Launching vaccination campaign against small ruminant diseases & sheep pox in Ibb

Ibb - Saba: Governor Abdulwahab Salah of Ibb inaugurated on Saturday a veterinary vaccination campaign targeting small ruminants and sheep pox, along with efforts to combat internal and external parasites and treat livestock diseases. The campaign, implemented by the Agriculture Sector in cooperation with the General Administration of Animal Health and Veterinary Quarantine, aims to vaccinate and treat 1,053,900 heads of small ruminants and livestock across 17 districts of the province. During the launch, Governor Salah emphasized the interest of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council in developing the livestock sector and protecting it from diseases and epidemics to achieve food security, self-sufficiency, and strengthen national economic resources. He highlighted the importance of such campaigns in safeguarding livestock from fatal diseases, preserving their health, and improving productivity, as they serve as a primary income source for most rural families. Governor Salah praised the high level of preparation and organization of the campaign, as well as the discipline of its technical teams in carrying out field visits to all targeted districts. He urged participants to reach all animals in villages and remote areas to eliminate diseases effectively. He also called on citizens and livestock breeders to cooperate with the field veterinary teams to ensure the campaign's success in achieving its goals. Meanwhile, Engineer Hammoud Al-Rassas, the head of the Agricultural Sector in the province, explained that the campaign aims to vaccinate 537,000 sheep and goats, combat parasites, and treat 516,900 heads of livestock suffering from diseases. The 20-day campaign will be carried out by 37 field teams, consisting of 156 participants, across the districts of Al-Sadda, Al-Sabra, Al-Radmah, Badan, Al-Makha'ir, Al-Nadirah, Al-Adain, Al-Hazm, Yarim, Dhi Al-Sufal, Jablah, Habish, Al-Sha'ar, Al-Sayani, and rural Ibb, under the supervision of local and central teams. Al-Rassas noted that the campaign includes vaccinating small ruminants against peste des petits ruminants (PPR), sheep pox, lumpy skin disease, and treating internal and external parasites and other diseases. He described the campaign as an extension of previous efforts in the province. Additionally, the campaign includes awareness activities for farmers and livestock breeders on disease prevention and control methods. Vaccines, medicines, and necessary supplies have already been distributed to the participating veterinary teams. Al-Rassas appreciated the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and the local authorities in enhancing the agricultural sector's ability to protect livestock and prevent losses caused by deadly diseases, which negatively impact farmers' incomes and the national economy.
