Google Search Live Is Your Gemini-Powered Assistant For AI Mode On Mobile: What It Offers

Last Updated: Google is bringing Gemini AI voice support to Search with AI mode for mobile users and it will give you the best of both worlds. Google is quickly expanding the reach of Gemini AI assistant to all corners and we mean it. Search has come under threat because of the new AI tools but the company feels that both can co-exist and help you deliver the results. Google Search Live is basically a mashup of Search and Gemini Live that works through the AI Mode on search for mobile users. Google is working out the schematics of the new feature with a limited user base for now but expect a full roll out in the coming months. We've already seen Gemini Live operate and talk to users by offering them a conversational experience. Search Live is doing that and giving you the usual search results on the screen. The new feature will work in AI mode for people in the US and you have to sign up for the Labs program that Google offers for its unreleased tools. Once you do that, you will see a Live icon in the Google app on Android and iOS as well. You can tap on this icon to start conversing with Search and the AI-generated model will respond to any of your queries. And just like Gemini Live, you can continue the conversation without using any wake word to trigger the AI assistant and have follow-up queries for Search AI. And yes, you can get a transcript of the chat you have with Search Live so that you can go back and check the history in case ever needed. Google is going to add camera-centric support so that you can show the visual to Search and let it respond based on what it can see.

Gemini Live is free for iPhone users — here's how to share your screen and camera

Gemini Live used to be restricted to Gemini Advanced users, but that's not the case any more. You can now use it for free on your iPhone and, what's more, the app also boasts camera and screen sharing capabilities. These features are no mere gimmicks. They're super-useful for getting information about what's either in front of the lens or on your iPhone screen, with the AI more than capable of answering all manner of questions about what it can see. It's a great, natural way to get answers about all manner of things such as the identify of a specific breed of animal or plant. It could help you to troubleshoot or spark creative possibilities. Let's see how it all works. Make sure you install the latest version of Google Gemini on your iPhone then tap the Live icon which you will find in the bottom-right corner of the Ask Gemini box. You will be told that Live requires your microphone to be turned on and that your interactions will be shared and saved. If you are happy to proceed, tap OK. You will then need to tap Allow when asked for access to your iPhone's mic. When you use Gemini Live for the first time, you'll be asked to choose a voice. Do so and you will be taken to the main Gemini Live interface where you can tap the pause button to put the mic on hold, or tap X to end the conversation. We're not going to do either of these things just yet, though. You may, at this point, want to try out Gemini Live by verbally uttering some questions. If there is something in your immediate environment that you'd like to discuss — let's say, for instance, there's a tree you'd like to identify, you need to tap the Camera icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Allow Gemini to access the camera and then it will show whatever can be seen by the rear-facing lens. To change the camera perspective to the front-facing one, press the icon in the bottom-corner of the image. Point the camera towards the object you'd like to discuss and then ask a question. Gemini will listen to what you have to say and then give you a verbal response. You can keep up the conversation if you wish or tap the Camera to turn it off again. The camera will also turn off if you put Live on hold, leave the Gemini mobile app or allow the screen to lock. If you've got something on your screen that you want to discuss, you can pop into Gemini Live and press the upward-facing arrow icon. This will allow your screen to be recorded and shared with Gemini. Just tap Start Broadcast. There are some obvious security implications –— literally everything on your screen is going to be shared so if you start moving from app to app while this feature is active, you could easily share personal information. Gemini advises you swipe down from the right of the screen to open the Control Center on your iPhone and tap Do Not Disturb. This will prevent unexpected notifications. When you are viewing the screen you would like to discuss with Gemini, just verbally ask a question. Gemini will give you an answer. The iPhone's Dynamic Island will show you Gemini controls so you can tap the Share button to switch off sharing. You can also go back to the Gemini app and tap the Share button there to deactivate it. A transcript of the conversation will then be shown. The screen will also stop being shared if you hold or lock the screen. It won't obviously stop if you leave the Gemini app, though, unless you close it. There you go! You now know how to share your screen and camera in Gemini Live on iPhone. While you're here, why not take a look at some other useful Gemini guides? Google Saerch Live feature: What is it, where is it available, plus full details

Google has launched a new voice-activated feature, Search Live, for its Google app on iOS and Android, giving users in the United States a more natural, conversational way to search the web. The rollout is part of the company's AI Mode initiative, currently being trialled in Google Labs. Search Live allows users to speak directly to Google Search, pose follow-up questions, and receive responses — all without needing to type. The feature is aimed at people searching while multitasking or on the move, offering a hands-free experience similar to Google's existing Gemini Live tool. By tapping the newly introduced Live icon in the app, users can initiate voice conversations with the search engine. The assistant responds with spoken answers and links to relevant webpages. Users can continue chatting with the AI even while switching between apps, making multitasking smoother. A Transcript feature enables mid-conversation switching between voice and text, while a searchable AI Mode history allows users to return to previous queries and resume where they left off. Both services offer overlapping functionalities, including camera-based input integration — a feature Google says is coming to Search Live in future updates, despite already being present in Gemini Live. Google has stated that Search Live runs on a customised version of its Gemini AI model, with enhanced voice interaction capabilities. However, the introduction of parallel apps with nearly identical tools has led to confusion among users and industry observers. The new feature is only available in the US at present, with no announcements yet regarding an international rollout.

Google Search Now Lets You Chat with AI Using Voice in New ‘Search Live' Mode

Google is ushering in a new era of voice-enabled search with its latest feature—Search Live in AI Mode—now rolling out on the Google app for Android and iOS. Previewed at the recent Google I/O conference, this experimental feature is currently available to users in the United States who have opted into the AI Mode through Google Labs. This innovative voice interaction capability is powered by a customized version of Google's Gemini AI model, tailored specifically for natural and dynamic conversations. The system draws on Google's robust search infrastructure to deliver real-time, high-quality responses that adapt seamlessly to users' spoken queries. One of the core technologies behind this feature is query fan-out, which broadens the scope of web content shown to users. This ensures that people receive not just a direct answer, but also a diverse range of sources to explore further. The new voice feature is designed with mobility and multitasking in mind. For example, users can simply tap the 'Live' icon in the Google app and ask something like, 'What are some tips for preventing a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?' The AI responds aloud, making it easier to get help while your hands are full—whether you're packing or cooking. Google highlights that users can continue the conversation naturally with follow-ups like, 'What should I do if it still wrinkles?' All while viewing relevant web links on screen that provide deeper context—without disrupting the flow of conversation. When activated, the interface shows a sparkle-badged waveform icon beneath the search bar—the same used for Gemini Live. Alternatively, users can access it via a new button next to the search field. The full-screen view supports both light and dark themes, featuring a gradient 'G' in the top-left corner and an arc-shaped waveform in AI Mode colors. Additional controls include a pill-shaped Mute/Unmute button, and a 'Transcript' toggle for switching to text-based interaction. Importantly, this feature supports background operation, allowing the voice session to continue even if the user locks their screen or opens another app. To end the session, users can tap the 'X' in the corner. The overflow menu provides access to Search history and Voice settings, including four distinct modes: Cassini, Cosmo, Neso, and Terra—each offering different interaction styles or personalities. As voice-based AI becomes more central to how we engage with technology, Google's latest feature is a major step toward making search more conversational, personalized, and hands-free.
