youth project to take over running of community centre
Toryglen Community Youth Project (TCYP) will begin managing the Geoff Shaw Community Centre from June 20 under Glasgow City Council's People Make Glasgow Communities (PMGC) programme.
The 25-year lease for the centre was granted to the TYCP by the council in November 2024, which will allow the project to expand its services and increase its reach in the community.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for development and land use at Glasgow City Council, said: "This is great news for Toryglen and the wider area as this local charity will attract not only the youth of the area but the broader community to the Geoff Shaw Community Centre.
"The Toryglen Youth Community Project have fully demonstrated their commitment to the people of the area, and – through the People Make Glasgow Communities programme – we are yet again seeing more invaluable community services delivered at a local facility in the city."
PMGC enables community organisations to take on the management of local venues to deliver services and projects.
Previous successful operations include Park Villa Football Development at Glasgow Club Drumoyne, Pollok United Nethercraigs, and Castlemilk Community Football Trust at Barlia Sports Complex.
The Geoff Shaw Community Centre, located at 25 Kerrylamont Avenue, was a well-attended facility before its closure during the 2020 lockdown.
Since then, it has only reopened part-time, with no immediate plans from Glasgow Life to resume full-time operations.
The TCYP was established to meet the growing needs of the community, following work by the Southside Boxing Academy Community Hub.
The project provides youth clubs, holiday programmes, sports, and family events, while also promoting education, life skills, and community wellbeing.
The group's application for the lease was assessed by the People Make Glasgow Communities and Community Asset working groups, following strong community engagement and consultation in Toryglen.
